Default Tanker Garand

Sure everyone will say it didn't exist until after the war. But what they don't know is, your guy's amourer he invented it. He is even better than Bond's Q.
Perhaps even better if he improvised it from parts of weapons scavenged from the fallen. He could have the help of the village blacksmith's beautiful daughter.

How about a superbly accurate Winchester M1 Rifle the ranger has carried since ranger training, supplemented by a captured MG42 for town clearing. Bob!

That Ranger has been sleepin' with his M1 since basic training back in 42. He knows it inside and out and just plain deadly with it.

BTW, Where does one find or obtain all of these stories your are writing for our casual perusal?

The Thompson submachine gun would be another choice.

Well much as I love the M1 Garand Audie Murphy (who should know about such things) liked the M1 Carbine or Thompson for room clearing.

A Thompson M-1 or M-3 "Grease Gun" would also fit. Not only full-auto and shorter, they have ammo interchangeability with the universal GI sidearm, the Government Model firing the .45 ACP cartridge. Less gear to lug around on night raids.

It's not on your list, but how about an M1A1 Thompson. It would be pretty handy for in town house to house fighting.

What positon/rank does this Ranger have? A single Ranger would never be given a mission like that. He would be part of a Ranger company. The more rank he has the more he'll have the option of other weapons beside TOE issue. For a built up area in France, the M1 would be my choice as I would like to be able to carry enough rounds, have something with penetration to eat away at the buildings and still be portable enough. First got my French Parachutist Wings and Diver Badge in 88' working with the Legion there. I got multiple hip fractures jumping onto Ste. Mere-Eglise on the 59th Anniv of D-Day in 03'. Then had to spend a week in the hospital in Ste. Lo before going back to Germany.

My bud's father was an officer in the Rangers-WW2.He carried a Thompson....used it plenty. In the next war, he was a survivor of the frozen Chosin.
