I want a 10mm FPC!
I've always been a 10mm fan, and was so thrilled when Smith finally annouced their M&P in 10mm. But now I want more... When I saw the ads for the 9mm FPC I felt it was interesting, but had no desire to own one whatsoever. However, if it was offered in 10mm it would make an excellent little backpacking carbine! Rather than brand it as part of the M&P line though, I think it more appropriate that they bring back the "Outdoorsman" moniker. Thoughts?

It would have to be significantly heavier than the 9mm version since blowback firearms rely on weight to slow the bolt enough to keep the case in the barrel until pressure has subsided to a safe level. Most 10mm fans probably wouldn't mind a heavier gun if they could shoot their favorite caliber out of it though.
But most of the sales would probably be to 10mm guys that want a new range toy, not backpackers. While 10mm fans are vocal online I don't know if there are enough of them to convince S&W they should make a 10mm FPC. Especially since some people had issues with the 10mm M&P when it was loaded with super hot ammo like people use for bear defense.
I don't know any backpackers in the lower 48 that would consider carrying the weight of 10mm M&P on their belt while hiking and a 8 pound FPC with a couple of spare magazines in their pack. And they would want a pistol on their belt as well as a FPC in their pack since they could not get it out quickly enough to do any good. Maybe in Alaska or some other place with a lot of big bears people might carry a folding carbine in a pack but most backpackers are going to avoid carrying that much extra weight unless they absolutely have to. I could see someone taking a horse into the forest having a FPC.
More options is always good though. I hope they do make one for you and all the other 10mm fans.

Heavy or not, it sounds like a great idea! I packable 10mm carbine should sell very well. I'm not anywhere near "bear country", but I can see where a carbine sharing mags with an MP 10mm would attract a lot of attention.
I don't currently have a carbine to go with my 610.........

If I'm packing a carbine in bear country it's going to be more than a 10mm. More along the lines of my Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 or Remington 870P. A lot of people up here also pack AR's in large calibers like .450 Bushmaster and .500 SOCOM as their, "Bear Gun". Yes a 10mm carbine would be cool, it's not a bear gun.

I always thought if I ever got a pistol carbine I would want it in 10mm. I have spent hundreds of days backpacking and I wouldn't want to carry something that big and heavy. The vast vast majority of people I know that packs and most all I run into when they are backpacking do not carry any gun. I could see one for home defence or for plinking.

Well if you don't want to wish for a hope Check out TNW aero survival carbine
Hickok45 review and range time video below but this one is in 40sw . They do make a 10mm and cost is lower plus its can be broken down easily for transport on a smaller pack.
They can configure the 45 so 45 super is an option and they can configure 460 rowland version too and that cartridge makes any 10mm nut'n special . There's no grizzly bears in the Appalachian Mountains where I live so my 357mag revolver or m&p 4.25 or 5" 40sw filled underwood ammo will do just fine for crazed black bears or what ever else I might run into .
If you guy's find you need to carry a long gun out side hunting season you should try a Boonie Packers Safari Sling so you can carry at the ready across your chest hands free or under your strong side arm easy to control when walking thru brush . Unique sling design but only one I have used for close to 30 years even with a 10lb long range custom .

My son manages several gun stores here in Central Florida, and he says that the S&W 9mm FPC is extremely popular and they sell out as soon as they arrive in the stores. It might be the same if S&W introduced a .45 ACP and/or 10mm version. I really like 10mm, and especially my M&P 10mm 2.0, and a 10mm FCP might find its way into my collection!

To maintain light weight, a 10mm would need to employ a locked-breach design. Not really in the cards for a carbine in this price point.

I would prefer a 45ACP FPC. Hoping that it would take the 1911 mags but, I am sure that it would take the M&P mags. Might have to trade in my 40s for 45s.

Well, the folks at Hi-Point managed to create their 10mm (blowback, BTW) carbine (barrel length of 17.5"), and it is one of their biggest successes...
Cheers!
P.S. I would think 10x of Buffalo Bore's Heavy 10mm 220gr Outdoorsman (Hard Cast @ 1,200 fps & 703 ft/lbs) would be acceptable "bear medicine"...?

Hello, I know this is about fpc in 10mm. I have the 9mm and love it! Personal I would want one in 40s&w. I know it’s not known for bear hunting but it would be loads of fun. I have a mechtec 40sw in the Glock frame and a hoot to plink with ( it weighs a ton).

It wouldn't be nearly as heavy as everyone seems to think. The bolt would need to be a few ounces heavier. Ounces, not pounds. You might not even notice the weight difference. Some shooters may have an issue with charging the gun if the recoil spring were heavier. To me that's a bigger obstacle than the bolt weight. I will also say that I own a blowback 9mm carbine and the recoil is quite a bit stouter than I would have thought. I have a very light AR in 5.56 that I can shoot all day and not notice the recoil. But 100 rounds out of my blowback carbine and I have a sore shoulder and bruised cheek the next day.
Otherwise, I believe the 10mm FPC is feasible, but I doubt it will happen. 5.7x28 seems more likely.

To me…it only makes sense to buy an FPC in the same pistol caliber you carry, using the same magazines. Since I’m a 40S&W shooter it doesn’t appear I’ll be getting one any time soon. I doubt you .45ACP guys will either. You 10mm guys will be behind us.
