Ok guys I started this thread because I am new to the AR platform and lots of you have experience you might want to pass on. Here are a couple of starter questions from one or two other threads.

Can anyone tell us how to get the quad rail off so I can wipe down the barrel..Field stripping and cleaning is a breeze just not smart enough I guess to remove the quad LOL???

Here is another question for you guys that have a new AR15-22 how in the world are you cleaning that tiny feed ramp? I ran a bunch of ammo through mine the other day and I have yet to successfully clean the feed ramp. I guess as a bigger question I need some help with the whole cleaning process I cleaned and cleaned but things still felt gritty when I was done.

The quadrail/handguard comes off with the barrel nut, which requires a tool from Smith, or a homemade one. Should be able to pop off the end cap and jam a rag down there to dust it off, or used a can of compressed air.

Thank You MARK!!! How much does that tool cost and secondly where or rather from whom would I order such a tool...Thanks again for taking the time to respond to KiaTia and my questions...was starting to feel unwelcome LOL
 
I'm sure you will get plenty of good advice on cleaning and taking the quad rail off, but its not really needed. I shoot mine full auto quite a bit, I put 2000 rounds through it last saturday and although I did clean the gun, I have yet to have a need to take the quad rail off of it. A good air compressor will do you wonders. When I built mine I usually loctite the rail in place so when it heats up it WON"T come loose.....The barrel is not something that needs to be clean in order to operate correctly. Yes, if you want it "white glove" clean then I reckon you might want to remove it, but even the military doesn't remove their quad rails for cleaning.

Just wanted to really take great care of this particular firearm as it WILL be one of heirloom guns for my son one day along with my model 29 .44 mag., my old .357 mag. L frame duty weapon from the good ol'days before glock lol..Thank You for your response sir!
 
Homemade Barrel Removal Tool

Hello. Here is an image of a barrel removal tool that I made from an old piece of a tripod leg. Not pretty but worked very well., I am sending the barrel off to be threaded--want to try out a suppressor.

I can provide more details about the tool or disassembly if you have a question.

dont you have to have a License of some sort to be able to use a suppressor? You do in Texas.

Would you please give a few more details on the removal and what I should expect as I try this. I also need my barrel threaded.

You'll need to make a tool. I used an old tripod leg that was long enough to reach down to the barrel nut. You will need to cut away some of the material in order to make 4 (might get away with 2) four fingers to engage the nut. I used a Dremel tool to do that. I also drilled a hole in the other end of the tool to insert a rod so I could get enough torque to remove the nut.

Once you get the nut removed you slide the barrel out by going out the receiver end.

Next step is to slide the feed ramp/ejector off the end of the barrel. I used some Kroil to soak that section and used a brass drift punch and a hammer to slowly work the feed ramp/ejector section off by hitting it around the circle. You will need to clamp it in a good vise (I used a peice of leather to protect the barrel). You do need to be careful not to hit the end of the ejector as you move the feed ramp section off. Once you get it started to move, it should come off fairly easily.

That is about all there is to it--let me know if anything doesn't make sense. Overall, it was not that hard to accomplish once you make the tool.

Just though I'd ask: Has anyone found a "single point sling adaptor" to mount a single point sling to this rifle (MP15-.22)? I have the sling but am reluctant to drill into the polymer and would prefer not to use a zip-tie...the zip-tie is my best solution so far...
None of the AR products seem to be correct from what I've seen...anyone have a solution yet? Thanks. Matt
 
i had a single point Blackhawk sling, and it had a hook on it, i just clipped on the sling mount on stock. I desided to go with a 2pnt sling after that, so i dont have it anymore.
