Went to a local fun show Friday and picked up another M&P 15-22. The one on the top I had from before but with a magnifying scope. The one on the bottom is the new one. Don't get too excited about the Mapul stock. I had that laying around the gun room. My new one was the version with original stock, Magpul BUIS and threaded barrel. I added the UTG rail covers, foregrip and clone point.
I picked up these babies as well non- M&P related

Flash hiders - accuracy??
Evile:
When you added that cool flash adapter and A2 hider to your unthreaded barrel, did you notice any change in accuracy?
I too have an unthreaded 15-22 that is very accurate. I'm seriously considering putting the set up you have on my rifle, but don't want to lose the accuracy I now enjoy.
In general, has anyone noticed flash hider equipped rifles being noticably less accurate than non flash hider equipped rifles?
Thanks Evile for the pics! Thanks everyone for comments and insights.

Here is my new plinker. Threaded barrel for suppressor, 5 power illuminated reticle scope. Have only put couple of hundred rounds through it so far, it did not like CCI's but Federal bulk pack functioned pretty well.

I still need the barrel threaded sometime in the future, I don't really like the slip-on flash hider.

I so can't get into that Sig Phil. I've held one and it's a quality fire arm for sure, but it's got a face only a mother could love! (though getting rid of the OEM fore end and replacing it with rails, helps a LOT).

Here's my first entry in the gallery. I love the classic M4 Carbine kind of look, so I left most of the 'stuff' off this version of the rifle. [And I've got a *big* pile of stuff to mount for later postings. ]
Here are the customizations:
*DoubleStar A2 front sight tower, .625 inside diameter, lightweight, pre-ban, from Midway USA. Additional sight hardware added. Secured with a 4-40 X 3/8 nylon tip stainless steel hex socket set screw.
*UTG rail covers on the top and sides of the handguard
*UTG version 6 carry handle
*Mako GLR16-S stock
*Mako AG-43 grip
Thanks to Brett248Vista for his post with the specs for making the A2 front sight work. He also helped me correct a problem with a missing part on my rifle's grip, so I can't be too PO'd that he beat me to the punch with the sniper-rifle look [see his posting on page 72 of this thread] after I'd already bought the same kind of parts he had and was about ready to post a photo myself. This compelled me to go with the carbine-look first lest I be charged with scandalous plagarism.
[I'll still post the sniper-look pictures anyway, shortly. Perhaps I'll challenge Brett to a Stalingrad-like battle of sniper versus sniper. Of course, with 22's we'll have to agree to ranges of 100 yards or less, which will allow us to fling curses as well as bullets. ]
Taking Brett's suggestions, I ordered a .625 front sight tower (from MidwayUSA) and had a machinist friend bore it out to .667 (the diameter of the 15-22's barrel). He also installed a set screw into the bottom of the forward mounting bracket (the one with the bayonet lug) so that it screws from the bottom, clamping the sight to the barrel. The nylon tip on the set screw keeps the barrel from being damaged. The sight has held on pretty well, surviving a round of shooting at the range without any movement I've been able to notice. I'm now working on a way to mount a different kind of set screw into the bottom of the rear bracket to add even more strength to the sight; there's already a decent-sized hole there so you can't just install the same set screw as the front bracket.
Note that the front sight tower did not come with any of the additional hardware, so you'll need to get a front sight post, dentent piece and detent spring (plus a sling swivel and a pin to complete the look. I got one but haven't installed it yet). All of these items are available at any AR parts counter at a gun shop or gun show.

Okay, here's the sniper-look photos.
I ordered all this stuff in February, and was shocked to see in March that Brett248Vista had envisioned the same kind of look, down to the magazine coupler.
Ah well, I'm already working on a cool third look.
Here's the list:
*Condor Outdoor Products MA6 double mag pouch & MA2 ammo pouch
*Spike's Tactical ET-1 fake sound suppressor (with etching). It only costs $40!
*Command Arms Accessories M16/AR15 Stock Saddle
*NcStar 3-9X42 Mark III Scope with laser
*UTG deluxe see-thru riser mount
*Mako TZ-2 AR15/M4 mag couplers
*Magpul front & rear backup sights (MBUS)
*Streamlight PolyTac LED flashlight
*Command Arms Accessories flashlight/laser mount, 5-position
*Magpul angled fore-grip (AFG)
*Winchester Harris-type bipod (swivel stud connector)
*American Defense quick disconnect auto lock (swivel stud to Picatinny rail converter for bipod)
*Magpul XTM rail covers on sides of handguard
*Blue Force Vicker's 2-point combat sling
*Daniel Defense rail mount QD swivel attachment point

here are my first real pics, I've been waiting for everything to get done but I couldn't take it, and took a few real quick ones to send to the brother in law last night.
Still waiting for a few more goodies to come in today and tomorrow. (I've found that clicking refresh on the UPS tracking screen every 5 min does make a bit of a difference )
anyway, here it is as it sits now. (well actually the scope is off and back in the box as the wife doesn't know about it yet... and I want to sight it in with the iron sights first... )
I need to work on the placement of the scope though. If I hold the gun how it feels natural to me (stock all the way extended) and I place the Scope on so I can get a full field of view through it, it's too far back to mount. So I moved the stock up with the scope sitting all the way back and that was fine, but then I can't really get at the charging handle. If I put the scope so it clears the charging handle and push the stock all the way up, my nose ends up touching the charging handle As mounted there I can get to the charging handle, ok, but not as good as I'd like, and my face still feels a little close to it. Going to take some playing around to find a good balance.
Should get to do quite a bit of shooting this weekend so I'm hoping to have a bunch of pictures and maybe a few videos to post as well
*No fish were harmed in the making of this post.

Well it's official. I have the dreaded Black Rifle Disease. Since I have bought my 15-22, it has given me the excuse to buy stuff since it will fit my 15T also. So here is my latest incarnation. Next on the list is to get BeltFed to thread my barrel.
Vltor E-Mod Stock
MagPul MOE Grip
MagPul AFG
MagPul Ladder Rail Protectors
MagPul MBUS
EOTech 553
EoTech 3X Magnifier

its made by ncstar...i think, got it from midway for 25 bucks. it is very sturdy!! it bolts on to the top rail, then my quick release scope just mounts on top of it. it still holds zero. ill post a few pics later when i get btteries for my camera, been spending all my money on this damn gun...lol

Brett,
Thanks. I was away from the forums for a few hours 'cause I was at the range.
As much as I enjoy firing the bigger cousins of the 15-22, nothing compares to heading up to the indoor range 15 minutes away and plinking away 'till closing time at 10 pm. [My various handguns and my Marlin 1894C ("John Wayne" lever action) keep the 15-22 from getting lonely].
I own a couple of real rifles, but the outdoor ranges in these parts are more than an hour away (with no traffic, a rarity), so those trips are few and far between.
The nightime hours of the indoor range allow me to come and go without raising a fuss in the neighborhood. Here in liberal suburban northern Virginia my neighbors are very fine people, but many of them don't "care" for guns in the first place, and most of the rest are still jumpy 8 years after the DC sniper rampage. One peek at an AR-style rifle outside its case--or maybe just the case itself--could have SWAT on my lawn.
Enough politics.
The riser really makes a difference. With the stock saddle in place the riser positions the scope perfectly. And I think it just looks better.
I've got a high-end free float handguard to install, and an M4 carbine handguard. All I need is to figure out how to remove the existing handguard. [See my plea for help in the instructional-video thread.]
With the M4 guard, I've got a bolt installed in the back of the A2 sight (where the gas tube would be) that I'll use to attach the sight to the end cap of the handguard (which already has a hole for the gas tube). That should make the front sight even more stable.
Cool pictures....and some do-it-yourself instructions....will follow.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Now if it didn't take me an hour to find it that would have worked for me a little better, DA my fault LOL!!! I'll be looking in this thread here for the pics, or maybe you could pm me I know what you mean about spending the cash on this thing. I'm going broke Thanks again. Take care.

Just put the ACS stock on today and I really like it. Can't wait to get back out and shoot! I haven't been able to do so for 2 weeks because I had all my wisdom teeth extracted and my face was too sore. It's been killing me!! (the lack of shooting, not lack of teeth)
The 15-22 is joined by my Browning Buckmark Tactical & my custom Ruger 10/22. These three are the mainstays of my .22 collection.

ArcaneFlame, where did you get that Buckmark? Or is it custom made? Never seen one of those ... Like the looks of it!

It's a special model made specifically for Gander Mountain. Here is a link to it: Gander Mountain® > Browning Buckmark Tactical with Rail .22 LR Semi-Automatic Pistol
Providing that your state does not have a handgun roster like Kommiefornia you could probably pick one up either directly from them or second-hand via Gunbroker I would imagine. Goddess, I'd love to get one myself but unless someone is willing to buy one and do a barrel swap there is not a chance in Hades.

Okay well I've been on here for a while, and I've kinda been sitting back and learning so when someone post something asking a question I can answer it with the right answer. I think I've finally finished my setup on my 15-22. The only thing I might add is a 3x magnifier behind my red dot. Here's a few pics of my 15-22 and some recent targets. Thanks
Magpul CTR
Magpul Moe Grip
Magpul rail covers
Magpul BUS
Walther PS 22 Tactical Red Dot
Tapco Vertical Grip Short
UTG Tactical OP Bipod
Viking Tactical Light Mount
Surefire G2 Light
Desert Tactical Dual Bungee Single Point Δ Delta Sling™
This is a Walther PS 22 Tactical Red Dot Sight 30mm Tube 1x 5 MOA Dot. I got it from MidwayUSA for $67 shipped. I love this red dot. The dot is a little smaller than a 5 MOA. Which i don't mind because it's a little better for longer distances. It has 11 brightness settings. On a bright bright bright! sunny day you might need to use the highest setting. I was using 7 most of the day. It co-witnesses with my MBUS. Took me only 5 shots to zero in. I highly recommend this dot for anyone out there looking to spend under a $100.
This target is at 25yds using my bipod
This target is at 25yds standing with both eyes open

idb,
Very cool. I've got a friend that has the PS 22 red dot sight and loves it too. Especially for the price.
How sturdy is your UTG stock when shooting with the legs fully extended. I'm hearing mixed reviews and want to know how yours is behaving.
Also, I seem to recall that you (or someone) described somewhere in the forum how you painted your mag to match the desert tan polymer look. Could you post that again or point me to where it is?
Thanks.

I have to say the UTG Bipod is very sturdy. Everything functions on it like it's suppose to. Next week I'm going to try it on my 223 and see how it olds up. I am very impressed with the it though. I got it for $30 flat at a gun show 3 weeks ago. It's very well made. I couldn't see myself buying anything else, especially for the price.
and for the magazines, I just bought some Krylon Ultra Flat Tan spray paint in a can. I just sprayed it on with OUT and special tip. It turned out very well. In person you can tell there is a SLIGHT difference(i mean its hard to tell) in colors. It's a little lighter than the Magpul Dark Earth. I took apart the magazines, and I did wipe them down pretty good. Then I did like 2-3 coats. I only painted the magazine high enough so no black would be seen when the magazine was in the rifle. I didn't want any feeding issues or any problems withe the mag not going in easily. It only takes like 15 mins to dry. This is the inexpensive way of doing it. If you wanna go more expensive and maybe a little better quality google "duracoat in magpul flat dark earth". It should take you to a website called houtsenterprises.net. Look through the quick guide and you will find a few ways of doing it. If you have anymore questions feel free to pm.

Here's my rilfe after some painting. Has anyone had any issues with the paint rubbing inside the mag well. It's a little snug but nothing to hamper any functions. I think the next mag I paint I'll tape up right above the seond rib from the top of the mag. Otherwise I think It's worth the 4 bucks rather than buying another set of everything. I guess I'll getting around to doing the stock sooner or later.

I'm playing with the idea of painting my 22 (Krylon), but I'm concerned if the paint will chip off it great lumps due to the receiver material. Anyone painted their receivers yet?
Oh and to keep it on topic, here's mine in it's current configuration:

Been reading the threads on this forum for a few months now, helped me out a ton from buying to shooting my now 1 month old M&P 15-22, just want to pass along a general thank you to all who contribute on a regular basis.....I had many of the same common problems that I have seen reported, (FTE, FTF) and with the videos and tips on here (and now about 1000 rounds to break it in) the shooting is great....still have an occasional issue, but mainly due to not loading the mag correctly, or because of the ammo. Went back to the range today to try out a few tweaks and compare a few brands of ammo (bulk Winchester, bulk Remington, and CCI Mini Mags....could not find a box of bulk Federal, local Wal-Mart was sold out)....but after shooting today I figured I would go a head and add a few comments for the first time, and include a pic.
So far have added a TruGLO red/green dot 1x magnification site (got it in the bargain cave at Cabela's after much searching and reading, the value is what made my mind up, and it works great), carry strap with swivel and fore grip (grip and swivel were government issue left overs that might have accidentally come home with a military friend of mine). Really like the set up as I have it, shoots great, the CCI were the most reliable rounds but the Winchester were by far the most accurate ( less than a 1.5" group at 25 yd)...thinking about adding flip up sites, but now sure that I really need them with the way the TruGLO works.
Anybody have any recommendations on what their favorite/best add on has been?

Schmidt, I'd throw some sort of BUIS on there. The MAGPUL MBUS seem very popular and also a cheap option (I'm even considering changing out my ARMS one for a complete set of them).
My fave add-on has been the stock I put on. Although it will change in the future, I say it's my fave as the stock one that came with the gun wobbled.

Here's mine. Virginal right out of the box. She won't look like this for long. Already ordered a Primary Arms M3, Magpul XTMs, and Magpul RVG grip. Will finish her off with some more Magpul goodies when I get some more fundage at the end of the month (Magpul MOE grip and stock and MBUS).

Not the best pic. Nonetheless, here she is. Two weeks old this coming Friday. Waiting for the Larue index clips and that will be it for awhile.
Installed a JP spring kit, yesterday. I like the trigger pull, which the spring kit affords.
