I had been interested in the M&P15-22 since I heard of it. My wife surprised me and bought me one for my birthday. I took it to the range for the first time today and it wouldn't feed a round from the magazine into the chamber (right from the very first round). It took multiple times to get one to load. When I did get one loaded it wasn't long (few rounds) before another one failed to load. The bullets that failed to load would be bent and scraped.

I read about the sensitivity of loading the magazine, so I was careful to do it correctly. At first I was trying Remington Thunderbolt, but I heard of all the problems with Remington, so I bought some CCI and tried it --same problems.

Needless to say, I was dissappointed. I came home and found this forum today. I saw this thread: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-long-guns/102542-m-p-15-22-broke-after-6-rounds.html
Sure enough, when I looked at my gun more closely I noticed that there was no feed ramp on the barrel! It was rough at the bottom, like the feed ramp broke off. I hope this is not a major problem.

I called Smith and I will be sending it back for repair.

Smith will make it right...don't worry. I know it blows to have to send back a new rifle, but they will fix it and send it back with a couple of extra magazines for your trouble. It's a blast to shoot when it works right. I may be jinxing myself but I have fired over a 1000 trouble free rounds from mine.

good luck!

Congrats on the new 15-22. Sorry to hear about the missing feed ramp. That has happened to a few others, so don't take it personal.

S&W will make it right. I have heard they are no longer including extra magazines on the return. The reason might be that they are out of them at them moment.

Some Pictures

Here are some pictures. It appears that the feed ramp is broken. Can anyone take a peek at theirs and confirm it?

Thanks.

EDIT: Couldn't get the photos to load properly. Here is the link: http://picasaweb.google.com/cooperdm/MP#

Yep, appears broken off to me! (Receiver is oriented rails down. Ramp -- or what's left of it -- is at the top.)

Thanks for posting the pics. Just curious what the first three digits of your guns serial number is?

Since the photo was on a website I just copied the address (right click and choose properties usually) and clicked the little yellow mountain icon above the message block and pasted the address into the prompt.

You can literally paste any photo from any website but since the photos are really links they disappear if they're deleted from the original website.

This puppy photo will probably not be visible very long as the lil' darling is up for adoption. (We don't really buy dogs, just pay money to adopt them!)
