Funny you mentioned that. I went thru better than 300rds today without a hiccup. I usually go thru a 550 box but I brought the Bushy for some .223 fun. Gettin close to 12k rounds in the 15-22...

thats good to hear! Im glad things are working out. it seems like if you get a gun that doesnt break right off, youll be all set once it breaks in! im going to have to get get a few bulk boxes and take a few friends out and put it thru hell, and see how she holds up. then we'll know for sure.

I answered No, but I've only had it a couple of weeks, and 200 or so rounds through it is all.

Hope I can click "no" a couple of years from now.

well guys I have ran several hundred rnds through my 15-22 with some problems now aboute every 5 rnds it smashes the casing and does not eject it is the new 15-22 with the flash hider . I have tried cci and federal bulk pack all have same problem I have used several mags same with all. Called s&w they sugested for me to send it in and have it checked out. Very unhappy with s&w they should have their problems worked out before they market a new product. they said that the failure some times happen but they could fix it. hope so. I also have a couple of the colt m4 22 the carbine worked great and the ops gave problems so I sent it back on a thursday and had it back on tuesday and it works GREAT so maby the 15-22 will be ok after they work on it.

You could always try the 15 second ejector fix before sending back to S&W.

I agree everything should work 100% out of the box. But we are dealing with reality here. No one should ever get ill either.

i'm hearing this a lot here and it baffles me. i'm sure smith thought they did have their problems worked out before going into mass production, why would they knowingly produce a firearm that they know to have issues? i'm sure they torture tested a number of 15-22 prototypes. i'm sure they tried a lot of different types of ammo too. the one thing that they cannot account for is US, the end users! they can't account for consumers loading the mags incorrectly. they can't account for guys who clean their rifle every 50 rounds versus guys who clean it when the bullets fail to seat in a severely fouled chamber. they can't account for how much knowledge or experience a particular shooter brings to the rifle. they can't account for aftermarket mods that we make to our rifles (that we all so cleverly switch back to OE before sending it back for repair).

i mean, it's a semiauto rimfire rifle. that's not synonamous with flawless function, at least not in my experience. my 10/22 has has about the same number of rounds through it as my 15-22 and probably 3x as many FTFs. i don't piss and moan about how ruger should have their act together considering how long they've been producing the 10/22. i'm not happy about the fact that i have FTFs with either rifle, but it's part of the rimfire life. if we were having these problems with the .223 M&P it would be a different story all together.

having said all that, i do think that given the number of issues, smith should be willing to "update to the latest spec" all 15-22s at their cost, regardless of how well or poorly the gun is currently running. it should be the owners choice whether or not to send his/her gun in. i also think that if there was a magazine design change, anyone who spent hard earned dollars on the "old" mags should be compensated in some way towards the purchase of the newer mags...if the new mags are truly different. even though they aren't doing these things, i still rest easy knowing i have a lifetime warranty. if my baby goes OOB, smith will fix it, over and over if they have to, on their dime.

i know it's easy for me to criticize those of you who complain about the issues you're having considering my 15-22 runs really well. if my gun took a **** early on i'd be ticked off too. you have every right to be frustrated. i just disagree that it's smith and wesson's fault for a poorly designed rifle. if designing a .22 autoloader on an AR platform was easy, it would have been done long ago. up until now, all you had was the conversion kit and from what i hear, they are just as finicky.

good luck with your rifle when it is returned to you Sherman. i hope you have a chance to enjoy your 15-22 as i have so far...to the detriment of my bank account no less.

First 350 rounds all Remington Golden Bullets - No failure-to-feed, no failure-to-eject, and only the typical RGB 'dud' rounds, averaging somewhat less than 1 per 25 rnd magazine (which is a better average than my 10/22s have with RGBs, perhaps the 15-22 has a more powerful firing pin arrangement).

How about a survey that just says "problems" no problems" wouldn't that be more fair? Unless of course you want to know what the problems are.

what I am seeing here is roughly 75% WITHOUT problems and 25% WITH problems. Too many in my opinion.

25% is so far off the charts for any production item that it is hard to believe. I suspect it is actually quite a bit lower than that but still way off the charts for any production firearm the likes of S&W.

Well its not hard to do the math here on this survey. its 25% here on this survey with problems and 75% without. That seems like to much for me. Im kind of wishing I went with the sig 522 instead. That thing shoots anything 22lr. And about the same price as the 1522. Watch nutnfancys review. This is how the 1522 should be for the money...

Yeah, I can count on my fingers and toes too. However, there's something to be said about more people taking the time to complain than praise.

My 15-22 is 99% with Fed Bulk Pack. I don't expect my Sig R522 SWAT to do much more than 1% better . Though, I expect the R522 to be far superior in the accuracy department. My 15-22 really sucks.

It appears that S&W has added something to the mix this past month! There have been a few reports of 15-22's sent in for repair have had the trigger spring and bolt spring replaced recently. Mine was sent in last October/November and the springs were not replaced, just the "updated to current specs" on the repair sheet. To this day I still don't know what was done? I wonder if there has been a change? Due to the weather and my schedule I haven't had the time to shoot much! Hope I don't have to get my springs replaced next! Time will tell. Anyone have any info on this?

Right. Simply replacing broken parts with same isn't much of an "update". Apparently, that's not the case now.

This is the quote of a 15-22 owner from my local forum, he mentioned about the update and upgrade after got his rifle back from S&W. Very interesting.

Quote:
hey maxi when i got my rifle back i had complaint about my trigger being rough and too heavy, and when i got it back they put a whole different trigger assymbly and pull is about 4.5 lb alot lighter, and they replaced the whole charger assym. with different type of springs...
The improvement of the trigger pull alone, makes me want to sent my 15-22 back to S&W already.

300 rds fedral bulk. One stuck verticaly in mag. No ftf/fte. Very accurate, 3in. groups @ 40 yrds. Will stick with this ammo until a problem arises. Very happy with my purchase.

Even if it is mainly people who have had problems responding to the survey the manufacturing defect rate must be very high.

I was looking at one and am now glad I didn't make the purchase.

This is a great survey! I was starting to have my doubts about whether or not I should cancel my order for my 15-22. Reading through the threads it seems like everyone has had problems. This just goes to show that there are more people who have not had issues than those that have. I will take my chances. Plus S&W has a great Cust. Serv. Reputation which is backed up by those that have shared their issues here.

Time to bring this poll back to life! It's been 3 months since the last post. I noticed another feed ramp missing post. There were at least 5 noted so far. Lot's of new members on the forum so please take a minute to take the poll. Thanks and happy shooting.

Mine has no issues as long as I stay away from Remington ammo.

I also keep mine well lubed, and I run a bore snake down the barrel every few magazines.

Got my rifle 3 days ago, put over 600 rounds down range and no problems. It is one of the newer models, SN DURXXX. I have been using Federal bulk and CCI Blazer ammo.

Over 3000 rounds and the rifle is settling in nicely. I can even feed dirty, old, Rem GB with no problems. I'm using Gunzilla with amazing results. The bolt catch is even working every mag now.

I finally got mine to the range today and fired 260 rounds at a fairly rapid pace (as fast as the range master would allow, anyway). I have three magazines, and each one performed flawlessly. I shot Federal GameShok (blue box) and Federal AutoMatch AM22.

Shooting rapid-fire offhand with 54-year-old eyes, iron sights, and no sling at 50 yards, I managed to put everything into a 5-inch circle.

New member. I've had my 15-22 for nine months now. I'm an LE/Mil instructor and I've used my 15-22 in six 4-day carbine courses. I've put approximately 5000 rounds through it with very few malfunctions. The malfunctions that I have had were due to low quality ammo. I love this stick! I believe it's one of the best and most economical training platforms available.

had a DTX prefix , worked great with the HOT stuff , and would jam every 3-4th rd with the cheap stuff.
sent an E to S&W , got a reply real quick ... with the info and label to send it in for repair , picked up at my home by Fedex and will be droped off by fedex.
great customer service , my other M&P15-22 (blue springs) works great with what ever I feed it (this is the Wife's 22 was told I would have to wait till i get MINE back before I go shoot'n again....oh well

Forget my serial start, but I bought mine shortly after they came out. Its had the better part of 1K rounds thru it now and nothing out of the ordinary has happened. Even laying it face up in the rain it functioned flawlessly.

Talking No Problems

Just spent my first day on the range with the M&P 15-22 and what a blast! Put 600 rounds through it and was very impressed I used Winchester Super X high velocity and seemed to run well I had 6 failure to feeds but it was after about 400 rounds. I cleaned and lubed and had no more problems. I had great groupings but I think I will try something different next time out to compare.
