Why all the cheap "knock off" scopes?
I'm curious why I am seeing so many picture on here of cheap, knock off, and counterfiet scopes on people 15/22's? Just because it's a 22 it still deserves a good scope and not some *** counterfiet air soft scope.

I haven't posted a picture of mine yet but I did top it off with a Bushnell Tropy scope. Yeah, it looks like an Acog but for what I'm going to do with it, I can assure you I will be able to do the same things that someone who spent four times what I did on the real thing. I have nothing against anyone who actually does put a real Acog, Eotech or Nightforce on theirs but for the purpose of what I'm goinog to do with my 15-22, I can't justify it. BTW, I don't consider my scope a ***. To imply that against me or anyone else for what they've purchased is just ignorant.

because i don't need 500 yard glass on a .22lr. i shoot paper and chipmunks at less than 50yds. i'll shoot some steel at 100 yards. how will a leupold, zeiss, swarovski, trijicon, etc outperform my "***" ncstar at those distances?

It's not the scope that makes the shot. It's the person behind the gun that makes the shot.

i have a hard time putting rifles on scopes myself... most scopes that are higher name brand and higher cost arnt that much better than a simons or what ever for what 90% use them for... granted ive got a $1500 scope on my 1000 meter gun... was it needed.. no but it makes me sleep better at nights... as long as it does what the shooter wants it to do then why does it matter what it cost... its like saying u need a vette to drive back and forth to work when a nissan is closer to the truth... but if the goal is to attrack somethin else then what can i say ...." the vette gets um wet"

I am a Leupold man . Kind of like I used to be a Pontiac man , when they had three deuces . I have found by laying low and going with your buddies to every gun show and Cabelas free snow cone day in your state , you can observe your good friend buy a double dip bullet drop compensating , range finding , parallax correcting , shoot in dark , laser sabre , latte dispensing , rechargable sat tell and scopeasaurous . You then ask him " what are you going to do with those 4X Leupolds or Redfields " . "You know how rough it has been , being me lately ." Friends don't let friends sight through Tasco . I am three for three , I did have to take a Redfield once though .

My 15-22 deserves what it gets.
What does your 15-22 deserve? Please post some pics of 100 yard groups with your 15-22 and high dollar glass. I'm sure many will be interested to see.

3 reasons:
1. The recoil from a .22 long rifle isnt going to affect a cheap scope/redot. a 7mm mag sure will
2. why put $$$$$$ worth of glass into a gun that costs $399
3. im not shooting deer at 100+ yards...my 15-22 is for cans, squirrels, a paper targets at 25-50 yards off the back deck of my house

I completely agree with reelman
That is why I am going with the Swarovski Z6i 2.5-15X44, BT, BR-I Reticle Illuminated. I plan on shooting at around 25-30 yards and need something that will show the fibers in the paper besides its only $2849.00

I am a Leupold man, have been for more than 35 yrs.. Because the name brand scope have become so pricey, it is no surprise that the more economical no name scopes are enjoying the popularity they are. I have not bought a new a Leupold in years, I buy my Leupolds from the secondary market never paying more than 50% of current retail price. Sometimes I am fortunate to find near NIB scopes for that price. I let others tote the note of paying full retail price, Leupolds are so well made that I have never had a problem with one of their used scopes.

I guess there is a difference here.. There isn't much "optics" involved in a Zero Magnification red dot "scope" so it's kind of hard to screw up, there isn't much in the line of sight just flat glass with some coating on each end and one reflective lens on the inside with Wind/Ele adjusters.
Now if we start talking about real scopes with real magnification, I would probably still try something like an NC Star before a Leo just because of the cost of gun to cost of scope ratio. I'm a guy that likes the stuff the Military has, but like I said before, even on the cheap side of $800/$900 I can't swing a Trijicon right now.. But when I can, sure I will have one, and it will be used on multiple rifles.

I have a Aimpoint clone on mine because it is my training weapon. I have a real Aimpoint on my M4 and the 15-22 is setup exactly the same as the M4. No need to spend 400 bucks on an aimpoint when a knock off will do just fine. It's not like the 15-22 recoils like a 300 win mag or something!
I used the money I saved to purchase more 5.56 ammo.
YMMV

A very reasonable way to look at it..
But no matter what we do, someone will always criticize just like some posts I've read before "Why don't you just convert a real AR to 22 and then you have a real AR" well I could respond with "Why don't you buy a real M4 A1 and not a clone like an AR..." it never ends!

Ain't that the truth!
I buy cheap Chinese clone stuff cause it looks cool and I enjoy it. I think some people criticize other's rifles and accessories because they think it makes them cool and they enjoy it.

I guess I can understand a cheaper scope but the knock off counterfiet Aimpoints, EoTechs, Acogs, etc. are what gets me. These are obviously infringing on the patents and the rights of the original manufacture, it's like wearing a fake Rolex! I would think that people would have some integrity and not be buying and promoting rip off products.

It's not in any way infringing, it does not say "Trijicon ACOG" on it.. and it does not use Tritium and Fiber Optic Illumination. It's just a red dot that "looks like" an ACOG.

That's an interesting observation from someone who bought a 15-22. Notice anything familiar with your rifle?

I love my knockoff ACOG, looks great(and real), crystal clear, stays true. No sense in spending stupid money on a scope to put on a $500 gun. I have a pricey Leupold and I got it on my pricey rifle. This clone is tits man, I even got the mini red dot that mounts on top of the rear of it and the back up iron sights you see on it all for around $200 on eBay. Hong Kong. There is some definite infringement goin on here Brett.
And mines a 4x.

SGD,
I have seen the model you have on eBay and yes there *IS* legitimate infringement with that model! China of course, does not honor any US or World Patent laws so we can scream till we are blue in the face and they will continue to make it. And if my some chance Trijicon was able to shut this one down, another would pop up almost instantly.
Mine has no "trades" it just "looks" the part, but so does a Bushnell Trophy.
