best i can remember its 1 in 16... but check s&w ive slept since ive looked at it:D

i can allways count on phill for a good:D... well you and something belt fed lol

Match-Grade Barrel - are they serious?

Thanks, I looked in wrong place. Clicking on specs gave nothing.

Product: Model M&P15-22 - A1 Style Comp

Trying to find an accurate sub-sonic round that will feed well. I want to use the 15-22 as a low-noise, breakdown, backpack rifle that I can use on small game. I was thinking about the Marlin Papoose until the 15-22 came along.

you may need a booster to get it to run reliably.. or change springs.. but mine likes the fiocchi and wolf match extra both

ouch, with all the feed problems these guns have wouldnt a sub-sonic round cause even more cycle problems?

Aguila SSS is subsonic and has enough power to cycle the action fine. It's a 60 grain bullet. They chronographed at 900 plus a few FPS out of a 15-22 for me. Some people make special fast twist barrels for the 10/22, but the SSS stabilized fine out of the 15-22 for me.

Thanks, JRD. That's good to hear cuz I just happen to have some of it. Range report to follow.

I'd say you're right. Even S&W specifically excludes sub-sonic rounds on their list of approved ammo-and they should know something about rifles that don't work!

LOL!!!! If nothing else, I am sure the FedEx truck reminds them of it every morning.

i think the standard on twist stab. for a 60 gr. is greater than 1/20.. so the 1/16 should be fine... 60gr. bullets give more back pressure because of their mass not because they r "hotter" so they may run fine without a booster

I have some Wolf MT and older Federal 714 whose velocity is supposedly less than 1100fps. I'll try that. Heard about the 60gr bullets, must try that also. The pack pack I'm talking about is my SHTF Pack. Food (1wk), water & flitration, firstaid, 5.56, 9mm, 22LR ammo, etc., the extra 3lbs doesn't seem to matter now. It all must be around 75lbs (not light). But I figure I better be prepared for obtaining food after one week. Thought also about a suppressor but now I may be getting a little rediculous.

The longer the bullet (and thus usually heavier) in a given caliber, the faster the twist rate needs to be to stabilize properly. 1 in 20" for any .22 LR is WAY to slow. If were to assume the sweet spot for a 40 grain lead bullet is 1 in 16", then generally a 60 grain bullet's sweet spot will be in a faster twist rate. I'm not sure what the length of a 60 grain Aguila SSS bullet is, or how much longer it is than say a 40 grain solid. The 60 grain may stabilize fine in a 1 in 16", but it's possible that it may be more consistent in a faster twist.

1 in 16 to 1 in 12" is the standard twist rate range for .22 LR. For comparison the .22 short (27-29 grain) is in the range of 1 in 20 to 1 in 24"

We r saying the same thing... I've got a custom built 223 on a 1 and 7 twist it won't group 55 grains any closer than 1" at 100 but with 90s it will do that good at 300 with no worries.. I was just stating that some people have fire the 60 gr. 22lr through a 1in20 barrel with a suppresser and ended up buying a new can... they say to be safe use atleast a 1 in 16 to stablilize the that long bullet or it will key hole.. or turn sideways in a can.. depending on how u r using it... sorry if I worded it to sound as if I was disagreeing.. cause I wasn't. Just trying to for warn people
