Default "Proper Loading" of 15-22 mags?

Would someone please tell me what is the "proper" way to load a mag for a 15-22? I must be doing something wrong. Thanks!

Loading M&P15-22 mag 1 at a time

also search the thread "lunchtime goodness"

there are a lot of pics of the properly staggered rounds in the mag that you can search for too.

After loading I always tap the back of the mag lightly against the palm of my hand to seat the rounds. Not sure if it helps but that is how my dad did it. I've never had a missfire, fail to load or fail to feed yet though.

Since no one is using the "search" function (there are several threads on magazine loading), here's my photos again:

Good (left); Bad (right)
Staggered; Not staggered

I see people say that it makes a "big" difference, and that the mags are very picky. Well, I have FTFeed fairly frequently, to me, about 1 every 50 rounds, a lot more when new, 1 every mag. I've intentionally loaded these mags incorrectly, with several rounds stacked to the same side of the mag, and mine do not jam any more or less frequently. I've used mostly Fed bulk, and Win Xpert bulk(actually this has never ftf, but doesn't always go bang).

Has any one actually tried loading them incorrectly besides me to see if it really matters? Just curious, thanks

I didnt want to bring it up, but i never load the mags that carefuly. I know some are stacked to one side when i insert the mag. Not sure if they work themselves into the right sequence or not, but it seems to have no effect.

I haven't made an effort to load incorrectly but I don't look in the window to check one way or the other. I've given my shooting buddies the 15-22 and watched them toss in rounds in a manner that would have some here cringe.... yet have no mag-snags. I think careful mag loading is over rated.

I'll have to agree with the last couple posts. I never have even thought to look at my mags after they were loaded. I just load, tap the mag and fire. Over 600 rounds without a single issue. I only use CCI's and keep my gun clean. Hope it's always this good.

So is it an accepted method to tap the back of the mags against your hand to seat the bullets to the back of the mag?

Yes, I did that today.

First, I actually correctly loaded the mag full-all 25. If you were in the Army in the late 60's, you understand. Mags full=no problem!

Next, I loaded the mags w/ no regard to staggering the rounds. All I noticed was that if you did not stagger the rounds then you could not get 25 rounds in the magazine. Other than a short mag, no problem.

Finally, I shot two full mags w/ rounds loaded purposely in no particular order and did not tap them back. Again, no problems.

I wanted to find some Remington Gold but I decided not to press my luck!

All in all, it appears "correct" loading does not make a difference other than mag capacity.

I went through 500 rounds today w/ absolutely no issues of any kind. (I'm up to 1.5k now)

Recon not to sure if that's how some do it but that's what my dad always did and told me to do. So I do. Ain't had any issues yet. Not even sure it helps but hey it sure ain't hurting anything.

Sounds like you're having way too much fun. I better stay busy in the trigger squeezing department if I want to stay ahead of you!

ps. Ah c'mon... you and Bret should work those Rem GBs for a Forum range report. Blue spec sissies!

The magazine capacity issue may influence mag reliability. I rarely get failures to feed using the "correct" staggered loading.

Thanks guys. My gun has always had problems, but it's nothing that I can repeat with any consistency. I'm just to lazy to ship it back. I've got over 3k through now, and it's gotten better on it's own. I even went 400 rounds without a jam once.

Tapping the back is a good idea. I always do it with my raceguns, never thought to do it with this. I'll give it go.
