M&P 15-22 Magpul MBUS Talo edition
For anyone who is interested, this model is finally showing up. I had a request in to Davidson's and I got the email this morning that they have some in stock. They only have 10, and I predict that they will go fast. Of course, if Davidson's is getting them then your favorite dealer's distributor should have some also. I have one on hold, and am still trying to decide to go with this one or the SIG522. I think it is reasonable to assume that this latest model should have all the bugs fixed, but assumptions can be dangerous. The roughly $70 higher price may just be the Magpul sights, and I have to confess that I have to do some research as to what a TALO edition actually is.

Looks like a 15-22 with MBUS. 15-22 were outfitted with MBUS at the gun show in Chattanooga a couple weeks ago for $499 / $429 w/o.
On a side note... While I was placing an order for an AFG with Magpul a couple weeks ago they mentioned that sometime in April they expected to be offering a new version of MBUS.

Any details of the "new" MBUS? Might also be a price benefit if we see the "older" versions dumped by dealers.

The person I talked to only said release expected in April. I had heard the rumor some weeks earlier, so when I was making the order I asked about em. I was thinking the same thing about price on the older version. I need (want ) another set of flips.

I remember hearing that the new versions of the MBUS will be slightly thinner than the current ones.. Not sure if thats truth or rumor, I report.. you decide.. =)

I called Magpul and got the new 10th anniversary catalog sent to me. In it, it describes the new version MBUS and shows an overlay depiction of the new and old versions. The new one is just a little smaller dimensionaly.

I received a Talo Version for my birthday a few weeks ago. It doesn't work for snot, 5+ failures to eject per mag even with recommended ammo and meticulous magazine loading. I'm waiting for my return label from Smith. I'm not impressed with the Magpul sights either. I would suggest going with the standard S&W with the flash suppressor and adding Troys if you want folding sights.

Sorry to hear about your problems, S&W will fix it for sure, and it will work fine when you get it back, but it's still aggravating. I had hoped that the TALO versions would be latest production model and have the bugs fixed. If you do not mind could you give the first 4 digits of your serial number please? I have a hold on one of the TALO's with Davidson's that expires tomorrow. I had just about convinced myself to go for it, but now I have doubts. Thanks, and sorry you had problems.

DTX7XXX. I hoped it would be a later upgraded version also. It's very accurate. From a rest it was giving me cloverleaf five shot groups at 50 yards with CCI Mini-Mags. Now if we can just get it to work.

Thanks for the information. It has been posted several times that serial numbers aren't and guide as to whether on not one will have problems. What I've seen lately seems to bear this out. One would think that since S&W knows what to fix when one of their rifles comes back that they would have incorporated that fix on the production line. I think I am going to let the hold expire on the one from Davidson's. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.

S&W still doesnt acknowledge that there is a problem with this gun. thats why i have been holding off getting one. there are still people getting bad rifles and if guns are coming back with new parts then they need to be PRODUCED with new parts. thats just my opinion but im still waiting til something happens.

I share your opinion. I've been waiting for the problems to go away on new rifles before I got one too. I had thought the TALO versions or the new stock coming in to the distributors would be ok, but that's apparently not the case. Personally, I am at a loss as to why new guns are leaving S&W headed to distributors with the same problems as the older ones, and why S&W doesn't issue a statement as to what the causes of the problems are, and issue a recall. Granted that if we knew how many of these guns have been sold, the number of bad ones is likely a very low percentage of the total, but that's no consolation to someone who buys one and gets one of the bad ones. Also, to further compound the mystery, S&W takes great care of their customers who report a problem, paying shipping both ways with a very short turnaround; the guns they fix seem to be fixed and stay fixed.
So, they know what the problems are, and how to fix them, so why not admit it and issue a recall? Or put a parts kit together that fixes it, and send the parts to those who have problems who would rather fix it themselves? Or, does the fix involve something other than just switching parts and making some minor adjustments? I think that a thread tiled "Why do you think S&W doesn't admit they have a problem?" would be interesting. Not as an S&W bash, but to see what everyone thinks. I think that S&W doesn't know how to tell which rifles need work until the owner calls and complains. That's my opinion, and it's worth exactly what it costs.

I have the Talo edition and love it. It shoots just fine... any type of ammo since the blue springs were added by S&W. I mainly use the red dot scope but the sights are a great low profile backup. I bought mine cause I like the sight upgrade and the flash suppressor over the stock ones I saw at the local dealerships.

I take it the Talo edition is the one with all of the Magpul MOE gear. If so I just picked up one today. Vey nice rifle and definately worth the price for the upgrades. Hopefully I'll take it out and see how it runs tomorrow.

Actually, no. The Talo Edition has the Magpul sights and a threaded barrel. You purchased the MOE Edition. I got a Talo edition right before I knew they were coming out with the MOE. Oh well.

Did your MOE edition come with blue springs or not? My Talo came with the old springs.

I have been researching this forum and pricing and is it really worth the extra money for the MOE stock compared to the Talo?

I haven't seen a Talo pricing, but I just bought all the same Magpul gear for my AR-15 and getting the Magpul edition over the regular one is a no brainer, well worth it.
Here is the pricing for some of the MOE stuff:
stock $60
grip $20
front and rear MBUS $80
Not sure if the Talo has the threaded barrel.
There was a $60 difference from the regular M&P15-22 and the Magpul MOE edition at the local shop.

I have seen a 90 dollar difference between the MOE and the six position adjustable stock. Both rifles have the threaded barrel and adjustable sights too. I am pretty sure I can live without the magpul stock and can always pick it up later.

The MOE stock really is a lot nicer than the OEM stock. There's no wiggle with the MOE and it feels a lot better. Even with a $90 difference, you're still saving about $100. over purchasing seperately. It's like getting the stock, grip and sling swivel free (unless the vesion you are talking about has the folding sights, then you're only saving a little.)
I shopped around for my brother when he was looking for the MOE edition and ended up finding a local gun store that ordered him one for $523. They had the TALOS for $510. He was out the door for about $565. If shops are charging $90 more than the TALOS, they are gouging and should be avoided.

That's a great price. I paid $489.00 plus tax for my Talo edition. Just to be clear it did come with MBUS and threaded barrel. The difference between the Talo and the MOE is more than the the stock and grip which can be added later. The one thing you can't add later is the integrated sling swivels. If you like running a single point the sling mounts are well worth it. I got my Talo just before I learned of the MOE, I would have waited otherwise.

You CAN add the sling swivels later. I did Sunday morning. Uncle Mike's 1011-2, a 1/2" drill bit, a little JB weld and about 20 minutes will get it done. Here's my thread: Adding QD Sling Swivels to my 1st Gen

Just posted some questions in your thread. It turned out great, but aren't you worried about your warranty?

Magpul MBUS Talo Exclusive just won't go away
Here it is; 2013, and the Talo Exclusive S&W M&P 15-22 is still being offered at a higher price than the actual Magpul MOE Edition.
The S&W SKU 150781 Talo has a $29.00 higher retail price, and is a $100.00 cheaper build.
Modern Mathematics - Ain't it great?
S&W is unable to give approximate numbers that have been made to Talo's Exclusive requirements, but they have been keeping the value up by pumping them out for at least 3 years now. My serial number indicates it was made in April 2013.
The new Exclusive...
I heard a rumor that they have a whole class of 6 year olds with screwdrivers making Talos by installing the BUS Sights.
The whole Talo experience is missing from the serial number, box, literature and rifle. Disappeared with out a trace.
It doesn't have the single point sling attachment points, doesn't have the MOE CTR Stock, doesn't have the MOE Pistol grip, But - wait for it..... You can have it for just 29 suggested retail dollars higher than one that does have all of those items.
S&W Claims that all they do to make it a Talo is put MBUS Sights on it and give it a 151 (specialty) prefix to the SKU.
That has to be some very heavy lifting involved to make that an exclusive.
S&W Claims it will have future collectability value as an unmarked Talo edition.. Really.. Yeah, and I am the Easter bunny.
Better Hop along......
