I have not completely examined it, but a guy at S&W told me it was mfg'd in Sept. 2010, and that no engineering changes have been made since Feb. 2010. He said the only change since Feb 2010 was in the printing of the manual where they added a section of recomended and not recomended ammo (my manual has the ammo list).
Hope this helps

There is a 4 digit date code on your cardboard box. The first digit should be a 0 (indicating year built or 2010), and the remaining 3 digits are a general indication of the day of the year your gun was assembled. For instance, a code of 0294 on your box would indicate an assembly date on or about October 21, 2010 since today is the 294th day of the year. Mine was a DUU serial number with a date code from late July of this year.

My guns serial # is DUM66XX, made on/about May 17, 2010. Only problem I've had is a few stovepipes, due more to federal bulk than anything with the gun as far as I'm concerned.
I'm real close to calling it my dumb gun, cause it's so much stupid dumb fun to shoot!

DUUxxxx here. Purchased in CT-land about 10 miles from S/W factory couple weeks ago (Oct/2010).
Fired 500ish rounds Fed/CCI with only 1 FTF .... prolly cuz I was not watching for the staggered position of the rnds when loading. Or, some such.
BTW, with iron sights ... this gun is extremely accurate, even in this old guy's shaky hands/eyes.

DVA here, 2nd Gen mag and Blue bolt spring. 1000+
rounds and not a single hiccup w/ CCI MiniMag and Winchester
Super Speed. Fired about an equal number of each. I've got
a few bulk packs of the Federal, Winchester and Remington
Gold but haven't tried them in my 15-22 and don't think I
will. I have other .22's to burn them up in and when they are
gone, I won't be buying anymore unless we hit another ammo
shortage period. The CCI MiniMag and Win. Super Speed
have a perfect track record with me and I'll stick with them
from now on. Cost a little more but you get what you pay for.

Hi,
Sorry to thread jack but I'm waiting for Davidson's to get the 15-22 in FDE then I will be ordering one but I hadn't heard about the "second generation mag." When did they change it and what did they change? I bought a couple of spare mags from Midway USA while I was ordering other things so I would like to know if I got first or second generation mags.
Thanks,
Don (newbie)

2nd gen mags have the number of rounds indicated right below the "22 LR". I don't know what they changed, but 1st or 2nd gen, they all work with no problems in my 15-22.

My Smith is a DVAXXX MOE with blue springs and two 2nd gen. 10/25 magazines. Was able to pick it up(10 days after purchasing) last Sunday and shot it Monday but only 100 rounds since I had to work. No problems! Wanted to do 200 today but my shooting partner is M.I.A. and I also left my ammo with him

I just got notification from Davidson's that my MOE in FDE shipped today. Since they just got stock from S&W it should be the latest mods. The e-mail listed the serial number as DUU. Should arrive at the dealer Tuesday, so I hope I can hit the range Wednesday!

Picked up my 15-22 on Dec 8th (ordered it on the 4th), and it's a DVA5XXX series. Mine has the Threaded Barrel with the Flash Suppressor and 25-rd Mags.
Cheers!

DUU-60xx (MOE)
Blue Springs
12/08 Davidison's purchase through a local FFL.
They had a great price on mags, so I bought a 25 and a 10. They are both 2nd gen, but the 10 rounder is still the long, pinned one w/ a blue follower.

Got a DUU about a month ago & if my calculations are correct its about Mid-August. had a few FTL( i think due to rapid loading), & after about 1500-2000 rounds i started getting about 1-2 FTE every mag. so i adjusted the Ejector & have had ZERO malfuntions since(1000 rounds). very satisfied

Just purchased my 15-22 a few days before xmas. It is a new rifle, but the serial number is a DTH model. After reading this thread, this rifle must have been sitting on the track for quite a while! Was given lots of extras, too. Extra mag, 500 rounds of ammo, fore grip, and hand guards for the picatinny rails. All of this for under $400!
I haven't shot it yet, so I don't know if I have a good one our one that needs fixes from smith & wesson. What are all the things I need to look for?

Took my dthxxxx to the range and ran 200 rounds through it.since this rifle was produced, the manual doesn't list any "not recommended" ammo. Of course, the ammo that the shop thw in with the gun was 500 rounds of remington golden bullet. I now have found out that s&w does not recommend that ammo any more.
All that considered, I had 1 stove pipe ejection and 2 failure to fire rounds. Not bad considering that this gun had all original parts (no s&w updates) and using poor ammo.

i also received a DTX2XXX this summer. it CAME with blue springs and a smooth light trigger pull. upon opening the rifle to give it the initial cleaning to rid it of it's protective heavy lube, i found that it seemed that it was already cleaned rather well. the cleaning i did was more of a cleansing wipe. the patches were clean and the whole process was easy. so, i did 2 more times for fun. then 'dry wiped' the individual parts while humming a mantra. and, no red or blue stars and came with a S&W logo on the stock.
how did this gun come to be in this condition? was it randomly pulled and factory tested? an exhibit special? i dunno.
but, so far, it shoots great with several types of ammo, even some 'goldies' i had laying around. i'm a very very happy man...
