Well i have no doubts if its possible you will be the first person to put an after market barrel on a 15/22 before anyone else can even get started.
Im not the most familiar with the 10/22 other than the fact it has such a great after market you can build one from scratch without the Ruger name on anything.
That can go a long way in making a semi auto alot more reliable. But still its not a bolt action.
In order to turn this gun into a gun close to the accuracy of a bolt action you will need more than just a barrel swap.
Im gonna be honest, You can buy a $200 Savage MKII off the shelf for $200 and it be more accurate than the 15/22 and even possibly after a barrel swap also.
I don't have Belt-Feds tools and know how so i have to be more resourceful and look at the most improvement for the cost ratio's and the over all end cost and effectiveness.
And there is no way i can make a 15/22 more accurate than a $200 bolt action unless i paid almost twice what a 15/22 costs, When it becomes possible of course.
Ive been giving this much thought so this thread is timely for me as im getting into accuracy shooting since my longer range outdoor range opened in the spring.
My Savage 93BTV17 .17HMR runs circles around my 15/22 at 50 yards, But the 15/22 hangs in there with good subsonic ammo.
That says alot since that ammo not being the most expensive is still getting close to price as the .17HMR ammo.
So even if you do put all that money in upgrades into a 15/22 you will still need expensive ammo. At a minimum $7-$20 for a box of 50 to hang with the other (Accuracy) bolt actions.
I have 3 "play" guns since i don't hunt so i cant call them work guns yet, But i do want to try some tree rat hunting this fall.
2 of the guns are .22lr which is my 15/22 and a Ruger MKIII 22/44 thats all tricked out also.
While i love shooting them, A $200 bolt action will beat them at the 50 yard line without breaking a sweat.
I don't like the idea of owning to many "play" guns, But i love the ones i have and i don't think i can sell one to replace it with a bolt action, So i may have to add another gun soon.
But then i run into the problem of owning so many guns i cant shoot them all and it just sits unused and i don't like that.
Sorry for rambling here, But i just wanted to share my thoughts on making the 15/22 more accurate and its pro's and con's.
