i completely messed up my new scope
to reload - my scope is the Ncstar Mark III 3-9x42 with mini red dot.
last post on my scope was for the mini red dot and it's failure
to zero. that was user error - didn't loosen down the locking bolts before adjusting it. Ncstar tech support helped me fix that.
now my issue is the scope itself. since i gave my rifle to my wife, i had to put a riser on for the scope as it is really too low directly on the rail. i decided to prelim zero it with the laser bore sight i have, then take it to the range. i thought i got it pretty close on the laser bore sight. when i got to the range i setup a 25yd target and started working it. problem was i couldn't find where i was hitting! finally i found that the scope was shooting about 12-16 inches low of center target! so i started adjusting up and adjusting up and ran out of "up" on the scope with a long way to go. i thought it real odd that i put the scope on a 3/4" riser and it starts shooting low so i pulled the riser and had the same issue. i cannot understand what i did. i "eyed" the scope and it looked "level" to the rail, not sticking out of the weaver or on it at an odd angle. the only thing i did which now has me wondering is that i tightened up the lock nut on the rail clamp when mounting it to the riser since it seemed a bit loose. any thoughts? i don't see that doing it but i guess it could.
i emailed Ncstar for help - still waiting a response

Can you post a pic of the scope mounted on the rifle?

"i thought it real odd that i put the scope on a 3/4" riser and it starts shooting low"
When you put a riser under a scope it will do exactly that.
"i found that the scope was shooting about 12-16 inches low of center target! so i started adjusting up and adjusting up and ran out of "up" on the scope with a long way to go."
As you were adjusting it was there any POI change at all?
"when i got to the range i setup a 25yd target and started working it."
This may sound silly, but was it 25yds or 25 feet?

turn the riser around backwards and remount the scope... i have seen these have some "angle" to them and by turning them around sometimes you can get enough travel out of your scope for it to work..

thanks. yea, it does sound silly but i would not put it past me! it was 25yds. there was change - i assume "point of impact"?. just not nearly enough. so if i raise it up, it will lower the shot? sounds odd to me but it does not surprise me.

i tried this and it did not help. once again i put it back on the rail (less the riser) and still had the same issue. i am wondering if when i tightened the lock nut for the quick release if that did something to the angle of the mounting. i guess i can try to loosen that back up and see what gives.
emailed Ncstar over a week ago and have not gotten so much as a "we got you're email". guess i am gonna have to break out the phone...

Remove and install making sure there is no debris between the scope and mounting surface and it is sitting flush.
I have a Primary Arms Micro Dot with a QD riser. I loosened the nut way up, closed the lever, then set the scope on the rail and snugged the nut. When I take the scope off, I'll just loosen the nut. I don't think much of these cheap QDs. I think they create more issues than solve.

Use mine every week... My scope comes off so the rifle will fit in the case. Go to the range put the scope on, it's zero'd in.
*shrugs*

LOL! That's why I asked "As you were adjusting it was there any POI change at all?" You said yes.... but you didn't mention that POI was moving in the wrong direction as you adjusted it LOL!
In any event... looks like you got things lined up great.. congrats!

What ammo you using? Can't get mine to zero that well. Were you shooting 25yds?
