About a month ago I called S&W because the mag. that came with my 15-22 was doing the mag snag thing. I was told to send in the mag for inspection which I did. I then went and bought three additional mags and I began experiencing the same issues with them. I called again and was told to send in the rifle and the three new mags which I also did 13 days ago.

On Wed. Fed EX came with two of the new style mags to replace the first one I had sent in and today he brought my rifle with new springs in place and three new replacement mags.

My rifle was at S&W for three business days before they had it on its way back to me.

Outstanding service from the moment I called and dealt with extremely polite and helpful customer reps. to their treatment of my problem.

I just put 200 rounds down range with nary a burp. I'm a happy camper.

I know I've been here long enough to know the answer to my own question but, with that said, I want to send back 3 1st gen mags. Will they want my rifle? and will they send shipping lable? Thanks.

When I called about the three after market mags having the same problem as the one that came with the rifle I told the CR that I was convinced the problem was with the mags and not the rifle. However, he insisted that I send in the rifle with the mags so they could determine what the problem was for themselves.

They do provide a Fed Ex pre-paid shipping label. The only slight inconvenience is to get to a Fed Ex shipping point. You can even call and have Fed. Ex pick up at your home if you prefer.

I need to send my rifle in to get fixed. Do you send in just the upper or the whole gun?

When you call S&W and describe the issue they will tell you what to do. Typically, S&W wants the entire rifle for inspection.

I got a letter from S&W on the 7th of this month stating that my new, never fired, 29-10 Classic had been received and normal turn-around time is 2 to 3 weeks. My initial complaint was that I had noticed some scratches on the face of the cylinder. After checking the space between the cone face and cylinder face with feeler gauges I found there was a difference of .005 from one side to the other. Quite a lot I would expect. I then used a micrometer to check the cylinder face to face dimension. There was but .001 difference from front to back of all six chambers. I assumed that either the cylinder was not in alignment with the barrel or the cone face was not perpedicular to the barrel. It is very interesting to note here that while putting forward pressure on the cylinder I could not make it touch, much less drag, on the cone face. I also said that while they have it to take a look at the muzzle, it looks rough.

This morning FedEx delivered my 29-10. Upon opening the box the shine just jumped at me. Enclosed was a letter listing my complaints, and the repairs. "Repair BBL(they did both ends). Replace yoke. Replace Yoke screw. Refinish complete gun". Its been a great day.

not to split hairs... but you do know that .005 is about the thickness of a hair maybe a tad over... and .001 can change with temp. easily on some metals... guns are not dies... they r not made to tight tol. heck most of die parts and are not held to those specs, friend.. im guessing that the play in the cylinder to barrel is there because of the bushing surface that it rides on with out that clearance the cylinder would not turn

yours may very well be out of spec. but i would think that much a difference is normal considering some blueing is thicker than that.. but i hope you get it back asap and all is the way you want it
