I'm wondering if there is a reason for the 2 dimples on the underside of the bolt shown in the pic? They're in the notch machined for ejector clearance.
I seem to have a fairly late mfg date, DUL 04xx, and the only extraction issues I've had have been 4 or 5 failures with Fed 750 bulk.. What I'm wondering is do all bolts have the dimples? Maybe S&W changed the bolt and put the 2 dimples on it to show it's an updated version ?

mine is Dtx and has the dimples, and never been back to S&W

This idea about the dimples is just a guess on my part.
They might be there for any number of reasons.
If more people post to this thread with their info maybe we can learn something.

Mines a DUA 05xx. I had a quick peek and mine has only one "dimple" on the underside of the bolt. If that is of any help.
Never been back to S&W as I have had zero issues with it.

We have a "DUR" with the two dimples shown (with blue springs by the way) and a "DSZ" and a "DSX" which have only a single large dimple slightly to the right of the location of the two dimples in snuf's picture.

What would really be nice to find is someone who is sending theirs back to S&W without a dimple and see if it has a dimple and/or dimples when it's returned. ;)

mine is DTX too and never been back to S&W, works just fine :D

also had a regular silver spring on the bolt, trigger and hammer springs were silver too, until I put a JP yellow spring kit in.

Just picked mine up from 10 day wait period. Its a DTZ and has the two dimples and blue springs.

Mine went to S&W last December. No marks on the bolt afterwards so I'm guessing none were there before! ;)

Oooooops. I was cleaning the 15-22 this morning  .... and underneath all the crud I discovered there was indeed two dimps. Going to the range today to start packing them dimps full of crud again.... :D

Well I guess that means the dimples = upgrade theory is shot down. :(

I suspect the dimples are for balancing the bolt, it's common to do the same thing on car crank shafts for rough balancing, I'm not sure why this would need to be done, but that's my theory.

Or maybe they just put them there so we would question "Why" kind of like the Platypus.
