Default Which Butt Pad??

Based on what I read in a thread on this forum I ordered the Promag PM012 but pad (for a 4-position stock). It doesn't fit. I see where Midway has a Promag butt pad for a 6-position stock, but it doesn't give the height/width dimensions, only the thickness. I measure my 15-22 butt at 5 inches in length (height).

Question: which slip on butt pads fit the 15-22 and how satisfied are you with them? Thanks.

Check out the Promag PM012 for $9.25...slips right on the standard stock, fairly soft, pliable rubber, I'm happy with mine.

THEolfart,

That's exactly what I ordered and received from Midway. It's 4 and 1/4 inches long and the butt on my 15-22 is 5 inches long. It won't go on. You sure you got a PM012? Is your 15-22 a different butt measurement than mine?

The recoil from this rifle really isn't that bad. Why a rubber bad on the stock?

Halfswiss...sorry for taking so long getting back to you. I did some digging-through my gun stuff, measuring and comparing stuff and this is what I found...I still had the bag from when I got the butt pad from one of the local gun shops...it's says "PM012" on it, however that's not what came in the bag. My butt plate's 5 1/8" too and in comparing online pix with what I've got, it's actually a PM088. This pad fits perfectly even though the bag label says "AR-15 M4 1/2". Only thing I can think of was they may have inadvertently switched the items in the bags when somebody was looking at both of them at the counter.
Anyway, the CORRECT pad is PM088 (but it doesn't say that on the pad itself), on the back-side it's stamped "U.S." with a "lit round bomb" figure below it, and the number "A123168 below that. Sorry to all for the inconvenience.

OK, hard rubber. The stock is too long to start with, any reason to make it longer? This is another of those gimmicks that come off before lunch during a three day "basic" carbine course.

Wait, any training is better than none. I would love to be able to do any carbine course.

If you're not a nose to charging handle shooter you definitely need some training. It's the only way to develop a consistent stock weld with this rifle.

Take a good three day "basic tactical carbine" course. You'll probably become a disciple of good training. But most folks would rather pretend. Practice without training just reinforces bad habits.

Default I appreciate all the info

Guys,

Thanks for all the feedback. Now to answer some of your questions.

Because of my arm length, I have lengthened the stocks on almost every rifle and shotgun I have. Recoil, especially on the 15-22, isn't the issue.

I also like to protect the butts from wear and tear - especially on long arms I use for hunting.

THEolfart - thanks for that clarification on which pad.

Again, thanks for all the responses.

Thanks for the information on the butt pad. I just got mine at Academy Sports + Outdoors. Don't think i need the butt pad, but just like the way it feels on my AR-15 and like the idea of the protection.
