I live 12 miles from a Cabela's so I'm going over to get in on that 17.99 deal.
I like to stick with something I know works.
My Rem 597 and my Buckmark don't like the Fed bulk so I'll try the CCI in those also.

Made the mistake of telling my wife I ordered another 1500 rounds of the AR tactical at dinner. She thought the 4000 rounds of 22's was enough. I guess they just don't understand! I told her the 2 bricks of Thunderbolt don't count since I not going to shoot them thru the 15 22 or the Sig 522.

Is that true. I have only shot 40gr. blazers and am gonna purchase the mini mag's yet but was going to get the 40gr and not the 36gr. Guess i'll have to get both and try them out.

you'd have to do some testing to be sure, but one could make the argument that the 1:15" twist on the 15-22 makes it slightly friendlier to heavier bullets.

most .22 rifles out there are typically 1:16" i think... but don't quote me on that.

How did you place an order for the CCI AR? They aren't listed on the website.

The only problem is that is not a very good deal. That's the usual $20 per box plus $20 for the storage box. But the ammo is supposed to be on sale for $18 a box and I just bought 3 of the ammo storage boxes from Them for $7.50 each. So at the sale prices this deal should be $80, give or take a buck.

Normally they are $20 a box. Add shipping to that and the dry box and you break even. If I were to drive to Cabelas it would cost me 6 hours of driving and close to 60. in fuel. Last time I bought thru the mail it cost me $48 including shipping for the AR Tactical, now I'll get 4 boxes and a dry box for $99. For me its worth it.

I take it the $17.99 on the Tactical 22 rounds is in store only? The site still doesn't have it listed as on sale, only the ones with the "free" (yeah right) dry box. If I did my math right, it comes to about $6.60 pre-tax (man I was pi$$ed when they got a Cabelas here in Washington and I had to start payin tax on my orders even though they still ship from across the country) Plus, the Cabelas here isn't all that great, the one I went to in Arizona was way cooler and the Bass Pro Shops there put ANY Cabelas to shame. That place is amazing. Sorry, rant, off topic.

I may just have to break down and get the dry box deal since free shipping would help; but I'd much rather have another box of ammo.

At that price, I can get Mini Mags though....

My 1500 rounds + dry box of the new CCI tactical came in the mail today. Packaged up nicely - lose in 375 count boxes which were inside the dry box with lots of packaging so nothing rattled around. They are 40 grain copper plated round nose 1200 fps. I'll post again when I get a chance to test them.

These were specifically designed for 22ar rifles like the 15-22. I saw someone post about CCI actually using the 15-22 to test these.

the main reason i looked to the tactical instead of the minimag is the lower velocity, which is supossedly going to make it more accurate. you can go even lower velocity with the cci standard, but they are all going to be lead noses, not plated. this is the lowest velocity copper plated bullet for our application by CCI. still waiting to get some results on that.

I'm pretty surprised they didn't do a 36 grain instead of the 40 with the tactical rounds since the CCI 36gr HP's outperform the 40gr Mini Mag. It'll be interesting to see the tactical's up against the 36'ers.

Remember, the 15-22 has a 1:15" twist, which actually should make it better for slightly heavier bullet weights. Most .22LR rifles seem to be 1:16". Whether this is enough of a difference to actually come into play is yet to be seen, but it may have influenced their decision to go with the 40gr. Also, round nose ammo tends to feed smoother in most applications than HP (which is what most 36gr rounds are).

Do let us know how it works out! I agree that unless the Standard Velocity load on the "Tactical" rounds really makes a big difference, for the money Cabela's charges, I might as well purchase 40gr Mini-Mag. I've had no problems with those at all.

Mine came yesterday also. As you said packed nicely, no broken boxes. I need a good Saturday to get out and shoot, so far I've picked up 3,000 rounds of the AR Tactical.

Here are a couple sites that I stumbled across on another forum. They look to be pretty handy in tracking ammo prices and finding the lowest among a number of sites.

gun-deals.com - User-Submitted Gun & Ammunition Deals

AmmoEngine: .22 Long Rifle, Instock For Sale Premium & Discount Ammunition, Ammo Deals

On page 2 of this thread, the CCI 36gr HP's did slightly better than the 40gr Mini Mags at 25 yards. The slightly higher twist rate of 1:15 will help to stabilize the heavier rounds at longer ranges giving them the edge in longer distance accuracy. (less key holing) It'll be interesting to put the three (40gr Mini Mag, 36gr HP Mini Mags and tactical 22) to the test at 25, 50 and 75 yards.

Haha oh man, salt in the wound..

Wholesale Hunter doesn't give refunds for ammo. Great! Can anyone tell me the legalities of selling ammo?
edit: Nevermind, Google knows all! Just to make sure though: Online sale of it is completely legal in CA? No paper work etc.

I picked up a box of Tactical today at the local Cabela's. It was $17.99 + tax.

Will probably hit the range on Monday to see how it does in the 15-22. Would be nice to see accuracy pick up (for once).

I wish I lived closer to our Cabelas to get in on that price. I'd probably buy ten of them, lol.

I have been shooting Winchester bulk 333 packs in my MOE and they work pretty good off the bench. But when plinking rapid fire and running some drills I have been getting a nasty FTF that ends up with the round straight up and wedged forward in the magazine. Hearing all the joy about CCI Blazer bulk RNL I added a pack to a larger online purchase I was making last week of 9 ammo. Went to the range yesterday and tried them out. No hiccups but after about 250 rounds I was shooting a scatter gun. Now I have 9 mags and run them fairly quickly so I do get the barrel hot. The last couple mags before I stopped the smoke from the barrel was clouding up and I was missing the steel plate half the time at 20 yards.
I set it down and went to work with my Glock.
I knew the barrel was fouled but I was blown away by how much. A look down the bore looked like the interior of an Afgan cave it was so rough. I shot some CLP down it and proceeded to drop the bore snake down the barrel and I thought I was going to break the cord it was so hard to pull through. Some lead chunks came out and I grabbed the cleaning rod and a jag and started unleading the thing.
By the time I was done I had enough lead on the bench to form a bullet
I put 375 through it and wont do that again. Good news is no failures. By comparison after 600 rounds of the copper Winchesters I usually run the soaked snake down the bore a couple times and call it done. Nice and shiney.
Maybe I try the Federal HP bulk packs at Wally World and see how that goes but I would rather have a plated round nose solid that is bulk priced.

Good to know Dobie; glad I only shoot copper jacket CCI's. (except for the 100 rounds of Blazers that were a present....boy did my hands get dirty loading those mags, haha). Glad it didn't cause any real problems for you.

Just got back to the range today, got off work early.

I had previosly shot CCI Blazers and they shoot great, they are just a mess to clean up and they leave a million little lead grains in your rifle making your gun gritty.

Today, I shot both CCI min mag 36gr. and 40gr and they both shot well. I actually shot a little better with the 40gr. ones, the 36 had slighter bigger spread. I am no pro though so it could've just been me.

The biggest difference to me is the copper plate on the mini mags. At the end of shooting and stripping it down, I was amazed of how clean it still was and how easy it was to clean.

Even though they may cost more then the blazers and I shot well with the blazers, I will not go back to them. I will pay a little more to have a much cleaner round go through my rifle.

Chad

Shot the 36 grain Federal bulk HP from Wally World today and a much better result than Winchester bulk. Maybe not as accurate off the bench but close and I shot 550 rounds with only two failures. One didnt detonate - on the second try it did. Had a visible strike on the rim the first time. No biggie it happens with bulk 22 ammo. Second failure the bold failed to close completely. Lacked about 1/4 inch from full battery. Reloaded and it fired also. For my needs this may be my go to ammo. I will buy another box from Wally and given equal results go get a case from the net.

Quick question about ammo not firing (I'm a beginner). If it doesn't fire, it's safe to just eject it, turn it around so the hammer can try again? I wait a few seconds to make sure it's not a 'hang fire' and I would toss them in this can at the range. I had quite a few failure to fires in my 525 pack of Blazers my 2nd and 3rd time at the range.

lead ammo will work just fine, but generally becomes much harder to clean out.

Hang Fires are a pretty rare event, I have never witnessed one with modern factory ammo. You hear the click, you look at the bolt and then I eject it pretty quick. In a gunfight you dont wait around. My 15-22 is my cheap trainer for my 556. I always cycle it again unless the round is deformed from FTF or something. If you dont want to, then dont its only a few cents.

Haha I wouldn't either. Yeah, they're definitely cheap but I still don't want to be wasting it if it would fire on the other side of the rim with me putting it back in. I was just taught to wait a while to make sure it isn't one. Like I said, I've been just discarding them and moving on but if it's safe and common to turn it to try to fire again, I will.

Sent 300 rounds down range today! Felt great to finally go out shooting after a 2 week hiatus.200 CCI Mini-Mags & 100 Winchester Super-X, both roundnose. No hiccups at all! The previous two times I had quite a few failure to fire's with my 525 pack of CCI Blazer. I think it was my failure to clean the bolt well? Or a bad box, no clue. I'd get another box anyways

I just picked up 100 rounds of Federal Lightning for 3.18 at Walmart. These any good? If so 550 would be around $18.
