It runs great in my M&P 15/22 and M&P22 pistol. The long, round nose bullet feeds smoothly and the load is very accurate. Unfortunately, it is six cents per round.

I've got a question, I have a 500 round box of "Remington High Velocity 22 Long Rifle" there is no name of, "Golden Bullet, Thunderbolt or Taget 22. So will these work or are they going to have some issues? This is several years old, but still in great shape.

Default Wincheter M22 AMO

Hello everybody – long time reader – long time owner - first time poster .
I need a second opinion on Winchester M22 ammo.
Yesterday I was testing new M22 (from Cabelas – purchased about a week ago) - fired about 300 rounds.
And I’m very disappointed:
1. Ammo was extremely dirty (empty shells sometime half black from smoke!)
2. Ammo sound very inconsistent (almost like “Golden bullets”)
3. Somme bullets in box are very shinny and some brass was spotty.
4. Ejection also was very inconsistent – some cases were dropping on the table some flying 15 feet
Now – my MP15-22 is always clean after every trip to the range.
After that CCI Automatic and Winchester X work just fine.
Temp during target practice was 53-55F
Humidity about 65%
Is that “bad box” of M22 or is that typical for new Winchester M22 product?

It seems the only consistent thing about differant brands of 22 ammo is its inconsistency!

Went to my local indoor range this afternoon, haven't gone shooting in 3-4 weeks so I was pretty rusty with both the 15-22 and the 9mm handgun. I brought a box of this with me, my first time using any federal product:

Shot the entire box of 325, only had a problem with 1-round that kind of freaked me out. On the 9th round out of my 10 round magazine, the shot felt VERY weird. I've only been shooting for a year but this round didn't feel or sound right at all. I think I heard powder hit the lane divider to my right. I thought I got a squib load or the case ruptured? I'm not entirely sure but I assumed it was a squib so I ejected the round but lost it in all of the empty cases of .22lr and 9mm(There was a round on the ground with no primer hit, I guess the bad round's cartridge ejected). Dropped the magazine and locked the bolt back to inspect but couldn't see anything from there. Took it down and there was no bullet in the barrel, just quite a bit of unburnt powder. Nothing wrong with the bolt, extractor n' all. I continued shooting the rest of the box afterwards and all was good. Pretty cool stuff but I kept shooting low with my Magpul MBUS replacement and I wasn't all that good today so can't see how accurate the stuff is all that well. Still a big fan of CCI Blazer, I can get them for $14-16 of the 525 pack frequently.

Anyone know what this would have been? I cleaned my rifle just now(Too lazy to do it the day before) and there was a lot of brown powder inside my trigger group. There's usually some little grains in there but not this much and of this color. I think I noticed the bullet wasn't seated that well. There was a gap, I think. Don't remember how many I noticed like that

Just came back from the range today with my Son and his wife, shot around 450 rounds of CCI Tactical. Zero failures, worked every shot. Nice thing is bolt was very lightly coated with gases blow by. Looks to be very clean powder. Bullets were tight in the casing, no flyers. Fellows I think I found my ammo for life for my M&P... Although we didn't shoot for accuracy, we were training a new member to my family. She is Canadian and never shot before in her life. She had a great day and for a Green (or RED) shooter, she did very well regarding the safety and handling of the many different weapons. I recommend CCI Tactical ammo, give it a try, I don't think you will be sorry.

New mp15-22 black MOE owner. Took it to the range yesterday with Federal American Eagle AE22. Took it strait out of the box, and fired about 300 through it with one failure. Excellent gun.

Default Question on Fed Bulk packs

Does anyone know the difference between the following:

1. Federal Blue box Value Pack Load 745.

2. Federal Red Box Value Pack Load 750.

In all respects they are labeled exactly the same.

They shoot the same through all my .22 rifles and pistols

with very close accuracy for both. For me, there is no decernable

difference.

Thanks.

Regards

After shooting virtually nothing but Federal Champion (745) for the last several years, including about 2k through my 15-22, I bought two boxes of CCI Tactical and went to the range today. The results were somewhat anti-climatic considering all the hype and hoopla over them.

The 750 rounds functioned flawlessly, which is what I expected. The accuracy was good, but not a spectacular improvement over the Federal. Groups at both 25 and 50 yards were slightly smaller and there were only a couple of flyers - good performance over all, but not enough of an improvement in my firearm to warrant the difference in cost - especially considering I have another 8K or so of the Federal on hand.

This only proves one thing: every firearm is a law unto itself when it comes to what flavor of ammo it like to digest best.

Essentially the color of the packaging and the quantity. You see the VP most often at WalMart.

Most folks have had poor results with all Winchester loads except the new M-22. And not to start an argument, but it's a magazine, not a clip. With a couple of specific exceptions no guns use clips - clips hold ammo to be inserted into magazines.

I'm glad your wife had a good time.

I have been shooting for 40+ years and have had a half-dozen .22 rifles during that time. Besides the 15-22 I still have a Ruger 77/22 that I used for silhouette matches for several years. My plinking .22 is a Ruger 10/22. The 15-22 is the most addictive and fun .22 rifle I have ever gotten my hands on. Enjoy your new addiction.

BTW, where in Arizona? I was a kid in Phoenix '49-'51 and Tucson in '51-54. In those days Tucson was about 45,000 and Davis Monthan AFB was 10 miles out of town.

Just remember that Stingers will be the least accurate rounds you can put through the AR15-22.

The FOID card was created in 1968, by the FOID Act, as a way to identify those persons eligible to possess and acquire firearms and firearm ammunition as part of a public safety initiative in the State of Illinois.

I know a lot of people here swear by the Federal 550 pack, and I have had pretty good luck with them too. However, I shot about 300 rds of them last weekend and it seemed like the powder loads were inconsistent or something. Some of the rounds just seemed more quiet than the others. I haven't experienced this with other 22 ammo that I shoot. Has anyone else noticed this with the Federal 550s?

"Bulk" ammo is a collection of mis-match ammo. as in not "match grade", get it?

Your first statement is so much BS. I've shot probably 25k of Federal Champion and never saw any indication that it is in any way "mismatched" ammo. It is simply bulk packaged as it comes off the line, rather than packaged in 50 or 100 round boxes. It's those nice little 100-round plastic boxes that help run up the price.

The second is correct; but no manufacturer is claiming that their bulk pack IS match grade.

It is amazing the amount of BS on the Internet that gets passed around as "fact", especially firearms related.

Agreed

I am not new to firearms and I completely understand what bulk ammo is. I have used other bulk ammo and not noticed this issue. That is the reason I asked the question in the first place.

Overall, the Federals did fine, but hearing a noticeable difference on some rounds was kinda unsettling. Some of them were quiet enough to make me check the barrel.

Overall, the Federals did fine, but hearing a noticeable difference on some rounds was kinda unsettling. Some of them were quiet enough to make me check the barrel.
That is a situation I have never run into. It's quite possible that there was a problem on the line, but those are pretty rare. There are all sorts of quality control measure to keep those things from happening, or at least leaving the factory. but anything's possible.

"BS"?
I intentionaly added a qualifier to my statement for ,,,, well, people of your ability. Ill go slower this time, this may be my fault.

I said "mismatched AS IN not matchgrade". Not mismatched as in some are made of wood and tannerite.

You would need to know just what "match grade" is.
Match grade means they are pretty much all the same weight/lengh/grain/speed and on. Not that they are specifically made, boxxed for your Saturday night grill and lead toss match.

Had you watched the video I posted above you may have had a better understanding of what I posted. May have saved yourself this post.

In the future if you have a comment for me that contains anything on a personal level, such as speaking "BS", feel free to PM me.

It is amazing the amount of BS on the Internet that gets passed around as "fact", especially firearms related.

Considering the fact that I spent probably 20 years doing competitive bullseye shooting and have put many thousand rounds of CCI Greet Tag down range, I do know what constitutes match ammo. I still have about 5k of it on the shelf.

You definition of mismatched is still wrong. Mismatched and not match grade aren't synonymous definitions. Yea I watched the video before I made the comments.

BTW, the only REAL difference between bulk and MOST so-called match grade ammo is simply tighter quality control in production. In all but the very high end Olympic pistols, such as the Hammerlii and the older High Standard Supramatics and S&W 41, the accuracy difference at 25 yards isn't worth the money difference.

At ammo plants, generaly, once a production run of any particular ammo is started it all goes into a bin and from there it goes into a packaging process. The top of the bin is usualy packaged in the 50 rd boxes and the bottom of the bin is bulk packed., Mainly the bulk will show a lot more dings and nics on the bullets..the bottom rounds dropping further and being pummeled around more, otherwise there is no differance between say Fed individual box packed Blazer by the brick or Fed Blazer bulk pac sold at Walley. .............Plum

I put the blame on UPS for both shipments.
I've ordered ammo from Cabelas before without any problems.

Well just got home from the range and have to say this gun is fun to shoot. This was my first time out with it and after dialing in the sights both open and red dot I was shooting some nice groups. I ran 300 rounds of the CCI Tactical 22 with out a hiccup, every round made it down range and where I asked it to go. I had ordered a couple of boxes from Gander and paid $25 a box for and picked up 2 more boxes at my LGS for $26 a box today. Even at this price it is one fun little gun to shoot without breaking the bank.

For those in Connecticut, Hoffman's has CCI tactical for $19.95. Cabela's is getting $24.95.

I am trying to find the thread that talks about how to calculate the trajectory drop of .22lr bullets, or bullets in general. I am trying to find out how much drop to expect at 100 yards and beyond.

One of the easiest to use is the Winchester Ballistics Calculator, referred to in the second thread that ChattanoogaPhil recommended.

S&W forum newbie here. First off, I want to thank all you fine folks for the great reading material you have provided me over the last couple days. I picked up my 15-22 on 2/2/13 at a gun show in Cincinnati. I've ran about 250 rounds through her so far, using only Remington GB's. Unfortunately, that is all I have on hand as .22LR ammo is virtually non existent in my area right now, and I must say, they do not work in my rifle at all. I had approximately 15 FTE's and stovepipes in the first 100 rds alone. My serial number prefix is DYX. Not sure if that's a newer one or not, but the bolt carrier spring is not blue. I found a shop about 20 miles from the house that has CCI Blazer bulk packs and Mini Mags in stock, but the prices are insane. I'm gonna pick up a few of each for now to see how they perform. I'm hoping its just the ammo I'm using as I know the GB's are notoriously bad. I've had bad luck with them in other semi autos as well. I'll let you know how she does with some better ammo and more break in time. Thanks again fellas.

Anthony

Are these the "new and improved" Golden's? I posted in another topic about how well the new Golden's shoot out of my 15/22, to boot they were the most accurate by far between Goldens, M-22 and Federal bulk.

I'm also happy with Goldens with my 15/22 and M&P 22. Several hundred rounds with no problems
