15-22 Paint Scheme
I've been wanting to paint my 15-22 for awhile now and am stuck between two schemes. I used pimp my gun program to make mock-ups with accessories close to my gun and colored them how I want. Cant decide between tan and black or tan and OD. As well which pieces should be which color. I'm doing it mainly for looks and fun not so much practical camo. Help me out!

I like basic black, but your tan/OD looks pretty good.

Here are some tan/black pics I found to ponder over. I'm assuming most of these are airsoft guns from the varied makes and crazy accessorizing.

I dig the tan lower receiver and rail set of the one on bottom here. the one on top with just a stock and rail covers not so much.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...DSC06253-1.jpg
I mostly found black guns with colored grips/stocks/etc or actual used and distressed paint jobs. Should give you some ideas at least.
I've been considering picking up a rattle can and doing something fun as well. I don't think OD would be my choice to two-tone with tan though. Too many things either need to be left black like the area near lens covers on optics. It could be done, but I don't think it would turn out as clean as tan/black.
Edit:
Here's my quick attempt, but the tan would most likely be brighter. I crudely covered a lot of the ejection port, forward assist, and shell deflector to try and get closer to the 15-22 appearance. Didn't choose a magazine (I do wish the 15-22 mags looked better).

Pimp My Gun (beta)
Rustpot, thanks for the examples man. I dig the contrast of the black and tan so I'm going with those colors. Also using black as a color means less painting cuz everything is already black. I used ur example and fixed my rail size to look more 15-22 ish. Too lazy to delete forward assist and shorten ejection port haha. I got it narrowed down to two schemes just got to make up my mind:
I want to use the same color this gun has for the tan parts. Its made by Rustoleum and the color is Satin Oregano (actually half way between tan and OD). Its cool being able to fart around with designs on the cpu to get an idea before spraying ur gun haha.

Painting is done, here is a sneak peek:
I baked the paint real good with a hanging hair dryer for an hour now I just need to let it air dry for about 24 hours and I'll put it all together and take some pics.

What kind of paint do you use to put on the polymer? On aluminum (optics)? And is it pretty rugged or does it wear off easily?

I second that. Hopefully you wont have to repaint your gun ever so often to keep the overall look to it. I used krylon camouflage paint on my stock. Once it was baked and fully cure it was a good match to the Magpul dark earth colors I have on my rifle. The paint so far is very durable, with only the occasional scratch. So far man that paint scheme looks very nice. Congrats!

I used Rustoleum brand paint. Supposed to be strong but takes a long time to cure. I have it at my girlfriends house cuz thats where all my tools are. About to cruise over there now and see if its cured up enough to assemble and take some pics. I baked to parts for like 3 hours under a hair dryer last night so hopefully they arent tacky anymore. Wish my black rail ladders would arrive in the mail already, the contrast of them is gonna look sweet. As far as durability goes I'm actually happy either way, I actually think it looks cool in a way when I wear my painted guns a little cuz I'm out having fun with em. They start looking like Bobba Fett's helmet haha.

Still a little too tacky for my taste to put furniture on it, irons are just resting on. When its all decked out I'll take some pics in better lighting with my better camera (these are just phone pics)or out in the sun because the color isnt quite the same in the pics as it really is. I'm happy with the outcome though. Think I'm going to do the crayon trick too and make all the writing on the gun black. Oh yea, stole my girlfriends workstation the take the pics, that stuff in the background isnt mine I swear!!

Hopefully it doesn't look so puke-green in better light!
Great job on the paint, just not a color I would have chosen.

Man, the girlfriend was talking about how much she like shooting my 15-22 and joked about getting one if MagPul made pink rail covers...
This might just handle Christmas if I get a properly girled out rifle.

Yea the camera made it look alot lighter than it really is. Baby poop yum yum haha. In person its closer to the stock color of a Arctic Warfare magnum sniper rifle. Now I'm debating if I want to add some more black to it or not. Have to see how the black rail ladders make it look..cuz right now I think there is too much greeen. What you guys think?

It looks much better now, at least IMO.
I just finished applying duracoat to mine tonight. I went with more of a magpul FDE and it came out great. I've got it baking in the shop for the next 48 hours and then I'll re-assemble.
I'm interested to see how the rustoleum holds up. I've always duracoated my guns, but I've had a few friends that went the krylon / rustoleum route and it didn't hold up well. I use CLP a little too liberally at times to worry about it taking my paint off.

Oh yea I know its not going to hold up like duracoat will. I know a few guys who duracoated their stuff and its tuff. I'll try and keep everyone posted on how the rustoleum holds up but I know I'm gonna scrape it up doing drills and run-n-guns out in the desert. But I'm twisted enough to actually think a beat up gun looks cool in a way. If I'm not scraping paint off I'm not having enough fun! lil tape 2 shakes and a spray and its back haha. I wanna see how yours turns out take some pics when you get it together for sure!

Nice looking rifle, but...
If you were only going one color, I would have used alumihide from brownells (available in a rattle can), or duracoat (requires an airbrush). Both are much more resistant to cleaning solvents than rustoleum.

All the painted surfaces are polymer. I don't hit them with cleaning solvents. The way I use my gun no matter what paint I use its gonna get physically beat up haha. All of our windows and barricades we shoot out of are made out of cinderblocks. A little black showing through the paint will just make it look more camo right? I'll try and keep posted on how the rustoleum holds up. If you want to keep your gun looking show-room ready duracoat is the strongest I've seen. I just dont have easy access to an air compressor at the moment because all my tools are in storage at the moment.

Maybe someone should have their CNC machine whittle us up some fake forward assists that we can epoxy to the upper... maybe with a secret hidden storage compartment

Ive been after some type of forward assist for this rifle since I first saw it last year lol. I mean if its meant to be a AR training weaopn.. why not have all the same features? Functional or not.. even the Colt has the bolt catch.. even though its non fucntional.. its still there.

Agreed... although some kind of functionality would be nice... perhaps if every time you pushed the assist it ejected a PEZ(tm) candy !! mmmmmmm.

Hey Scuds, what program did you use to create the rifle design? I've played with the AR Builder on the Brownells site, but it doesn't really look that flexible. Thanks!
