Definately wasn't my writeup but I copied everything he did. The only part I ordered online was the nichrome wire. Everything else came from home depot (2x4 wood, aluminum rod, dimmer switch) and small town hardware stores. Got the same transformer from radio shack too. I probably spent about $30 when all said and done, way cheaper than the preassembled ones.

I'm gonna get a Pelicase 1720 in a few weeks, I can get a discount of 25% via work. But it's still expensive, but i think its worth it.

did you buy that $15 one? I might get it as a temporary until i get my scope sighted in and adjusted to the right eye relief position. that way i won't have to cut up my foam in the hardcase until i know i've got it where i want it and il be able to go to and from the range in the cheaper bag.

I bought this one for my 15-22:
UTG Ultimate Combat Weapons Rifle Gun Case with 3 Detachable Side Pockets Nylon - MidwayUSA
I got the olive drab 42" and I love it, it's a great tactical rifle case. I was considering the Midway Pro series tactical case, but there were a lot of people complaining about ripped stitching and broken zippers.

Just picked up the Plano Protector Series Double Gun Case on Amazon. For only 24.99 plus free shipping, I went for it. My 15-22 fits easily with optics attached.
It's cheap, sure, but it's really about all I need.

I like the Pelican cases too, but spending half what the gun cost me is not in the cards anytime soon... If I ever get the Accuracy International .308 I've been trying to find, then the Pelican will definitely be my mode of transport.

Pelican 1720
I like the 1720 pelican case, bit heavy, great for travel.
The other picture I was messin around. Wondering if two rifles would fit, It is possible if uppers and lowers were seperated one from the other but all could be fitted, looked cool too.
Second picture MP15/22 and MP15 does not reflect the two in one orientation.

15-22 case
I found a black nylon, padded, heavy zippered, with nice pulls
at Cabala's.
It's called Cabala's Tactical and it measure 35 inches. I put the 15-22 in it and collapse the stock and it's perfect. It's wide enough to fit the gun in it with optics.
Then I found a Smith and Wesson M & P black and gray square patch on e-bay for 7.00, Mrs. mra sewed it square and lined up onto the exterior of the flat zippered pocket. Next to the pocket is 4 mag pockets with better than average Velcro closures. It comes with an adjustable carry strap. It is cabala's, their name is on it and in very light print all over the soft interior. I'm guessing Bull dog made it for them, just a guess.
I think I paid 39.00 for it. It now looks like Smith put it together.
I have the 18.00 Midway case for my Bushy AR. Works great for the money.
See if you can find the cabala's case, I highly recommend it, it does have a finer quality to it over Midways.

I had one and they are quite sturdy but lost one of the latches on the first trip. Also found it to be a little bulky and didn't fix in place I could fit two single cases. Now I have a Flambeau double rifle case which is easier to carry but is 1/2" too long to fit in the trunk of my "midsized" car.
I carry my 15-22 in a short Allen case which just barely fits my rifle with the stock collapsed. I like its compact size and the fact that it has a shoulder sling so that you can carry it and have both hands free to carry other gear.

I just picked up a Condor 36" double-rifle case for my 15-22 and soon-to-arrive AR15. Really nice for $80. Really, really nice. Picked it up from my local range, but you can see it here:

I just bought the Voodoo Tactical 42" Padded Weapons Case. It can pack to AR's along with two handguns. Has plenty of pockets and comes with shoulder straps to backpack to the range. I picked it up used on Ebay. On the voodoo site it's about $95.00.

bat bag conversion
Not sure if a Mossberg counts as a secondary weapon, but it fits in the bat pouch all snug like. And I have 13 magazines in the front pocket all flat against the side.

That is awesome!
1. I just bought the Midway USA tactical gun case, on sale for $18. MidwayUSA Tactical Rifle Gun Case with 6 Pockets - MidwayUSA
But I'm feeling jealous, frustrated, um... cheated maybe is a good one; that I did not think of that... and a Mossberg is a great secondary weapon IMO

I use a soft Padded guitar case. It protects the gun enough, and since its in the guitar case, it doesn't scream gun. its got a strap and it has a big pocet here i keep 4 extra magazines. I got mine used, from a friend but i know there alot cheaper than a gun case and it also doubles as camoflauge.

Same, paid $85 for mine at a recent gun show. Oh well for me, but a great deal for those in the market. I got the 42" and it does a great job with packing 2 rifles, a M&P15-22 and a LWRC M6A2. The 36" version would of been a snug fit for my 16.1" barrel AR and didn't like that idea. The 42" version can also accommodate a Ruger 10/22 (37" overall length) or a shotgun.

yeah jubz i got the 42" also and it seemed too long for for my 995ts. and the 15-22 (if im correct, if not please correct me by all means) is 30" with the stock fully collapsed and 37" fully extended. i didnt like the loose fit. but that is just me. so i ordered the 36" and hopefully it will be just what im looking for. If in the future i get a longer gun ( and we all know that will happen) then hey that gives me another reason to get another case. As it is i have an extra red dot and im trying to convince my better half that i need another gun to go under it... so far no luck.

If you really want to treat yourself to a nice case.
Check out Americase. They are in Waxahachie Texas. They have a good website. I have a couple of their pistol cases and a couple of their rifle cases as well. I do not think that you can top them.

Or, get your wife into shooting. I did, she loves it and now we're both getting gear. She's getting more into "black rifle" gear which I get to play with!

I prefer my eagle discreet 32 inch, 4 mag pocket inside, large outside. It has straps to hold the rifle in place plenty of roon for an optic. I have a Strikefire with high mount.
Natchezz has them on sale occasionally, I bought 2 last time for less than $30 each. I also have a 35 LEO version and a pelican case that will fit 2 of any of the three at a time and lock for travel.

Hard vs. Soft rifle cases
I thought that I wanted a hard case for both storage and transport. Prior to getting a case, I talked to SKB customer service, and they said that their hard cases are designed for travel, not storage.
They convinced me that a soft case was better for storage. No stale air and possible moisture trapped in the case.
I also called Allen, and they said the same thing.
So, I ended up with a 36" soft tacticle case that works great.
If in doubt, call the manufacturer, to see what they have to say.

My first soft case was Uncle Mikes Rifle Assult Bag. Very durable and tons of storage. Another case for traveling is the Discreet Carbine Take Down Case from Cheaper Than Dirt. Full on Secret Squirrel!!

Blackhawk sportster tactical cases are nice. all mags fit the pockets proper and will hold scoped guns with whatever else you have a lil over 50$ but compared to the allen I got for one that I gave away a WORLD OF MO BETTER QUALITY!
I have the same case also for my .223
