M&P 15-22 Barrel Threading
I just took the barrel off my 15-22 and I have a co-worker with a machine shop that is going to put 1/2"-28 threads on the end so I can install a DPMS flash hider I have ordered from Midway. My question is, how much of the end of the barrel do I want to have threaded? I looked over the forum threads and that is one bit of info I didn't see. I did see talk about having the muzzle recrowned after threading though, is this necessary?
Thanks.....................

on a 15-22 .625 is the norm. ar-15s have less length around .5 usually.. i put .625 on them and recrown the barrel this needs to be done because of the factory recessed crown is allmost the same dia. as the .5 threads and that leaves a thin lip that can be very easily damaged... make sure that he indicates the bore of the rifle in not the o.d.
if I can help in any other way let me know

What's the cost for threading a plain barrel? At the time I bought the rifle, threaded barrel, i.e. Flash hider was almost unavailable. Want to suppress.

$65 at Adco. If you were to get a Sparrow, have them thread with O-ring engagement.

This is the lip that BeltFed is speaking of. I don't have an issue because I am not using my rifle without the suppressor but I can see how it could easily get damaged. Have the machinist get rid of the lip.

you can use the search function this has been covered many times but basicly you need a special tool which can be bought or even made.. one nut holds the barrel in and forarm on

I was a new owner of this rifle in January of this year. I spent about an hour each night for about a week reading and skimming thru the majority of the posts on this forum and learned a lot.
Spend some time reading, and you will be glad you did. Especially read thru the stickies and watch the videos for good explanations of how to work on the gun.
Get the barrel wrench. It is $20, and worth every penny.
Buy extra magazines when they go on sale. Have at least six, IMO. Ten would be better.

I thread S&W15/22 barrels almost weekly. I set up a service which includes removing the barrel from the upper, threading, re-crowning and then reassembling the upper as a standard package price.
Full details are on my website 22BARRELS.COM HOME

You might want to post this service in the classified adds. The post will stay visible, rather than scrolling away.
Thanks for the information.

IIRC you should have 5/8" of thread on the barrel.

If there's a flash hider it's threaded.
