Default Magazine Load Assist Buttons?

Hey guys, I just picked up a 15-22 and two extra 10-rd mags. None of the mags have load assist buttons. Does anyone know where I can purchase just the buttons because my fingers are damn sore. Oh, and I live in the communist state of MA

You'd definitely have to email or call Smith & Wesson if they can send/sell you one cause I'm sure no one else has them. A suggestion I know is to get the metal hook of a hanger and run it through the blue part of the mag(near the spring, forgot the term for the blue thing) and that'll help you out. I just do the way Brett248Vista recommended in one of his videos: I hold the round so it's perpendicular to the round already sitting and make it press down then slide it right in! It was tricky for me at first but now it's soo easy, fast and no thumb problems whatsoever

I just used a small bolt, 2 washers and the appropriate nut with some blue locktite on the threads. Works just fine, only costs about a dime, available almost anywhere.

saprengr13 - It's no use getting the load assist buttons from S&W because you can't install them in the 10 round long mags anyway. The pin they use to restrict the capacity will not allow you to get the follower down far enough to insert the button. Best thing is the nut & bolt, it works for me in restricted CA.

If you can only own 10 round magazines, why not try the short 10 round magazines. They are much more "friendly" for numerous reasons if you can only have a 10 round capacity. I think the 25 round sized 10 round clips are a waste of space if you can only have 10 rounds. That is why I went with these handy things.

Oh yea, and they come with a LOAD ASSIST BUTTON.

For me, I dig the look of the 10/25 ones (wish we could have 25, though!) and they cost the same as the shorties so no loss there. I'll end up with at least 2 short mags for bench resting it, though.

I've loaded lots of different mags and these are very easy to load. +1 for not needing the load assist.

I called S&W about 3 months ago about this and they said the button would not work on the 10/25 mags, but I asked if the guy would send me two of the buttons anyway so I could try for myself and he said, "Sure." That was 3 months ago---nothing. Even if they didn't work, the least he could have done was told me flat out NO, but instead he said he would send them and never did.

Buy the shorty 10s or move to a state that allows the 25s.

the buttons i got from s&w seem to fit the short 10 rd, and the 25 rd mag. i'd imagine they fit the long 10 rd too.. it took a little over 3 months before i got mine.

i just spotted this on ebay.

Smith and Wesson MP15-22 Magazine Loading Tool - NEW!! | eBay

seems a bit not necessary, but it's one way to get some spare buttons, and they are metal! (i've broken 1 plastic one already)

Magazine follower button missing. S&W service rep advised it was left out deliberately. I asked for replacement buttons. She said they had none and to contact Magpul, their supplier. Had to talk to a supervisor, but they are shipping me 2 buttons. There are 2 was to install said buttons. In a free state, remove the pin blocking the follower and lower the follower all the way and the button will pop in. In a slave state, remove the follower and spring, drill a 3/8 inch hole through the mag body just above the pin and centered on the vertical opening, reinstall the spring, follower and buttplate, then install the button. You are simply duplicating the hole at the bottom of the vertical opening just above the pin. The supervisor advised me that the buttons were in stock and that I should have them in 2 weeks.

Thanks for confirmation Majorlk. I guess Mathew needed the buttons regardless. I think the Raveneye replacements are leagues ahead of those plastic oem ones.

I just installed the Raveneye buttons the other day. I got the blue ones and they have a nice finish on them.

Maybe is an assembly thing. They cant get the button in due to the order of assembly steps and the pin.

Seems logical to me. With the 10 round short & the 25 round long, the spring is under maximum tension when the magazine is fully loaded. That makes pushing in the final few rounds quite difficult without the load assist buttons. With a 10 round long, which has the exact same spring as the 25 round long, the spring is nowhere near fully compressed after only 10 rounds. Guess S&W figured there was no need for assistance in loading only 10 rounds in such a long magazine designed to hold 25.

Wonder if Promag would sell them? I pulled one out of a Promag mag, and stuck it in a 10 round long mag and it works just fine. Since they can't sell the mags anymore because of the lawsuit, maybe they can sell mag parts.

Default 15-22 Mags

I live in a state that is not looking to limit my rights to own 25 round mags. But the only ones being produced appear to be pinned at 10.
And I'm sure many others on here have signed S&W's petition to stop the present round of gun control. In this light I find it disingenuous of them to only produce the 10 round mags and not offer us the full 25. Yes I know how easy the conversion may be, but the load assist does come into its own on the 25 round mags (I own several).
The company response is "they are not needed in the 10 round and with the pin in place don't work" I would suggest if the address is in a non control state good business would suggest this may not be the correct response.

I don't fully understand the long 10 round magazines myself....why bother? The short 10 rounders work great and they have the load assist, I'm not sure why S&W makes the long ones anyway and if they do they should figure out how to put a button in there.

I can make a case for S&W making 10 round longs to sell on states that limit capacity. If I lived in one, I'd buy them in case I moved to a free state later or the law got repealed. Then I'd convert them.
