Default SHOOTING GAMES

OK a lot of other forums have this so I figured we needed our own. I want this to be a "games that rednecks play" kinda thing. I've posted vids in the past of our "run and gun" courses we have set up with metalic targets. And I've seen some pretty cool pics of really inventive games to play or targets that others have posted..

Id like for everyone to post atleast one "game" or "target" they use or have come up with.. I love trying new thing and it makes it interesting to change it up a bit

Ill start this off with a "game" I started for my wife to get better and more comfee with a firearm.
For this you will need a pack of water balloons, some flour, a cheap balloon pump, and some sting or stapler

1st take a balloon and add a small amount of flour(teaspoon) I use a small funnel for this(not needed)
2nd use the pump to inflate and then tie off the balloon
3rd use the string or stapler to attach the ballons to where they r to be shot at different ranges

My wife has started using my suppressed marlin 980s with bipods and optics to pop these out to 150 yds. She gets to work on the basics.. there is no ? If the balloon was hit. Me and friends do the same thing only we set them way out there (200-300 yds) so that wind comp comes into play.

you mean to tell me with 109 views no one has any new target ideas or things that they do at the range to keep it interesting.. we have new members all the time that are new to the sport. And Im sure would love ideas for cheap targets like golf balls that you can chase around cause they move everytime you hit them.

Paintballs on golf tees. Different color for each shooter.
Steel spinner targets.
Dueling Trees. First shooter with all the targets on their side looses.
Or the shooter at the end of the magazines with the most targets on their side looses. Way different tactics between those two.
This could be fun and infuriating with two shooters YouTube - Impact-22 Rolling Steel Target

I have shot for years never shot at golf balls thanks for the info. I shoot at steel spinners mainly, cans tied on strings suspended in the air. Silhouttes, things floating in the water.

Well, Tannerite is always fun. We fill up two liter bottles with water. Looks cool when hit. We've taken old electronics and hung them by the power cord, then set them to swinging. Mannequins were also fun, they are just hard to come by.

OK here are a few games we play at our .22 fun shoots.

We shoot clothes pins off a target board, the key is aim for the spring. We have golf balls with eye bolts dangling from steel rods and a good hit will spin the ball multiple times around the rod. In a game for the semi autos we pound a few 1x2s or 2x4s in the ground and then the first person to cut one in half wins. We also have a large cable spool on a motor that has balloons as targets. Eggs, mothballs, neco wafers, ritz crackers and small battue clays all make good reactionary targets. We also have plenty of steel gongs. all these targets are set between 50 and 100 yards. Also with golf balls you start at 20 yards and the first person to get one out to the 100 yard marker wins. We also use a myriad of paper target games and try to mix it up for fun.

I'm trying to drum up interest in a Rimfire Tactical Precision Match, but most guys at the fun shoots don't want to get too serious and take the fun out of the Fun Shoots.

Scrap chunks of wood that are light enough to be moved by a 22, but will stand several hits. Start it close and try to hit the bottom or just under it. Each hit will also push it farther away from you and make the next shot more difficult.

Shotgun hull sitting on top of a pine cone sitting on top of a soda can. Try to hit the three in order from the top down.

Staple up a target. Try to take the target down by shooting out the staples.

My friends and I have always talked about shooting glow sticks at night from 100-200 yards. Have not done it yet, but I think an ammunition cap would be good.

not really with the 15-22 but i like shoooting at eggs at 300 yards. i dont know what it is about an egg that makes it hard/fun to shoot.

Fill up water balloons and poke a pinhole in them, shoot it before it goes dry.

My roommate works for radio shack, and every January he brings home all the rc cars that people return. All the used ones are normally sent to the dumpster, but shooting a fast target that your buddy is driving is a wonderful rare treat.

We use a softball and 2 .22's. Throw the softball out onto the ground 20-30 yards in front of you. Then you can your friend dual with the ball seeing how can knock it back the furtherest faster. its quiet fun and softballs are VERY resistant to 22LR. hardly damages them

Targets: frozen water balloons, xmas decorations, expired canned food, shaving cream, "Happy Meal" toys, beer bottles (what's more redneck than that?).

Built a dueling tree out of 2x4s. Basically a post w/ a "foot" to keep it standing. Nails sticking out of each side to hold the bottles/cans. Loser cleans up and sets up the next round.

H-O-R-S-E: Place multiple targets at the same distance (or pick which ring of the paper target you want). Shooter 1 calls his shot, makes it; Shooter 2 has to complete the same shot or get a letter. Shoot from various distances, off-hand, off-eye, one-leg, standing, sitting, backwards w/ a mirror over the shoulder, etc. Loser cleans up.

Not a superb idea to be shooting into water. Those lil .22's like to skip right off. As the box says "dangerous up to a mile"...I like to account for each of my shots. Just a thought, do as you chose.

Have fun and be safe.

Smokeless tobacco cans make pretty good targets. I don't dip, but I get all my friends who do to save their cans.

We've been having a lot of fun lately with paper targets of billiard balls. If we have 2 people we play 8-ball, if we have 3 we play cut-throat.

Last Sat we were drivin' around the ranch shootin' pasture poodles with .22 revolvers.
http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/...#post136081814

WYO from this forum got several doubles and triples.

Dogs would sit right there and he would pick'm off slicker than whistle.

I din't do quite as good as he did. Ol Dave (Keith44special) and Ben was bringin' up the rear and takin' care of the ones that gathered for the funerals of the ones Jeff and I got.

Targets was cheap and ranges varied from 10 to 100 yards.

All in all, we had a purty good time.

i save every empty gallon of milk that gets consumed at my house and take them to my range from time to time, filled with water, and turn them inside-out with various calibers.....its also fun in the winter to fill the clear milk jugs with water and food coloring and set them out about 200-300 yards and watch the colored water splatter all over the snow

Two-minute Torture Drills, for those of us who are cardio-inclined: Two-Minute Torture Drill

2 minutes
50 yds
3 targets spread, 25' apart
2 barricades with holes to shoot through 18" off ground (left, right targets), center is kneeling ( 1 or 2 knees)
1 bullet per target, per string

Fire 1 bullet at each target on a string (run), then run back to first target and rinse, lather, repeat until 2 minutes runs out. How many hits? Article says 17 is a good score.

This sounds awesome. If nothing else I'm taking some of these ideas next time I go to the range.

Put dollar bills in old water bottles. $1 per bottle. Shoot the bottle, win the money. Great to get my kids to focus.

We also shoot alot of steel, balloons, and just plain paper. There are a few "games" I've seen here I'm definitely going to try.

we picked up one of these handy little box targets...CheaperThanDirt.com has them (Reactive "Hot Box" Bouncing Target) for $20...it makes a good reactive target but we have also placed other targets on top of it and drilled a hole in it to suspend it under the steel frame for the paper targets

another idea we had (until the local DNR range banned it) was a simple 4'x4' sheet of plywood with nails in it to hang orange sporting clays on...great reactive targets but also sparked a lil wagering ( 17HMR FMJs will punch a clean hole in one without cracking it!)

a favorite is old toys/stuffed animals placed on a stake for the kiddos...

AS ALWAYS WE MAKE SURE WE REMOVE THE LEFTOVERS~

ummm... JEALOUS!!! That's pretty dang awesome dude. You guys should consider tying balloons to them before totally obliterating the cars, get more use out of 'em over an afternoon!

Golf balls were mentioned, and I gotta say those are a favorite of mine. I don't drink much hard liquor, but I save any empty nips from friends and family when I can, cuz I love shooting the little bottles with any caliber, they explode, but usually aren't glass. I even use old pyrodex and 777 containers once they're completely empty. TANNERITE is AWESOME!!! Wish I could afford as much as I'd like to shoot! I save all coffee cans and plastic pretzel containers and such, great targets. My girlfriend is a hairdresser, so every now and then she'll retire one of her mannequin practice heads, and we get to blast it full o' holes Cheap shaving cream makes for very fun skeet shootin if your buddy has a good throwing arm. Same for cheap beer/soda when on sale.

My favorite game so far: We call it 'clean-up.' Two shooters, each has a shotgun (pump preferred, but to keep it fair both shooters should have the same action-style). Each shooter only has two rounds. Two clays on the launcher, or two people with hand held launchers. Which ever clay goes left belongs to the shooter on the left, clay that goes right is the shooter's on the right. If you hit your clay, you can then go for the competitor's clay. Sounds easy, but guys get so excited about beating the opponent that sometimes they'll miss their own on the first shot! You can keep score and set the required limit to victory, and place bets as seen fit it's pretty fun and simple enough.

My game is "redneck bowling". We get old used bowling pins from the local bowling alley, set them up just like at the lanes at about 75 yards, 2 shots is what you get to get a strike, 3 shots total for a spare. Scores just like the real game. First to 300 wins. Fair warning, this can be an all day game.

Its a binary explosive material. This means it is created by combining two totally inert chemical compounds. They are safe and legal to ship separately. Once combined it is poured into a container, can be water bottles, cans, smokeless tobacco containers, etc. When shot with a high velocity projectile you get a nice BOOM! I go to machine gun shoots occasionally and it is a common target of opportunity. Makes for a very pleasing addition to the already pleasurable atmosphere!

NOTE: 22lr won't detonate it, but I believe .22 mag and up will.

Try it, you WILL like it! Also, I believe if you check out You Tube you can find a video or two.........

i get the pins, and just try to damage them. those things are indestructible. a week ago i had one out, and was wailing on it with 7.62x54 steel core rounds and barely made a dent, and i didn't stop once it fell, i kept tagging it on the ground making it spin and go all over the place. in the end it had some dents and bulges, and i actually found an intact round sticking out. those things take some serious abuse.

A sheet of plywood, a bucket of paint balls, and a tube of liquid nails makes a fun target for any firearm. Put some glue on the board in long straight lines and start sticking paint balls on it. You can bust out the shotgun and some bird shot to finish up the ones you missed.

one of our favs, we took a 1x6 laid it flat and nailed small trim nails in one side every 5". hold the 1x up with a saw horse on each end and han those old time safety pop suckers with the loop stick in them from the nails. We shoot at them from all sorts of lengths. Cheap and fun for everyone.

Default tire target

Piece of cardboard to fit inside a used tire. target stapled to that. Have someone SAFELY out of the way roll the tire, (or down a hill to the right or left if you're lucky), and shoot as it rolls across in front of the shooter. Can be very enlightening!

I used to do this with a pellet gun back in CT. On a windy/breezy day let balloons fly around or attach fishing line to them so they don't go too far and its a nice erratic moving target

I just like to find old junk with gas or electric motors for super cheap, set them running, then shoot em till they dont no more. Best one so far was a beat up ride on mower we got for $20 on craigslist. Put it out in a really wide clearing and started it running across..jumped in the truck and drove 200m out and tried to stop it..took quite a few attempts with various 22LR ammo. Kill shot went through the side and took the magneto out. It was riddled all over pretty good before it died. Totally worth the $20.
