Honestly, unless you're dragging your rifle through the mud crawling on your belly, a dust cover really doesn't do anything. The bolt is normally closed so nothing big can get in there and the bolt itself has space between itself and the upper so minor dirt won't make it hang up either. With what we do with these rifles, it's really just for looks. It's just one more thing to fall off or break.

It is held in place by a magnet, as soon as the bolt cycles it opens up. There was video one member posted somewhere on the forum showing his rifle firing with the cover closed, the cover opens quickly enough to allow the spent casing to eject safely.
