Default survival gun

Anybody got something like the M26 MASS???
I think this attachment would make the M&P15-22, about the perfect survival gun. Light weight, cheap ammo, hang stuff anywhere, kill anything close!!!
Carry space in the hand grip, carry space in the butt, and carry space in the fore grip.
Are there any legal 12Ga's for us???

Man that would be sweet! I'm not sure what the shortest legal shotgun barrel length is here in NY, I think it's something like 18" or perhaps 16". But yeah, it would make it the coolest .22 out there.

Default Sorry Fellas...

The minimum legal length for a shotgun (without NFA stamps) under Federal Statute is 18"... the M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun is 7 3/4"..

I know they have rifle/shotgun combos but those are typically single shot right? I am wondering about the legality of perhaps a situation like the older "Masterkey" system? It would seem that rigging something similar would indeed be possible if SHTF, but it doesn't seem like it would be legal for civilian use.

If you went through the paperwork and legalities to acquire one, an underbarrel shotgun attachment would work great on your 15-22. For one shot. Then you'd be looking for a new 15-22...

it would certainly 'look cool'...and be extremely heavy...and inaccurate...and destroy your rifle...and be illegal...hmmmm suddenly this seems like a REALLY bad idea

ya, i will stick to using my rifle as-is...and carry a nice pistol instead

So I got to thinking about using the 15-22 as a survival rifle and then I got an idea. I'm not sure if anyone on this board has already had this idea but I made up a small survival kit that fit into the hollow buffer tube of the rifle. It was enough space for me to get a few water/wind proof matches, a striker for them, about 15 feet of fishing line, some hooks, a weight, a few water purification tablets and a a couple cotton balls to use as tinder and help pack the kit tight into tube.

Not only have I had the same idea, I'm taking it a step farther. I have my 1" quick release flashlight holder, and a 12" piece of aluminum tubing. I'm going to pick up a couple of pvc caps to fit the tubing or some aluminum caps if I can find them to fit and construct a removable survival can to mount to one of the side rails. Not sure if I'll paint the tube to match my OD Green stock or desert tan to match the furniture. I think it will be a cool addition and useful on those atv plinking trips. I'll post some pics as soon as I complete the survival can. Hopefully I'll finish it this weekend.

A rail mounted kit sounds great, I definitely will have to look into that myself. All the extra storage would really open up possibilities for a great functioning kit.
