Has anyone added weight to MP15-22?
Hi there!
I am running a 6920 with an R1 and sopmod and a AR15-22 with aimpoint micro the same height. The smith is great and mirrors my m4 except for weight. It is considerable lighter. Was wondering if anyone added weight to the smith to mimic a duty rifle?
Ideas on how to go about it?
thanks
angel

I always thought the light weight was one of its best features.
Weigh it down, huh?
Get a trapdoor MOE pistol grip and fill it with lead, maybe?

angel,
i wanted to get the weight closer to the "big brother gun" also. i talked with tacticool about having an extra long barrel nut made up that would be as long as possible but still be covered under the stock 15-22 quad rail...the cost was prohibitive for the weight that was gained.

They make lead tape to add weight to tennis racquets. I imagine you can get a few rolls of this and line the inside of your handguard and pistol grip until you get the desired weight, and it should allow you to have the weight evenly distributed. I think each roll is only $3 or $4 and weighs about a pound.

The receiver extension is hollow, it just has a cap over it you need to pry off. Try adding some ballast in there. Try adding a heavier stock as well. As previously mentioned add weight into the pistol grip too.

Solid alum bar drill thru hole. Slide on barrel inbetween hand rail. Drill holes along length to reduce weight as needed. Might pull heat off barrel as well.

This is very easy to do! Most want the lite weight, but to go heavy is easy.
Buy a forgrip that has storage. Fill it with near diameter steel round bar. Also the hand grip can be filled with whatever, and capped. The fake buffer tube is emepty, so fill it with another piece of round bar.Doing this will add ~ 3 lbs.
Hang every thing else you can buy on the rails; buy big!
I think it would be very easy to havea ~ 12 lbs rifle.
If steel round bar is to heavy, try brass.
I am trying to keep mine under 8 lbs.

i just pulled the plastic plug on the buffer tube, poured in some lead shot followed by some liquid epoxy. Balances a little better. Store my extra red dot batteries in the grip so no storage in the tube is no big deal.
