Default Preferred Sight

Hi everyone, been hanging around these forums for a long time and got my 15-22 a few weeks ago for a graduation present. I've really enjoyed the gun and have already begun to deck it out but I am still in need of a good sight. I am rather new to guns in general and have always used iron sights, so I am in need of tips for what I should look for in a good scope/red dot.
Obviously some high dollar Aimpoints and EOTechs are a little out of the question but I still want to hear everyone's opinion, I have a LOT to learn.

have the m4 by primary arms and love it. I also have their 3x magnifier in front of it on the flip to side mount.

The rifle comes with sights!

Zero the rifle and shoot 500 or 1000 rounds before you start to dick with accessorize it.

Although there is consensus that a "dot sight" is the most accurate and preferred, there is no complete consensus as to which is the best "dot sight." The Army has type classified the Aimpoint CompM and later versions as the M68 Close Combat Optical sight and it's an excellent choice and my preferred dot sight.

I have an Aimpoint clone on my M&P15-22 setup to mimic the way the M68 CCO is on my M4 Carbine. Works quite well although the clone optics are dimmer than the real thing. Dot is fine, the optics are not crystal clear on the clone.

Positioning the optical sight so you can look thru the irons and the sight at the same time is referred to co-witnessed. Usually requires a riser mount on the optical sight.

Thanks for all the replies. I plan on doing a lot of shooting with the iron sights before I decide to shell-out the cash for a nice optic. I just want to get some ideas of what to keep an eye out for when I'm shopping around.

i plan on putting a couple of the Primary Arms sights on mine once they get settled. Going to do the micro dot on one and the DMS 4x on the other. will post once i get some results...though from what i hear the Primary Arms route is a good way to go for the 15-22.

I have the Primary Arms M2 on mine. In fact, I have a Primary Arms red dot (both wear MicroDots, and one is a Gen3, and the other is a Gen8) on both of my big ARs as well.

We are up to two of Primary Arms' m3 dots, one on daughter's 15-22 (with their 5x magnifier) and one on my M4gery. Ordering their M4 for our upcoming flattop assembly

I have been really happy with my Truglo 40mm Red/Green dot sight (# TG8030DB) for about $60-$70.

I have a Walther red dot on mine, that I got at Midway. I like that the dot sits right on top of the front sight post. I haven't had it long but today I got 21 out of 25 in the 1" circle at 75 ft, and I expect it to improve with practice. With my eyes, that's about the limit for a non magnified sight.

i picked up a reflex sight on cloe-out at my local scheels...4 different reticles and easy as can be to sight in...added the Magpul MBUS sights designed for airsoft guns as a backup and for the extra neat factor

so far it is much more accurate at mid to close range than a simple reddot and it is a hoot to shoot at 'reactive' targets

Aimpoint clones seem to eat batteries bad--just my experience.

After watching the Nutnfancy video on 15-22s I put a Bushnell TR-25 mini red dot and two risers on for the same setup. Irons don't work for me anymore. It's 3 MOA so it's pretty precise. I was looking for something not too dissimilar to my 1.5 ACOG. Other than the fact I'm using a red dot instead of a triangle, my mind doesn't seem to care at speed.

Paid about $89 at Optics Planet; I'm satisfied with it.
