I just picked up a new MOE version and took it to the range. Prior to shooting I cleaned and oiled it. I put 150 rounds of CCI Mini Mags through it. I didn't experience any FTE's or FTF's. What was troublesome is that after inserting a mag, the gun would not properly chamber the round. It would push the round above the barrel opening with such force that twice it bent the bullet from the casing. This happened to me at least a half dozen times. I tried using both the charging handle and the bolt release. I only have the one mag and it looks to be in fine condition. Also, during a course of fire, this happened to me twice.

I've been reading about the FTE and FTF issues but haven't heard about any fail to chamber when first charging the gun. Is there a fix for this or does it need to go back to the factory?

This is a failure to feed. The most likely suspect is over-loading the magazine which places too much pressure on the top round and the bolt can't strip it properly. Non-staggered cartridges in the magazine cause the same problem as they use too much magazine space.

Also caused if the top round rim is behind the rim below it. This can happen anywhere in the magazine.

Try loading (say) 20 rounds in the magazine and see how it feeds the first one. Load the magazine carefully. Takes much longer to load than empty!

I get the same thing a lot of the time. I think S&W needs to go back to the drawing board on the magazines. There are too many issues with them.

It's most likely a mag loading issue...

I have four magazines that have functioned perfectly. No redesign needed.
There are a few videos on how to load the magazine with the needed stagger, etc.

That really sounds like what was stated above. If you have the rims of each round in front of the previous round then the top one can slide forward no problem. If the top rounds rim is behind the bottom rim it can't slide and will load wrong.

Try like they said, load a mag and then unload by hand using your thumb as the bolt, slide the rounds out with your thumb, if it is loaded correctly you will clear the mag in seconds, if you have rims overlapping you will feel it bind up.

I have a new 15-22 and have some ftf/tft on my zeroing session.

After that not a single issue.

agree with the rest of the gentlemen here...I had the same issue a couple weeks back when i took a n00b friend shooting-he didnt pay attention when i ran him through reloading the magazines and got the offset stagger off and it did this exact same thing...

take a few minutes and search for and watch the videos online about proper reloading on the mags...it was very helpful for me!

The Magazines dont need a redesign at all...just have to adapt to the mags specific technique Hope it helps and congrats on the MOE--excellent choice!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll pay extra attention next time out as to how the rounds are loaded. I was only putting in 20 and 10 at a time. I was reloading fast as I've always done with my .223's. Overall I'm very pleased with this rifle so I'm sure I'll get it figured out.

rimfire cartridges are always alot more particular on the way they are stacked in the magazines...coming from a Mini-14/ AR15 family i had similar issues when i first started out...

I was having the same problem but someone on the board said to load the mag full and let it sit for a few days. I did just that and then when it came time to shoot I made sure that I loaded the mag so that the round on top was in front of the round beneath it. 200 rounds and not a glitch. I think my mag springs could have been too stiff. Good luck.

I've had my 15-22 since early august and I've put about 2000 rounds of the fed bulk 550 packs through it (I shoot in my backyard) and I haven't had one ftf or fte. Only had one problem and that was because the round wasn't primed so it didn't go off.
