Wally World Had What?!?!
I was out cruizing our local Super Wally World tonight in good ole Lawton/Fort Sill Oklahoma, and I always swing through the sporting good section to see what ammo is being stocked and to see if there are any other items of interest.
Well wouldn't you know it, there sitting in the gun case for sale is an M&P 15-22 (Standard w/25 round mag) listed at $395. Looks like Wally is stepping up their game and trying to expand their inventory beyond just hunting style rifles. Wounder if they will price match on weapons?
To add extra icing on the cake, when I spun the magic wheel on the case to see more, a Taurus Circuit Judge appeared in my view at a price of $495. Damn thing nearly jumped in my cart. If it hasn't found a home by this weekend, I might just have to sign the adoption papers and bring her home. Most places around here want $550+.
At our second Super Wally World, they are now stocking Ruger 10/22 mags and Mossberg International Plinkster mags. Hope Wally continues with this trend and that it begins to spread to all Wally Worlds across the US. We shall see...

I heard rumors of China-Mart getting back into the actual sell of guns...but this is good news indeed. I guess since their AirSoft and folding knives along with other hunting and shooting sports items are selling so well they might as well expand.

I think it is the same deal as some of them no longer stocking guns at all. It's store by store as to what they will or will not stock. But it is good to hear than at least one of them is getting better.

The Walmarts in my area sell a lot of American made ammo.
The Target Stores in my area sell the same Chinese stuff that Walmart sells, only at a higher price.
Target sells no ammo.

Our small town rural Wally World super store sells no guns whatsoever, and what little ammo they have, they keep hidden from the eyes of any customer that might want to buy it. Mostly they only carry a little RF 22, and some 12/20 ga stuff. Their ammo stock is always low and often completely out. I guess the store manager is anti-gun.

a call to customer service can probably fix that, regardless of the manager's views.

walmart is the ideal version of capitalism that our founding fathers envisioned.
make a better mouse trap or sell the same one for less and they will come......make money, invest, diversify, expand, rule.
walmart is the place to go for bullets to bread.

This would be kind of weird. I buy my ammo at gun shops but from what I hear, buying ammo from Walmart can be awkward. I think most of the stores here have their ammo behind a counter so you need to ask for help. Kept hearing that there has been employee issues with that, can't imagine how much of a headache it would be if Tommy from the auto parts section also works behind the gun counter lol

Try it here in Illinois, where the employee has to have a state issued Firearms Owner ID card to even touch the ammo. It is in a locked case and in some cases the manager who has the key doesn't have a FOID, so (s)he has to unlock the case so Tommy from auto parts can take it out and ring it up.

both our local Wal-Marts stopped selling guns a few years ago. Rimfire ammo and shotgun shells are out in the open but centerfire handgun rounds are locked up. Hornaday 17HMR at Wal-Mart is $3.00 more per box than at the local farm supply store.

Our Wal-Mart Supercenter also stocks both rifles/shotguns and ammo! Before, I'd never volunteer to go help with the shopping...now they say "Hi Danny...how many boxes of .22 ammo do you need today?" My town doesn't have a gun shop so I was glad to see them handling guns/ammo again!

yeah, it is annoying. ours doesn't even have a gun counter, just a locked case of ammo in sporting goods. i can honestly say the avg wait to get someone with a key can be 15-20 min. sometimes worse... but i only know 2 other places to get ammo cheaper, and both are over an hour away. not worth the drive for just a bulk box or 2. the local shops here in most cases cost 20% - 40% more for the same ammo

as much as i try to avoid buisness with Wal Mart its just a fact that they have unbeatable prices on quite a few things that it just doesnt make sense to pay more for--ammo and targets--

Our Walley World carries the Ammo in a Glass Case, and is usually pretty well stocked. I buy a couple of boxes of 9mm, .22LR and maybe 380 if I'm running low, just to keep it stocked up. Unfortunately, our Super Store doesn't carry Guns any longer. They started phasing them out over the last couple of years. All they have now are the Air Guns.
Funny thing is, if I go to a neighboring town 14 miles away, the same exact Ammo at their Walley World is $3 higher per box. I said what the hell one day, and asked them if they "Price Match". When they said sure-do, I told them I wanted a 100 Round Box of Win 9mm and a 555 Round Box of Win .22LR. When they asked where was the Ad for the Price Match, I told them to call the Walley World in my town..... they have it for $3 less. They did call to verify, and after getting the Manager's ok, they sold it to me for my stores price. However, the next time I went back there, the price still hadn't changed. Guess they're gonna still keep ripping folks off for $3 a Box. Hmmmm!
Cheers!
BB

I drive around a good 60 mile radius daily, so there's 3 or 4 Super Wally Worlds that I can hit, and they all carry guns and ammo. Gotta love Pennsyltucky! In fact, their Winchester 9mm price is pretty much unbeatable. Oh, and +1 on being able to buy random stuff that's seemingly unrelated at one checkout. The value of time saved can't be overstated, either.

Funny story about that, i always buy from walmart instead of gander because they overprice like crazy on there ammo by me, but everything i try to buy ammo at walmart they have to call around the store, see who has a foid card, get a manger to open the case then sell it to me. i complained to one of the only managers who had a foid card and the first thing she said was,"want a job?" I was tempted but i forgot to ask if i got a discount on ammo and shooting supplies!
Long story short IL gun laws are stupid

All gun laws are stupid, IMO, but we Illinoisans have some duzzies...
More incredible than all that, is that you guys all BUY ammo??? I haven't bought ammo in years. (Well, OK, 22s...) I think the last ammo I bought was Triton Quik-Shoks in the early to mid 90s. Everything I've shot has been cast and handloaded since the 80s...

Haha, I have a Swedish mauser I need to start reloading for. Factory ammo prices are painful for that one! .22lr doesn't seem like it's worth reloading, to me. Last box of CCI blazer 525 pack I bought was $14 at the local shop

Rules Vary
Some Wally-Worlds have entered into agreements with city and state police - or Bloomberg - to collect personal information on all ammo buyers. Some even have cameras set up to capture your mugshot and they archive those away - just in case...
I try to avoid them if I can. Rather give my business to local shops, but the shops screw up by trying to make money on ammo. They need to be using the ammo as a loss-leader to get us into the store.
I happened to be in Lawton last week and try as I might, I never did make it to Walmart. Would have liked to have seen that AR there, even if it was a .22.
Funny thing about FOPA: That was Dad's baby. He went to Washington in 1978 with the intention of repealing much of GCA'68 and the Firearms Owners Protection was his landmark bill. (He called it the Gun Decontrol Act.) After he left ILA and Cassidy and company watered the bill down significantly they finally got it passed - with the MG ban tacked on - but people quickly started complaining that NRA had pulled a fast one because they kept finding little gems like mail-order ammo and components. Dad had embedded these provisions in various nooks and crannies to keep them off the radar. People from NRA were calling him weeks after the bill passed asking "was this really in the bill?" Had he not buried those provisions the bill probably would have done little besides providing limited safe travel through restrictive states. Much of what was in the original bill never made it through so there is still a lot of work to do.

Wally Worlds around here had ammo before and are now adding Shotguns, 22's. I haven't seen any handguns yet. Business is Business and if it adds to the bottom line they seem to be more interested now in doing business.
Good for them.

It's good to see Wal-Mart stepping up and doing what customers want and not bowing to the Politically InCorrect idiots. In Oregon we have not had problems getting guns or ammo.
Used to be you could buy guns and ammo at your local hardware store. Even thru the mail before 1934. How many school shootings were there then???
Can you even find a small hardware store?

Checked out one of the local Super Wally World stores in NEPA today. No M&P 15-22s, but they had a small selection of rifles (including a hot pink 22,) and shotguns, and a surprising variety of ammo-just not a whole lot of selection in 22 ammo. Plus shotgun shells out the wazoo. Funny thing is, all the brass-type ammo is locked up, but the shot shells are just out on the shelf...WT*...? But all in all, its better than nothing.
Oh, and the other question on the table:

Jeff, is this him:

Sounds like we need more politicians like him and fewer of the ones we have.

Thanks for filling us in, Jeff. It sounds like your dad had quite a career defending gun owners rights. And strange coincidence- that L.D. Knox had a son Jeff, too. My bad. Anyway, thanks for keeping his work going, we need all the pro-gun publication and education we can get, with main stream media being so anti-gun.
