Here's a 3-9x50 on a QD base. Not overkill, but just right. I like it a lot.

Why? And how much are you spending on your "40x" scope? If it's anything under a grand, then I bet it will be about as sharp as a wet balloon.

they'll have to come fix it a few times to make it work, i'd get a refund if you want something that just works out of the box.

haha - you're going to have to get a different adapter for your carry handle.
btw - i got my carry handle setup on order with my incoming scope as well...
I'm looking forward to seeing how a 50mm scope fits with my co-witness line of sight...

Got a Great Price on this Simmons Whitetail 6.5-20x50 around XMAS last year. It replaced a Simmons 3-9x40, which wasn't quite doing what I needed it to:
Cheers!

You won't be able to co-witness with a magnified optic but you can lift the scope with rings as high as needed to keep the bell from blocking the carry handle see-through mount. However, the issue then becomes cheek weld because the scope is lifted high. That's why I use a specific carry handle scope with integral mount to keep the scope as low as possible. Also, the eyepiece of your scope may end up being well behind the rear sight making things complicated. With a large scope you might find that a setup like Blackbeard's works well. In any event... looking forward to hear how it works for you.

With the below I can maintain a good cheek weld. Anyway... look forward to hear how it works for you.

Yea - i've been a bit concerned about that. It's either going to cover the iron sight view or the elevation of higher mounts is going to require cheek-stilts... should be interesting. I'll definitely post an update w/ pics once the stuff comes in.

Sorry to answer this way, but why would you put a scope/optic that cost more than the weapon it's on?? First know the caliber and what it is intended use, second know the weapons limitations, third fill the bill with your pocket book and last, enjoy shooting the 22LR for what is is worth... Remember if you go on a range with the M&P 15/22 and have a $1,000 scope on it, you'll only be the brunt end of others jokes.. Like owning a Ferrari and going to PepBoys for tires... silly milly..
