Default New 15-22 Standard version question

I have recently (2 days ago) purchased the 15-22 standard version with the Flash hider. I was wondering is the flash hider removable? How so? Is the barrel threaded? If so what's the threading?

I was looking into a barrel shroud and wasn't sure exactly which to get any info on which brand/site to get one?

Thank you for your responses in advance.

Yes, the flash hider is removable. The threading is 1/2 x 28, and is the standard threading for all AR15s, so any muzzle device for an AR15 will work.

The barrel shrouds from tacticool22 (member here) , spikes tactical, and belt_fed(member here) are all popular here because they are high quality and look great. Its all personal preference on which one you end up getting.

How do you remove the flash hider? I tried with hand and couldn't get it to budge. Would rather not use a metal tool and scratch it.

Hold gun, turn wrench. Better yet clamp barrel in vise then turn wrench. Leffffffty loooosey. Tap with hammer if needed. You will have it off in no time.

Use the proper size metal wrench. You wont hurt it, its a $5 part really. Or maybe take a thick rag and a pair of vise grips. I would use the correct wrench.

I had to heat up the flash hider with a propane torch and then it came right off.

Make sure you are in a free state first. I don't know if the flash hider is one of the "don't remove/modify" parts in those communist states or not. If you live in the somewhat free U.S. then secure the barrel in a barrel vise (optimum) then left turn it off with wrench. Shouldn't scuff if you do it right with correct tools (no pliers) if it does get scuffed fix with blueing pin or leave it as character.

Default Removing flash surpressor M & P-22 rifle

Use a padded vice, Brownells sells the padded jaw covers that slip on the vice jaws. A magnetic holds them in place. Surpressor comes off easily!

This should only be torqued 15-20 lb-ft so it "should" come off easily. Barrel vice is highly recommended as the plastic upper receiver may be damaged is some gorilla at the factory put your flash suppressor on too tightly.

I know of no jurisdictions that don't permit removal of the muzzle device but several that don't permit it at all.
