I was shooting my friends old .22 rifle the other day and i fell in love the .22 cal. Now i am in the market of getting a .22 in a AR15 platform. I was going to get a ruger 10/22 at first but came across the 15-22 and liked it alot. I have some questions about this 15-22 model before i buy it on thursday.

Can i take this 15-22 and hunt squirrel/rabbit with this gun on public gameland? Someone told me that it is illegal, i live in Kentucky by the way. I have been doing some research on this model and been hearing people say to get one with the blue spring. What spring and where is the spring located? Is it easy to spot? Can you tell by just the serial number?

Is the MOE version worth the extra 80 dollar?

Blue springs are the trigger springs...easy to spot if the gun store allows you to break down the rifle - Just tilt the upper forward, and you'll see 'em.

I think the MOE is a great value if you want some aftermarket stuff...the sum of the parts you get would be much more than $80 if purchased after the fact.

As for using it for hunting in KY...dunno.

Don't think, get it, you will love it. The blue spring is the newest version from S&W to resolve some FTF issues, it appears to be a stronger spring that's all. You have to remove the bolt/carrier assembly from the upper to see it. As far as hunting, can't answer that one...

cant answer as to wether or not its legal to hunt rabbit and squirrel but it most likely is. call and ask your state department of fish and wildlife. as for the rifle, BUY IT you will not be disapointed. to check for blue springs push the rear takedown pin out and pivot the rifle open, you will see in the trigger group either yellow or blue springs. I got my rifle with yellow springs and had no problems but decided to swith to reduced weight JP trigger springs. as for the moe version, it does not make the weapon function any better or worse its all just "furniture" if you plan on adding that stuff in the future then buy the moe version, it will save you some bucks.

+1

Stop Thinking & Start Plinking.

You will most likely need a small game hunting license and you also have to make sure it's legal to hunt w a Rifle in your area as well as local firearm discharge laws. I would love to Hunt little critters w it but you can hunt w rifles by me.

Check here hope it helps.

*also MOE is worth the $80, my mbus, Ctr & grip was alot more than that.

Good choice :-)

The blue springs will be located both on the bolt and in the trigger. They will be very obviously blue. As far as the legality in your municipality, you should probably ask your local dept. of conservation. The MOE version is totally worth the extra 80 bucks too! Trust me on that, the mbus sights are gonna be bout a hundred bucks a set come tax and possible shipping. GO FOR IT!!!!! I love mine to death!

Highly recommended. I've got a half dozen 10/22. They are much fun. But so are both the M&P15-22 which I recently acquired. Get the 15-22 first. I'd like to get the dark earth one cause the mag looks cool. The M&P15-22P has me wanting an AR15 pistol...

As nike says just do it. Its a fun accurate gun to shoot youll love it I traded two of my other guns after I shot this one. I go to the range every saturday and pump out 550 rounds out to the point that all my other guns a jealous...lol

Btw anyone else "Blue" on their "Blue spring" come off during cleaning? I thought I was a smart guy and dipped the spring in hopPes # 9 and while drying all blue came off. I then lubes it smacked it back on never had a problem.

Try it, You will like it!

Yo gabba gabba?

Buy the 15-22. More reliable than a .22 conversion kit in my own experience. And if you sometimes find that your index finger gets sleepy if it isn't put to work, this won't break the bank.

Since I know you will succumb to your desires of the 15-22, buy two (2) large boxes of .22 ammunition. Shoot 1,000 rounds the first day.

At which point, you won't shoot 5.56 again... until someone else pays your way.

Enjoy.

thanks everybody...i will be making a drive to buds tomorrow to go get my MOE. I am having a really hard time deciding whether i should get the dark earth or black. Can the 15-22 shoot the 22 shorts, CB i think thats what they are?
