MP 15-22, this part fell off?
Hi Folks,
I brought my 8 year old son to the range today to do some shooting and had this tiny little part fall off the SW MP 15-22. Luckily I managed to see the part when it fell and was able to pick it up. The part fell when the rifle had to be shifted after a shell jammed, and when it dropped with the shell casing I picked it up. Without the part, the casings will no longer manually eject, but seem to eject "most" of the time when the rifle is fired.
Anyone have an exploded view that shows how to reinstall this or should I ship it back to S&W. Of course the rifle is now 13 months old and out of warranty.....
Thanks in advance
Aimless

A bit of good news for you. S&W has a lifetime warranty so you're GTG. As to what the part is, I don't know even though I own one. While we waiting for the Pack to take the field, I'll go and take a look.

This is the extractor. I would contact S&W to find out if they want the whole rifle or just the bolt.

These are all the parts that you should have:
You are missing the extractor and the spring. Back to S&W it goes!

Looks like a piece from the extractor. Mine broke too when it fired out of battery. Please do NOT continue to fire this weapon until its fixed. Call S&W, they will send you postage and arrange a pick up of the rifle. They will have it back to you BETTER then new in a couple weeks. Mine came back in less then 2! The good news is you have a life long warranty with the rifle so its totally free. They even pay for shipping. When I got my rifle back it shot smoother and the trigger was a little lighter. Mine is also no longer ammo finicky after S&W fixed it. Good luck!

This part is held in position by the spring, and it looks like the 22lr casing hooked the extractor and it was pull out. You should be able to re-install it and it should be safe to fire, there is no roll pin holding this part in, just the spring. Re-install it, if it falls out again, then you may have an issue with tyour bolt extractor.
When I was cleaning my bolt, my rag caught the extractor and I popped mine half way out, caught it just in time, re-installed it and it is working like a champ still today.
Also if you have a casing fire out of chamber, the pressure blows out the extractor. This is just my recommendation, if you feel unsafe, mail it back to S&W, this is just my opinion.
