Default can a 15-22 cycle 22lr subsonic rounds?

i have seen a couple of videos of a ruger 10-22 firing subsonic rounds and it cycled it very good. Can a 15-22 cycle it too?

Yes, most likely. At least some of them. About all you can do is try the brand you like in yours to be sure.

My 15-22 will easily cycle the CCI subs as well as the CCI standard (they stay subsonic at about anything over 10-12°f).

Even with hammer spring work my 15-22 won't reliably cycle Remington subsonic but my friends 15-22 with the original (non blue) bolt spring will.

mine cycles rem subsonic just fine (blue springs) as well as cci ss and aguila super extra subsonic and sss.

if discrete shooting is your intent some subsonic is MUCH louder than others. i find remington to be one of the quieter ones, which probably directly relates to some peoples rifles having issues cycling them.

i would like to note the manual says specifically not to use any and all subsonic ammo as it can be unreliable.

CCI subs and standards work fine in mine. I usually run them with a suppressor, so that helps. Not a big fan of the remington subs. They are less reliable.

Definitely subsonics are quieter than high velocity .22. The initial firing POP can be a fair amount quieter but that annoying CRACK of the bullet breaking the sound barrier is gone. That sonic crack is the noise that seems to carry for long distances.

CCI standard runs about 1070 fps (according to CCI anyhow).

The speed of sound is around 1070 at 17°f. Then just a bit over 1100 fps at 50°f.

There is a trasnsonic zone just under the speed of sound that can effect bullet flight a bit also.

I shoot CCI standard quite a bit & in 16" barrel rifles for the most part they are & stay subsonic in decent shooting temperatures.

Every now & then I will get a sonic crack when shooting the CCI standards in low morning temps (below 20°f) but usually they stay pretty quiet till the ambient air temp gets down to around 10-12°f. At those low temps a lot will start sonic cracking pretty good.

Basically just try a box of different .22 standard & subsonic rounds to see what you & your gun likes as far as shooting & noise goes.

Mine does just fine! My 15-22 performs flawlessly with ANY type of ammo now. I had to send mine back after it fired out of battery but S&W did a great job of fixing my baby and getting her back quickly and safely. Good luck and good shootin!

I use Remington subsonic almost exclusively. I've never had any reliability issues with this round. Additionally after tons of ammo trial and error with tons of different brands, velocities, etc., these have proven most accurate at 50yds from my rifle.

Additionally, the sound level with earplugs in is very low and feels / sounds 'supressed' as I'm shooting it, which is actually pretty cool. The higher velocity stuff moving up to Stingers starts to get noticeably louder and crack pretty good under the roof at my range.

Rem Subsonic are about worthless in my 15-22. The ones that cycle crack the sound barrier, the ones that stay subsonic won't cycle.

I have shot many thousands of CCI Stardard Velocity and all have stayed subsonic and cycled perfectly. Dick's Sporting Goods $25/500.

What cracks me up is that Rem Subsonic is rated 20fps slower than CCI SV.

what's really odd is they are the the quietest ss ammo i've tried other than super colibri (which i don't count as they don't cycle.)

no can yet. still have to get around to setting up a trust.

i also found it odd that the aguila subsonic sniper seemed the loudest out of the ones i've tried.

i have some winchester super x subsonic in the mail, it's one of the only ones left i haven't tried. we'll see how that goes. winchester is hot or cold.

the super x subsonic seemed super super quiet when i tested them, i cycled 2 mags just fine. if you look at each round closely they do seem to be lacking in quality and uniformity.. but i have to say i was super impressed with the lack of volume, almost don't need a can with those.

New member here....

Mine has the upgraded blue springs and has so far reliably cycled Remington subs, CCI subs, and Aguila super extra 38 grain subs without any issues. The Aguila's are super quiet running my Form1 suppressor.

Sorry to say but Aguila 60g SS will keyhole in any rifle that does not have a much faster twist rate. To shoot these accurately you need a barrel with a 1 in 9 twist instead of the standard 1 in 16 twist of just about every .22LR rifle out there.
Same issue with ARs. If you shoot the heavier match bullets you need a 1 in 8 twist to shoot up to 69g and a 1 in 7 to shoot 77g.
Heavier bullets will not stabilize without spinning faster.

Mine eats Remington Sub Sonic like a toddler with Skittles.

It is my favorite round to shoot. I have the blue springs. I have also used a brand called Swartklip (now defunct) 's sub sonic, as well as SOBOL sub sonic. I wouldn't suggest the SOBOL, it is dirty dirty ammo with way too much lube on it.

I have recently bought some Winchester sub sonic. I have not tried it yet. I bought it sight unseen and thought it was Remington.

HI, I shoot pretty much exclusively with Winchester Hollow Point Subs and with Suppressor. Straight out the box put 300 through and was to say the least concerned as I had read all sorts of stories about FTF FTE etc etc. NOT a single issue. have tried some "regular and Hi Velocity" and had some fail to fully cock hammer (2) other than that it eats what its fed.
