Default NcStar Mark III Tactical 3-9x42 (mildot)

I've had a few questions about the NcStar glass I have, so I thought I'd provide some pics (since I dont have permissions to create an album) for those that may be looking into it.

[just a preemptive strike.... yes, i fully understand the glass i bought]

if anyone is interested, i can provide some feedback on my "experience" with this one...

Deccher, I too have a NStar scope just like yours, minus the small red dot. But I have the adapter for it. I zero'ed it in on my M&P and put two small "white dots" so I can do a quick swap from the Vortex Red Dot. I too love it, it is dead on at 50yards. So for long shots swap to this. But I've been doing the Magpul Dynamics training and we only shoot up to 25yards so haven't been using it much.

One thing I found on using the NStar on the illumination Red/Green even in the lowest setting is that it is still very bright for night shooting. During the day it is about right, I only wish they had the setting 2 or 3 notches lower for dawn or early evening training.. Aside from that, it rocks with this on. I'll post a picture of it when I get home.. Keepem in the Xring.

Thumbs up my 2cents....

[sorry for the dissertation...but this would have helped my decision...hope i can help someone else's]

Hey guys, I was actually pretty surprised by this piece of glass. Here's my 2cents....

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with my purchase. I was super nervous about buying from NcStar, but read/heard some reviews to push me over the edge to purchase. The brett248vista video (mentioned below) helped a lot. So did the many comments I read about NcStar customer service. This piece *looks* the tactical part, which was a big factor in my decision. Let's be honest here, the 15-22, as menacing as it looks, is STILL A .22!!! Looks were a big factor for me. If not, I'da slapped a Nikon 4x on it.

- The weight is a little more than i thought. this thing is solid. I actually like it, as it puts a little more weight back into the 15-22. Makes it feel a little more like a rifle, than a toy (if that makes sense). The weight is not too crazy though. Just adds a more solid feel.

- The glass is surprisingly clear, for something this compact/price-point. I have been out in the field (Idaho desert, hills/sagebrush) probably about 5 times with this one so far, in sunlight/clouds/high winds, and have noticed NO artifacting or hazing. At the extreme (9x), I noticed some very minor vignetting, but don’t really consider it a con, due to the price-point, and I can only really compare to a Nikon 4x32. Really, I didn't expect much, and am happy with the choice.

- Many have complained about the mount (coming loose)...and the scope not holding zero. i can say i haven't had this issue, and have removed it a few times in the field. 1st thing i did was take some blue Loctite to ALL of the mounting screws. When I re-mount it, I make sure the locating pin is pushed all the way back into the rail slot, then lock the clamp down (if that makes sense). Not a single issue (so far). I like the idea of the two dot locators…definitely going to give that a go. I took my mounting cues from a brett248vista vid on youtube (How to mount your NcStar Mark III Scope (QD Mount) - YouTube)

- Many have also complained about the crosshairs being whacked out, out of the box. Mine were in perfect order. Apparently, if you get one that is messed up, NcStar will square you away. Some really good things being said about their customer service. That goes a LONG way with me.

- The red dot sight looks cheap, and feels cheap. But, does the trick for the 25yd distance I envisioned it for. The pic doesn’t really do the “dot” any justice. When I look through it, it is VERY crisp and defined, and not nearly as large as it is in the pic. This is my first red dot, and I have kicked around the idea of getting a little nicer one since it (NcStar) is on a quick release (Strikefire/SPARC or PA), but that all depends on what type of shooting I will be doing this summer. This 15-22 thing is a terrible sickness, which causes mass over-accessorization!!!

- My ONLY "concern" is the eye-relief. The first pic i placed on the forum shows the mount directly on the flat-top. when it was in this config, I had my nose about 1/2" from the charging lever. I know i could have moved it back some more, if I removed the BUIS, but i like to have them there (just in case). Since then, I have added about 1/2" riser, which allows me to get my head up a little, and honestly is more comfortable/natural. The whole problem with my eye-relief assessment is that the only thing I have to compare to is the Nikon 4x32 @ home...COMPLETELY different, and unfair comparison.

- The illumination knob is a little hard to turn (we're not talking about taking pliers to it here). But really, who cares?? I can turn it on, change the brightness levels, and off. Does what it needs to. It will probably get loosened up over time. Honestly, I haven’t used it much. The black crosshairs are clearly visible in the environment I have been shooting in. I haven’t noticed a lot of variance in the brightness levels, but again, haven’t played much w/ it. As it warms up, I have no doubt I will be doing more dawn/dusk trips to the desert.

Please let me know if I can help out in ANY way. If there are any other pics you all want to see, just holler.

I have the same scope and like it a lot. No problems with mine. For the price it's a great scope for the 15-22.

I thought about getting this one as well. In the end I decided that I don't need a micro red dot for anything right now. So I went with the Mark III 4x32 for about $100 cheaper. I haven't tried it yet.

If it works the way I need it to then all is well. If I find the need for a small red dot, I can always mount one after the fact.
