Thinking about changing the rail on your Ar 15-22? Here is food for thought, how about a Daniel Defense rail? I've done research upon research and bought a Daniel Defense rail for airsoft. Yes I said airsoft. It comes with no port for gas tube other than that is identical to a regular Daniel defense rail. The absolute minor modification needing to be done is at the base of the rail mount, just needing a small area milled out to accomidate the offset of the forward take down pin lobe. Seeing how they stick out a smidge over a higher caliper Ar.

Eef, I hate hearing about airsoft parts going on a real firearm haha but I would really like to see a pic if you've got one on your M&P.

It's in the mail now. In all reality it's the same rail you would put On an actual ar. The only difference is the gas tube hole isnt drilled. The 22 ar doesnt run a gas tube. So? Why give it a try.

Don't fool yourself... The reality is it is NOT the same rail you would put on your AR, drilled or not. The airsoft rail is made in Taiwan by Madbull and is for toy use only... not to mention they have have a number of lawsuits against them for claiming licensing rights given to them from several manufacturers for the airsoft versions of their products. I wouldn't be surprised if DD was one of them.

Never-the-less they state:
Daniel Defense Licensed Omega Rail 7" Airsoft version
NOTE: For Airsoft only; The Airsoft version rail is using lower grade Aluminum without forge heating process. It will be very dangerous if you install it on firearms.

I know who madbull is and the all about the fakes over seas. Eotech is mainly the cloned product. There are US manufactures however that do make parts for airsoft from an original AR made part. Visiting a friend in Cali he has both rails. Taking weight, and a micrometer to them
Both it's identical aside the gas tube hole. He has done research and found it produced in the US from a acft machining company who mils out firearm parts too. This being the same company who is contracted by several firearm companies to mass produce their parts and being the same company who makes Daniel Defense rails.

I sorry again to say you appear to be completely misinformed... DD makes their own rails... they do not contract anyone to make them... that is their bread and butter and what they are famous for and what got them on the map along with their hammer forged barrels which they now make for other smaller arms manufacturers. DD was a firearm accessories company making hand guard / rails long before they started making complete rifles... one of their major breakthrough client being the British armed forces... for an in depth history of DD go to their website or youtube and you'll find the authorized company biography video that they gave out at one point with each rifle they sold.

If this is an airsoft quality rail, then how is it any improvement over the polymer rail that comes on the 15-22? Its already a quad rail, non-floating, and can do anything this fake DD rail can do. You don't know what kind of quality you are getting in this Chinese fake rail, so why put it on? Just because it has a DD logo on it?

Guys Guys, explain how it could be dangerous? Its a rail , the worst that can happen is it cracks and breaks. I have an Airsoft AR and the damn thing is sturdy. I use it for keeping pigeons off my roof, but I cant see why an aluminum airsoft rail is going to hurt anything.

Evening DocEda

I'm kind of with you on this one. It is supposed to be machined from 6061 aluminum so should be much stronger then that wimpy plastic production piece.

That part is kind of like a paper clip, not much can go wrong as long as it fits & mates up to the stock upper.

Have you put it on yet? If so how does it mate up & match to the picitinny rail on the stock upper?

How does the rear adapter mate up to the front of the upper & to the (what ever barrel nut you used)?

Looks like that adapter might even stiffen the plastic in the front of the upper if it mates up tightly.

Sounds like an interesting project & might just make an improvement.

Post some pictures when you get it done-- especially on the rail match up & the adapter fit to the upper.

I think its safe to say this guy isn't taking this rifle to afganistan and betting his life on it. who cares if its for air soft if it works and makes the man happy then right on. If you don't like it, don't put it on your rifle. that being said I also doubt that it is of the same quality as a regular DD rail.

How does it stay on the barrel? If it is truly identical to the regular rail, then you need an adapter because the thread on the 15-22 barrel is nowhere near close to fitting a standard AR barrel nut.

Geeze, you'd think you were putting something pink your gun (which I suspect would be more politically correct than a - GASP! - airsoft part).

If it attaches, attach it, but it never happened if you don't post pics.
