Well, after building my AR15 the 15-22 just felt pathetic...kind of felt lame shooting an AR platform 22 after shooting 100 rounds through my 5.56 AR. Friend of my brother offered me a killer deal on a matching numbers 1943 Mauser and $300 cash, so I just got back from transferring the 15-22 to him. Planning on taking that $300 and buying something a little more traditional, thinking either a Remington 597 or a Marlin 60.

Either way, I paid $400 for the rifle, $30 for an extra pair of mags, and $40 for the scope that was on it, so I feel I made out like a bandit off this deal. Cant wait to decide on its replacement and go shoot this mauser this weekend.

No worries, you'll burn through that cash on 5.56 ammo.

Funny… I have gotten quite a guys interested in the 15-22 at my local club. A few of them have AR-15's the others shoot even larger calibers. No doubt shooting a 5.56 is a lot of fun. I will probably end up building one myself soon, I am also looking into a 1911 build. But I wont be giving up my 15-22 any time soon you cant beat the cost/fun.

Buy reloading equipment to feed the 223.

not selling mine and im thinking of a knights armament .308 build next to match one of our military sniper rifles and ill be using all the same parts as said rifle

but i love my PC 15-22 and it has its place and uses that the 5.56 and .308 cannot fill

You can do what I did, get a re-loading Lee Progressive loading setup, load your own 5.56 to save you some bucks. I also have the M&P 15/22 but love it. It's so much fun shooting it, I haven't fired my ARs in a few months.. But I am still training cause the 15/22 has the same controls.. Win, Win for me.... Enjoy, go get another M&P and come back... I had a blast last night shooting our 2nd new 15-22 camo at the indoor range... try shooting 223 at an indoor range.. Yep, in spite of owning about 6-7 AR 223\556's, I just purchased my 2nd 15-22 because when the wife is shooting hers, it's tough to pry it from her cold weak hands. I banged out 100 rounds at the S&W Range with the 15-22, 100 rounds through our new 317 kit gun and another 50 rds through the BG 380. Oh ya, and a quick couple 3 or 4 magazines through my M&P40c ccw gun.

I ain't givin up my M&P15-22 for nobody.

Sorry to hear you sold your M & P 15-22 ,I first purchased the M & P 15 but after a month found out the hard way 30-40 cents a round ends up biting deep in the pocket when I shoot 180 to 300 rounds at a time so I went out and bought the M & P 15-22 so I can shoot more which is the whole point and save the bigger gun for occasional shooting lol

You'll miss it. The .223 will get old after the 'new-ness" wears off, you're spending big bucks on ammo, or if you get into reloading, picking up all your brass. Sure is nice to take the .22 to the indoor range, blast for an hour having spent $20, and then leave! Why sell guns? Just keep collecting.

Agree! When you realize that 60 rounds through the .223 just cost you the same as 550 for the .22....

I have both and the .22 gets fed a lot more often!

I shoot one mag of my 5.56 100 yards w/ irons everytime I go to the range for some good fundamentals practice. Then out comes the 15-22 for some closer plinking and fun, and it doesn't cost me $150 every range outing to shoot.

I LOVE my AR15, but the 15-22 will never be sold or replaced. Gives me the same feelings and experiences, without the severe black hole left in my bank account.

Heh, exactly. I have a membership to an indoor range about 4 minutes from my house where I can shoot my 15-22 whether it's 10F or 100F outside.

Yep, there's a huge difference between 3.6 cents per round and 22 cents per round (I use Wolf WPA or Barnaul Brown Bear in the BCM 5.56 for range ammo).

I have a strong feeling that drifter2be will end up regretting his decision, as ammunition prices slowly climb and it's either too hot or too cold to shoot outdoors.

for plinking purposes the 15-22 can't be beat. I don't buy centerfire rifles for plinking other than the sks and its cheap x39 ammo. but I do reload for my target match ar15 and I load match grade ammo that produces sub .5 moa groups for 29 cents per round. thats damn near cheaper than wolf or brown bear with much better quality and quality control

Only girls feel the need to shoot at indoor ranges. IMHO indoor ranges are overhyped and for the tacticool guys that are afraid to get a little dirt on their guns.

I like to actually test my skills and shoot past 25 yards, the only thing a 25 yard target is good for is sighting in

I shoot at an outdoor range with paper targets to 100 yards and steel at 200 and 300 yards.

It kills me how easy it is for people to post without reading the entire original post, as I stated right at the end of it that I am buying another 22lr rifle, just something more traditional.

And lastly, to everyone that says I'm going to miss it, it served its purpose, which was to satisfy that AR sized hole I had until I had finished my reloading setup, I can now shoot ~200 rounds of quality loaded .223 for the same price as ~500 cheap dirty inaccurate bulk .22. Much more fun and satisfying for me to shoot out to 200 and 300 yards than to punch paper at 50 yards. And I am picking up another 22 today anyway so I can still punch paper at 50 yards anyway.

So funny that so many people get all riled up because I happened to not like the 15-22 with the cult-like fondness that they do.

You came into a 15-22 specific forum saying you sold a 15-22 because it no longer made you happy enough to keep it, what did you expect the response to be?

Personally, I don't think you made a bad choice. If it wasn't providing you with the enjoyment you expected of it, by all means get rid of it. That's what I'd do.

I was just saying that I love the AR platform, it is my favorite platform that I have shot because it is just so versatile. The 15-22 provides me a way to shoot the AR platform more when money is tight.

A little insulting are we? For two years the ONLY place I had to shoot was a 25 yard indoor range. It was either than or not shoot. What would you have done, stay home and cry that you were so limited?

No cult-like fondness here. My 15-22 is just one of my current three .22 LR rifles. I can shoot MOA at 100 yards with my match conversion Ruger 77/22. I can do the same at 75 yards with my 10/22 sporter. I have long lost track of how many rounds have gone downrange from the two of them.

I also have a Mini-14 that I like to shoot, too, along with an M1, a .280 Remington and a couple of others.

But for sheer fun knocking down and blowing up things, the 15-22 can't be beat. Just MY opinion, and for me, that's all that matters.

...Orrrr they can also be in a convenient location and priced well compared to other ranges. The two closest outdoor ranges to me charge $20 for the day(pistol or rifle only, it turns into $30 for using both) and the other is $30 for about 3 hours if it's not busy. The $20 maxes out at 50 meters and is rimfire only now(So it's the exact same distance as the indoor range) and the $30 stops at 100 yards. Then there's the farther outdoor ranges that stretch out more but are about 40-60 minutes away. And lastly, BLM land that's at least an hour and fifteen away.

Why bother getting another .22? Sounds like your too much man for it
