Default Love this gun

Hi everyone, new guy here.
I just received my new M&P15-22 A1 (Model: 811033) 5 days ago. I bought it from Buds Gun Shop. ( Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 A1 Style w/Compensator & Collapsible Sto $445.00 SHIPS FREE ) I paid $433 shipped to my FFL which I thought was a pretty good price and now see they have raised the price to $445. I guess I got lucky and ordered just in time.

I took the gun out and fired about 200 rounds of Federal bulk pack through it, ran perfect.

I don't normally buy new guns, I collect mostly Curios & Relics, but I saw the recent videos of the Slide Fire stock on the 15/22 and decided I had to have one. I just got to say, I'm just blown away by the 15/22! This gun is just so cool even without the addition of the Slide Fire. Let me say, I am 57 yrs. old, I have seen and owned cool before, the 15/22 doesn't take a backseat to anything in MHO. I can't wait to add my own touches to it. I already have my 3 1/2 lb. trigger ordered to make the S.F, work and will be ordering the S. F. soon.

At some point, I would like to SBR it. I'm no stranger Class 3 so it's not a big deal for me. I'm thinking that once I get the paper work done, buying a 15/22 pistol (if I can find one) and dropping the pistol upper on the rifle lower. Anyone know a reason this won't work?

You guys have a great forum here and I'm looking forward to reading the archives.

It won't work. The bolt extends a little too far in the rear for the lower to close. Not sure if the fire control group lines up. Smith & Wesson purposely design the two guns not to be able to be switched.

I suspected that would be the case but was hopeing this would be an easy project.

I would like to be able to reinstall the original barrel if I wanted too. Are barrels for the 15/22 available for purchase that I could have cut down? This would seem a better option, it would allow me to choose the length I wanted.
