New to the 15-22
been lurking on the forum for a couple weeks and decided to buy a 15-22. should be delivered to my FFL tomorrow. i've been checking the USPS tracking # updates every 2 hours like a giddy school boy for the last couple days. am i building it up too much?
btw...from what i've read, this is by far the best firearm forum i've seen...quality responses, good suggestions and patience with all questions. good on you guys.

Welcome! I just bought my 15-22 this past weekend, to go with my M&P Sport, and can't wait to go shoot it.

Welcome to the group. Lots of good people and cool guns to be found here. Where in AZ are you? I'm out in San Tan Valley.

No you're not building it up to much, when you first fire it you will know what I mean. Stock up on ammo, because your going to be using a lot of it lol. If you can get CCI in bulk at a dealer I'd pick up a couple of bricks for break-in period. The more you shoot it the better the gun performs. Happy shooting!

The next thing you'll be waiting for will be the extra magazines you'll order immediately. I never thought a 25-round mag could seem so small. Welcome!

No it's definantly not a must, mine just shoots best with CCI. But mine also loves the federals from walmart. It will probably eat whatever u throw in it, the only ammo mine hates is Winchester super x 333 bulk. Have fun with it, and oh yeah you definantly need to buy more mags lol.

Walmart bulk federal works great with mine. I'm stocked up to around 4,000 rounds now.

Welcome aboard!
Just a few words of caution....
1. The 15-22 is one of the most fun .22lr money pits.
2. The 15-22 is the gateway to a .223/5.56 M&P 15.

Mine absolutely LOVED the CCI mini-mags. Ate 1000 of them with a single FTE. I was beyond impressed. Going to try Winchester Expert HV's this weekend. They're so inexpensive that I'm not expecting the same results but I know I'm going to have a great time with my 15-22.

^Works the best. 0 issues. It's a little expensive for for my tastes. I normally shoot Federal Bulk. Just like stavman11, I purchased 2100 rounds from Cabelas.
Price was OK, considering that it came in a plastic ammo can.

Welcome to this forum.
You'll have a lot of fun with this rifle. I tried out the 555 ammo and it shoots nice and tight at least at 25yrds. I've yet to take it out to 50 and 100.
Only mods were a Tasco red-dot, Hogue grip, and originally, a Troy rear backup-site but I've since swapped it to a MBUS that was on my Colt LE6920CMP-B.
Have fun when you get it!

Get ready for loads of fun and enjoyment without breaking the bank. This along with the M&P22 pistol are two of the most fun guns S&W has come out with. Every range session now I take along one or both no matter what else I'm shooting. I recommend you order several magazines.

well i cleaned it up and took it shooting yesterday and i have to say i'm a little disappointed. i bought the gun primarily because i wanted a rifle on an AR platform that i could take shooting without breaking the bank. my complaint is this: whatever i'm going to save in price/round from 5.56/223 is going to be more than offset by the volume i shoot with the 15-22.
that is one awesome plinker! lots more mags on the way! what else should i be buying?? got a primary arms M4 red dot and foregrip already.

Knew you would like it lol, you could pick up an extended aluminum charging handle, and maybe a barrel nut wrench (but you can make one of those if you wanted to). Or you could just buy tons and tons of ammo like I have to, I shoot at least 100 rounds a day everyday, darn addictions lol

you know it's funny about the charging handle. i had been seeing posts on here about extending charging handles and it make no sense to me until i pulled the 15-22 out of the box at the FFL and the short handle was the first thing i noticed. where's the best place to get one? does the extended handle have the same travel and feel of an AR?

A Tucson native here.
The new charging handles have the real feel, but they don't travel as far as the .223/5.56 because the .22LR is not as long.
Buy ammo, lots of ammo. These are hungry beasts.

Definitely. I know I was going to be buying/building an AR for multigun competition down the road but I ended up feeling I needed it about 6 months before I was going to do it previously. Just finished it last week.
