Default New to the M&P 15-22

well shooting my AR15 cost way to much and after much reading i'm biting the bullet and ordering one of these this weekend! from what i have read this is basically a AR15 frame and all and any accessories will work ? ( grips, sights, everything )!!

this is going to be one very fun range gun i cant wait !

i'm looking for a fore grip with a flashlight what are some options you guys have tried and liked?

The following AR accessories will work with the 15-22:

- Milspec adjustable stocks
- drop-in modular fire control groups
- standard fire control groups
- FCG reduced power springs(hammer & trigger)
- pistol grips
- rail mounted front & rear sights
- custom magazine release buttons
- Optics
- rail mounted accessories
- Muzzle devices (1/2x28 thread)

The following AR accessories will not work with the 15-22:

- Standard safety levers (since the 15-22 lower receiver is wider, standard safeties won't fit)
- Ambi-safety levers (same reason as above) ***
- trigger guards (the 15-22 trigger guard is not removable)
- magazines (obviously..) or magazine well-based safety locks
- bolt release (different dimensions)
- Charging handles (different dimensions)
- barrels (15-22 is proprietary - no aftermarket)
- * handguards (free-floated or standard 2 piece) (can with modification)
- dust covers
- upper receivers (the 15-22 lower is wider and the other dimensions are not the same as an AR lower)

* can be installed with a replacement barrel nut, delta ring assembly, and a modified front sight post**/gas block** (search the forum for the how-tos)

** the 15-22's barrel diameter is smaller than an AR barrel. Fixed AR front sight posts & gas blocks won't fit without shimming the barrel opening

*** Battle Arms Development is working on a 15-22 version of their ambi-safety

...I may have forgotten some stuff from each list.

welcome to the club * ) . I was the same way I love my 15 but it got way to expensive fast so now I ration myself to 4 30 round mags at a time but shoot about 200-300 rounds of 22 LR from my 15-22 and I am a happy camper

There's not that many options for a combined foregrip/flashlight, and the ones I've seen are weapon/combat grade so they're quite expensive.

I would recommend something like the Magpul RVG foregrip (~$25) and the VTAC Polymer Offset Picatinny Rail Flashlight mount (~$25) which can fit .80 to 1.00 inch diameter flashlights which gives you many options.

Yeah I dont know why the 35 round mags are not up yet. Its not tacticools fault I think its Plinker Tactical that has not got the product out yet. Cant wait to get my hands on them.

Hi also note an AR-15 Magpul B.A.D. will not work unless you bend it to fit....however a member here has been working on one for the M&P 15-22 that will fit without mods!

i was with a few people both days so was not that hard everyone brought ammo.

had a hell of a time trying to zero in the iron sights. never got it is there a trick? it always shot low no matter how we adjusted it up or down.

I dont own an M1 garand so I dont know what web site has good deals on clips. But there are some good sites posted out the forum where you can get the 15-22 magazines.

No.

AR-15 magazines are designed to hold a .223/5.56 round (or 300 BLK/whisper), not 22lr.

I'm not sure why you would want to mount AR mags to your 15-22. Even if AR15 magazines fit, they wouldn't do any good. 22lr rounds are much smaller in diameter and length than 5.56/.223 and the magazine wouldn't retain them. If you have a 22lr dedicated AR15, Boonie Packer makes an adapter to go in the mag well that allows you to use 15-22 magazines.

I use Black Dog mags in my dedicated DPMS .22 lr and S&W mags in my 15-22's .....just seems to work better with the parts they were designed for rather than adapters ... not a bit of hassle when shooting as they are obviously different.
Back to the original question, buy ammo and magazines....shoot the beans out of the rifle and then determine if you want to spend your cash on acessories and what kind or more ammo to have fun. Also remember anything you hang on the rifle will add weight.

I don't have a dedicated 22lr AR, but all of the reading I've done says that everyone is very happy with the Boonie Packer adapter and that the 15-22 magazines are breferable to the Black Dog. If you have a SIG 522as well, you have built in commonality. If you have a 15-22 and a 22 AR, the Boonie Packer adapter gives you commonality. I wasn't bad mouthing the Black Dog mags, only parroting the very positive things I have read.
