CCI Seconds? (Updated with Pictures)
Hey guys.. a huge gun store close to me has CCI Seconds - that's all they state.. don't say which round they are... would you guys trust them in any of your rifles?
I've got a .22 Firestorm (Bersa pistol) I wouldn't mind running them through.. but would you guys try them in a 15-22 or a 10-22?
Just kinda curious.. they are DIRT cheap.

I have never heard of CCI offering .22 LR "seconds" for sale. Never seen .22 LR "seconds" from any manufacturer, for that matter.
Ammo manufacturers often make available large quantities of center fire ammo that were originally made for government contracts that were out of spec for the contract, but these are not considered factory seconds.
What is "dirt cheap"?

I don't mind snapping a picture of the box, or of the sign they have up if you want me to. But the sign clearly said CCI .22lr Seconds.
It's from a place in Huntsville, Alabama named Larry's Pistol & Pawn.. they are a huge dealer here.
I live about 45 minutes away so a friend of mine was over there earlier and picked me up a few boxes.
By cheap, I mean CCI's for less than a .02 /round.
They had a sale not to long ago where they had CCI Blazer, the 500 bricks for $14.99 I think it was.. got a couple bricks of those.
Just curious about these 'seconds'. When I get them in hand (probably tomorrow) I'll take a pic of the boxes they are in. If I make it over to the store, I'll snap a pic of the sign.

This was on another forum website when I searched Larry's Pistol and Pawn CCI Seconds
"Larry's Pistol and Pawn in Huntsville has/did have CCI mini mags "factory seconds" for $15 a brick. I use them with some of my other 22"

Photos would be nice, but as I said, I have never heard of .22 LR seconds.
$15/500 for Blazers is a pretty common price around here. That's a little over 3 cents a round, so 2 cents really isn't any great shakes.
we have a local dealer that buys contract overruns on a regular basis, three to four million rounds at a time. If anyone would have something like you suggest, it would be them - and they've never sold any .22 for 2 cent/round that I remember.
Most likely it is just a loss-leader purchase with a special price from CCI's parent company.

So I called them.. why not right?
CCI 'Seconds" what that means is they are a stamping issue. He said they are not under powder charged or priming bad or anything. But they bought the lot from CCI due to the stamping issues.
I had to ask them about my Kimber anyway

Do they mean stamping as in marking?

That's a new one on me. Stamping as in CCI head stamp or the packaging? Both are cosmetic and CCI is dumping them, just like they do with contract ammo, I would guess.
At that rate, the price is not bad.

From my understanding and what he told me, it would be the head stamp. I'll get the ammo from my friend tomorrow and I'll post up some pics of the headstamp and the package / round etc.

Ga Arms had some 22 LR seconds last year. Turns out they acually had both plated and the bare lead. They were in a flip top plastic box. Said the lube supplier had missed the specs a little but the ammo was still ok, the lube just looked different. About a dollar difference in the price between the plated and non-plated. Ran some thru one of my 40-xr's and it shot around an inch at 100 yds for 10 rounds(this was the plated). Not what really good(expensive) ammo will do out of this barrel. But for the price, I went back and picked up 10k rounds.

We have a large LGS here that had some of these two weeks ago. It was 9.99 for 200 rounds of CCI seconds, I did not think that was a good price when I can get 550 Fed bulk for 14.99 so I passed.

I'm thinking I'm going back and going to load up on 'em.. surely I've got something laying around here that'll like them. Hopefully the 10/22 or 15-22

I paid $5.99 for a 200rd. box of 40gr HV.
That's half the price for regular CCI HV's.
I bought a bunch of them last time I was in Huntsville, ~ 6 months ago.

Jim is correct ont he price.
My friend told me .02 /round, found out they are $5.99 /200 round box.
At walmart CCI goes for $6.97 per 100 rounds so.. I'm def. going back and picking up some more.
