If my experience over the years with ProMag metal magazines is any indication, I predict both quality control and feeding problems.

I hope I am wrong.

I'm not a gambling man either. The Promag AK mags are a joke. I broke two the only time I tried some that were given to me. Now I know why they were free.

If I am going to buy a Non S&W mag, it will be a plinker tactical -if they work well. No sense in buying a mag that looks the exact same as the one we have now anyways, extra 7 rounds or not.

The total came out to 21 shipped when you buy 2 or could be cheaper if you buy more. Thats WAY cheaper than most places sell the factory M&p 15-22 mags. Even buying from 44 mag the factory mags are 20 shipped. IF and from what I understand thats a big if they work its not a bad price in my opinion.

Depends on where you get your mags. I haven't paid shipping yet on any mags I have purchased. 15.99 mag with no paid shipping is cheaper than 21 shipped every time. The trick is to be lucky and order mags when a company is promoting free shipping. I would rather be lucky than good.

Yeah I have bought from Palmetto State when they had the free shipping. Its well worth the price. I have a total of 8 factory mags right now. I even paid $28 for one at dicks when I was there the other day just cause they had one. I think I may have a problem. With these two from pro mag I will have a total of 10 and want more. I plan on buying the plinker tactical mags when or I guess is should say IF they ever come out. I hate reloading at the range.

The only problem you might have is not having enough money. I have 15 mags and will probably get "stupid" and pay the ridiculous price pinker tactical will be able to charge for at least 1 mag.

judging by the pictures and comparing it to the stock mags, it looks like all they did was elongate the magazine body and used a shorter follower due to the curveature of the magazine body. The magazine also appears to have screw in it to hold the body together. I might just buy one just for kicks. That and for some reason I just want to have at least one of every aftermarket magazine. I plan on ordering the plinkerton mags both the 10 and 35 rounders just for fun

Hi Guys .....I think I will stick to the factory mags as the 32 rounders don't divide out when loading.....

Over the years I have never found a Pro-Mag brand to work correctly no matter what gun it was for. I have also never met anyone that did either. I am really surprised they are still in business and dealers carry their product. IMO, they are pure junk.

Sorry but I have had only good experiences with their mags, at least the ones I have anyway. I have 3 22 rd (they will hold 25) mags for my Rem 597 and they work more reliably than the Remington/Eagle 30 round ones. They are the only mags over 10 rounds that actually hold the bolt open after the last round.
Also have 2 older 20 round mags for my Browning Hi-Power. Never had a problem with them either.

Pro Mag get's a bad rap but for my Saiga 12 their drum mag works just as good as any other manufacturer.

Those that buy them please post a range report for the rest of us. Thanks for being the guinea pig!

All my ProMag experience is with center-fire pistol magazines. I've tried them for about a half dozen pistols and quickly disposed of every one of them. Cheap, cut-rate magazines are generally not worth the money.

For those that have had good luck with them, I am happy for you.

I received 2 Promag 32 rounders on Friday. I was planning on testing them out at a steel plate match on Saturday, but my job got in the way and I was unable to attend. So I decided to take them to the range today and run some ammo through them.

I was not expecting much out of them as Promag's rep seems to be mostly negative. I have never used a Promag before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I took a look at them today and tore one down to compare it against the S&W 25rd mag. It seems to me that Promag cloned the S&W mag and just extended it make room for 7 more rounds. The follower, load assist button, and for the most part mag body, are basically the same thing just some cosmetic differences. They fit in the magwell with out issue and drop free very easily.

Loading the mags is the same as the S&W mags. However since they are longer and more curvature to them, you have to watch out if you are loading these standing vertically on a table/bench and you can start to run into a problem.

At the range today I primarily tested the Federal 525 value pack and Winchester M22. I did one mag of Blazer 40gn. Overall I only had 2 failure to hold bolt open on the last round and one issue on the 2nd to last mag of m22 to strip the round from the mag. But upon inspection, that was my fault as the first 2 rounds were not seated correctly.

6 mags of M22 no feed or any other issues

5 mags of Federal 525 1 Failure to lock bolt back on last round

1 mag of Blazer 40gr 1 Failure to lock bolt back on last round

In total 384 rounds in about 45 mins.

Cosmetic damage for being pulled from the mold.

If anyone wants me to test out some other brands of ammo let me know. If I can find it locally with out a problem I will grab some. I will be going to the range probably Thurs/Friday after work and running a few hundred more rounds through the mags.

Mine came in today and they look great. I'm not a big fan of the screws, but it's going to be nice to be able to take the mags apart and clean them. Mine also had a cosmetic spot on the front of the mags from pulling them out the mold. Not a big deal to me and it does not seam to affect anything. I have not had time to get to the range, but they load nicely into the mag well and hold the bolt open when the charging handle is pulled back. When I pushed the mag release button the mag did not "drop out" like the factory S&W mags do. The pro mag would just click then and I could pull it out. The mags are a little long, but I like the look. Can't wait to get out and try them out.

I am now up to 1184 rounds through my 2 Promags 32 rounders.

I just about finished off the bulk pack of Fed 525 and most of the M22 last week. Out of 11 mags, the only issue I ran into was a failure to strip a round while shooting a mag of the M22. Probably user error.

Tonight I shot 2 mags of M22 then switched to Blazer LRN 40gr. Out of 12 mags I had 1 fail to hold bolt open on last shot.

In my opinion these mags are good to go. I will be looking to add these specific mags to my inventory shortly.

Not sure about the rest of their mags though. I was gifted 2 brand new 30 round Promags mags for my AR15. Now I have not shot with them, but I do not have much faith in them. They do not drop free and the lips of the mag spread while loading them and they just feel flimsy. That's to bad as I was considering purchasing their 42 round mags.

Well at least you won't need a bipod. Kinda long aren't they? Too bad they can't do the triple stack and neck down like the big brother mags.

I think those would be great mags for Steel Challenge or Ruger Rimfire where you have to shoot 5 runs of 5 plates. Right now I use 1-25 and load 1 10 to shoot the last run. Being able to shoot it with one mag and having 7 extra rounds for misses would be ideal. I think I will buy a few also.
Also looks like the loops for the 25 should fit them also.

I ordered four of them and used them for steel challenge today. I didn't have a single issue with them. In fact, they worked just as well as my factory mags. It was nice to be able to shoot each stage with just one mag and have plenty left over.

But dude you are going to throw off your round count and and the extra inch and a half is soooo going to get in your way during your steel shooting! JK man.

Glad these thing are getting good reviews. I ended up picking up 2 more from Midway after my first two. I'm digging them.

No, the biggest problem I have is I shoot rifles left handed. Soft fleshy right elbow plus hot brass does not equal good times...

I'm going to find a long sleeved shirt I can cut up...

Yeah does not sound like it feels good. There is a vender making a brass defelector so that might be somthing you want to look into.

Tell me more about these steel challenges. I would love to do some. How do you get started?

The best place to start is asking around your local clubs, there will usually be someone who knows where a club holding a steel challenge(or speed steel if they are not affiliated with SC). Also try SCSA, they may have a club near you.

I googled it and yes there is a club locally. Looks like a blast to do. It sucks cause I will be held up for the next two challenges with the kids birthdays so will not be able to do any for the next two months. O well I just built abunch of steel targets and think I will orginize one with some friends.

Sounds good. I actually got my local club's steel challenge match started this year and it's been an awesome start. We hope to expand our match and grow more next year.

Well I could not wait so I went out today and did some practice. I cant wait to get some mathces together. What distance do they usually do mathces or is it however? I was shooting at 50 feet today.

If you download the steel challenge rulebook, they have all eight official stages in it.

Hey all, new guy here. I have a new promag 32, used it tonight, zero problems. I have 2 - 25 mags, S&W brand, I'm always having feed problems, sometimes every 3rd or 4th, even 5th round, doesnt feed right when firing. I saturated the mags in lubricant after tonights session. A trip to the range hopefully tommorow. Anyway, do these SW 25 round magazines have a flaw I dont know about ?............I've had the rifle about a year.

Pretty much guaranteed to cause problems. The inside of polymer magazines should be clean and dry with no wet lube. At best, some DRY graphite could be squirted in.

FWIW, the overwhelming majority of feeding problems with the factory magazines are cause by improper loading. I have never heard of any design flaws with the magazines, although there have been a couple of reports about the seams not being completely closed - easily cured with a little SuperGlue.

Yep, run your mags with no lube or a dry lube. Also load one round at a time, make sure you pull the follower down just enough to load one round, it assures the rounds stagger properly. When you look at the rounds from the side of the mag they should alternate back and forth, otherwise you can run into fail to feed issues.

Are you loading them the way the S&W manual instructs? This solves 99 percent of any feeding problems.

Hey guys.......an update. It appears I may have been using.... " old " ..... ammo. This was pointed out to me by some guy I know. ( wink wink )....It appears some random cartridges didnt have the same action, or reaction, as others of the same batch. Also, I loaded the S&W magazines a bit more careful, using the follower after each cartridge load. All 3 magazines worked flawless when a newer box of ammo was used, including the 32 rd promag. Also, the 2 S&W magazines had lubricant from the night before, without negative effect...............With that said, do any of you have any experience with making a slidfire work on a 15/22 specifically ?.............

glad to hear you got it all figured out.

there are a few owners who use the slidefire and love it. i believe theres a revised edition as the first didnt fit so well so make sure you get the right one. it also requires a lighter 3-4 lb trigger in order to work.

Hey guys,in your opinion, in regards to the Slidefire, does it get " old " after awhile ?............ I used a 9mm AR15 with the slidefire recently from some guy I know ( wink wink ). It was kewl, but rather expensive in regards to the price of 9mm compared to 22lr. 30 round magazines went quite quickly. And, other than fending off zombies or large mutants, it seems somewhat impractical and wasteful, but no doubt fun.

I don't even have one and it's "old".

It's just not for me. "Fully auto" is overrated IMO.

It would be cool to shoot someone elses once, but after that I would be over it. That's just me though. I have tons of fun slaying gophers.

This. I have no desire to own a full auto gun, I prefer to make all my shots count. I have a friend who owns multiple FA capable guns and lots of silenced ones as well. I am tempted to get a silencer in the near future as my funds allow.

There was a full-auto .22LR back in the 70s. It was the American 180 and was built on the Thompson pattern. Our local LE office had a couple and I put a few drums-full through them over a few months. Also had friends in a big city department's SWAT teams and got to shoot their full-auto Uzis.

It was the kind of thing, to me, that's fun a couple of times but the novelty soon wore off - especially when I am buying the ammo. To each his own weirdness, but I'll pass. Too many other things to spend the cost of the SlideFire on - like more magazines and ammo, or even another 15-22 for my grandson.

That's the way I feel about it too. Our local gun shop allowed people to shoot a full auto tripod mounted machine gun, for a fee. That's fun. And I'd put a mag or three through someone else's SlideFire or other auto available. Even if I HAD a full auto, I might SHOW it to people, just to show off. But just every day shooting, like I like to do, would not be with an auto.

I can't see buying a slide fire for my 15-22. I didn't really care to fire the M-16 full auto many years ago.

My rifle sees dual duty - for targets and small game and I rarely fill the 25 round magazines.
