Yep....that's exactly what it was.... Federal 550 bulk...went by the walmart today, and they didn't have any more on the shelf, and the clerk that was there yesterday was no where to be found. The clerk available today said that they sold out this morning....I asked about the pallet in the back, and he went back to look, and said he did not see any more of the 550 boxes...Asked about the price, and he said, "yeah, we had a computer mess-up, and the price was wrong....should have been $18.96..." I guess you just get lucky sometimes.....

Anybody in South Florida, the WalMart on Flamingo and Griffin Rd. has a bunch of it in stock, I think I saw somewhere around 30 boxes on Saturday. The Winchester 555 pack sucked btw, constant FTF.

Dunn's Sporting Goods currently has the Federal 745 22LR 36gr Copper Plated on sale for $169.99/ case with Free Shipping. Comes out to 3.2 cents per round. Not a bad price if cash flow permits.

Last time I bought a few cases was April and it was $2/box cheaper. That must have been a special. But even at this price I haven't found anything online, or local, cheaper when you factor in no sales tax and free shipping.
Snake...if I'm reading the link correctly, isn't Kittery's price $4/box more?

It was 20.99 per brick & no charge for shipping ( it says you save 4.00 a box ) I might have to check Walmart next time I am in there.

Right. $20.99 after the $4 discount. You save the sales tax vs WalMart so in that regard it's less expensive. But Dunn's is $16.99 per box. Downside is you have to buy ten boxes.

Seriously, I generally by .22s by the case from my LGS - standard $169.99/case.

I live about 15 miles from the main Federal Cartridge plant in Anoka, MN. I know many people who work there.
Just yesterday, I spoke with a person who's been there for many years. This person has been working 72 hrs a week all summer (even though they have a OT cap at 60 hrs!!!!) They have so many orders and just can't keep up with demand.
Evidently the backlog is pretty much across tbe board.
Rifle ammo is particularily behind due to a huge (multiple hundreds of millions of rounds) for a special custom round for an Arabian royal family's security forces....

I don't think the average shooter has any idea how big government (any government) orders. The news media gets bent out of shape over reports when some US agency buys 10 or 15 million rounds.

I just ordered a 2,100 round metal case/can of Federal Champion from Cabela's. Shipped w/tax it comes to .05 cents per round. Hopefully it shoots well through the 15-22. I'ver read mostly good about it online.
Cabela's: Federal Champion .22 LR Ammunition with Ammo Can

Cabela's
Just ordered 14 boxes of 375 round bulk packs from Cabela's online yesterday. Free shipping to my local store here in Phoenix and I can pick it up there. $12.99 per box, about .03 per round. Even with sales tax, right at $200.00. Best deal I have seen in a while. I shoot tactical .22 matches at my club and I can't resist stocking up when I find ammo this cheap. Good luck on the ammo hunt.

Been looking for some 550 federal bulk ammo, and finally found 2 at a not-so-local walmart. Paid them a visit and scooped them up, along with 100 rounds .45ACP federal ammo, just in case my LGR doesn't have my preferred ammo. Tomorrow should be fun.

WALMART DOES NOT SUPPORT SHOOTERS!!!! i know its a strange idea that a place where most of us will buy products a few times a week and get a lissens to hunt at wouldnt support us but its just fact. every year more walmarts discontinue their gun departments. they cut back more and more on their ammo as well. hell i have been to SUPER WALLY's who dont have a single gun for sale in them yet have 50 diffrent airsoft ***. this has started to invade their ammo as well. i went to a San Antionio wallmart and couldnt find 9mm, 44 mag, 410, and a few other popular ammo types. just face it walmart is in the pocket of the administration and will keep drinking the coolaid. i mean after all their colors were originally BLUE! (and as far as ammo shortage in .22 lr, i can still buy it at the hardware store for 500 rounds at 18 dollars FED)

Are you guys seeing excessive wax and/or duds with your federal bulk packs? I bought some 2625 rounds of the 525 blue box over the winter and they had the aforementioned problems. This has made hesitant in buying federal.

Federal Classic Bulk 525 is the ONLY ammo I have had /absolutely/ no problems with. I've had FTE and FTF and even OOB with CCI Tactical and Blazers (not many, admittedly), but not with Federal.

Never had any such problem in over 8k of the stuff through my 15-22. Probably another 20k through other .22s over the past four or five years. Lots of urban myths about Federals and wax that have no basis in fact get posted on the Internet.
If there's a wax buildup of some kind on the bullets or cases, it's most likely caused by improper storage somewhere along the line. The coat is so thin you have to scrape the bullet itself with a fingernail to actually see any wax under normal circumstances.

I was actually thinking that they may have been shipped or stored in an area of excessive heat. Up until this time I never had problems with federals and swore by them. I was just shocked that I could visibly see the wax on many rounds.

That's the most likely scenario, but I have never run across the problem.

I ordered some Federal from CTD last night and received an email this morning stating: We have been notified by our drop ship warehouse that the following item was unable to ship on your order due to depletion of inventory. If payment was made by personal check, money order, or cashiers check, a refund check will follow by mail. If payment was made by credit/debit card, your card will be refunded.
That sux because I had ordered the Federals in addition to some other brands to combine the shipping costs. The shipping for the Federals was only a couple of dollars extra.
