I recently bought a slide file stock (SSAR-15 SBS) for my M&P 15-22. The gun failed to rapid fire. The factory trigger weight is ca. 5.5 pounds. Would installing a lighter trigger cause the slide fire stock to work, and if so, is this a difficult thing to do, or does a 22 lack sufficient recoil to make the system effective? I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

SlideFire Help!!

I have the same issue. I bought the new Slidefire SSAR-15 SBS stock. I can't get it to even come close to cycling.
I installed the JP spring kit (supposed to be 3.5 lb) and polished all the contact surfaces. This helped a little with the smoothness of the trigger, but there is still way too much creep.
I contacted SlideFire and they said in order to get it to work for them, they had to install the CMC trigger (again supposed to be 3.5 lb pull).
Many people say it takes a certain "Touch" to get the SF to work, but I've spent hours and never even got a double fire.
I've lightened the upper, by removing the reddot and even the Iron sights.
The key must be in the trigger and the stock trigger I have has a very long pull.
I've tried to find the CMC and the RRA triggers, but everyone is backordered. That only leaves the expensive (over $200)triggers like Timney, AR Gold, etc.

The question is.."Is it worth another $200 bucks to get a drop in trigger?". Afterall the gun was only $400 and the SF was $350.
I don't really want to put it on may AR-15 due to the cost of ammo, but it may end up there.

If anyone has any tricks that they've used to get a SF to work on the M&P 15-22, PLEASE respond to this post.

from what i remember, the jp spring kit says it gives a 3.5 lb ONLY with their trigger kit, not with the stock one. so you may have lightened the pull but still not enough.

You can be fast as a Slide-Fire or Bump-fire, buy just training you sub-conscious to pull the trigger, while your conscious just aims the sights.
It takes a bit of training --- about 10,000 rounds. So what better way to achieve that level then by shooting a semi-auto 22?

People at the range think I shoot full-auto, when I fire my semi-autos. You have to belong to a range that allows you to fire as fast as you can pull the trigger; as long as you can hit the backstop.

Ok...... ill give ya my EXPERT opinion..LOL

i have one, originaly just for my 15-22

Added a JP Trigger, $113, worked ok, but not good enouph...
So I bit the Bullet and got the timney Trigger also be sure and do the KNS pins or the trigger pins will fall out (scotch Tape does work)

with the JP trigger it did take some Technique for sure... but with the Timney... is is FULL MAG DUMPS at will.. and my 50rd drums dump in seconds...
think my trigger is right around 3.8lbs ish
19mags and 2- 50rd drums.....YA BABY

Now, remmember, WE dont buy a Slide fire Stock becouse its CHEAP.... we BUY it for the Unadulterated RETARDATION factor and EAR to EAR GRIN it gives us......
NO it isnt cost effective in the LEAST... but the ENJOYMENT factor is PRICELESS....

oh... but there is More........ yes its True:D

then you take the grip.... make your own Block for the slidefire.. and put THAT on your M&P 15 Sport:eek:

wanna see some FIRE Power..... IT is AWESOME!!! i had to start reloading .223 to offset my LEAD addiction...

These are a couple of my Videos....no other mods besides the timney trigger
1st try of 50rd mag Dump

This is the M&P 15 Sport..... SLIDE FIRE BABY

+1 on the KNS pins. Joeboboutfitters.com is where I got mine too.

same here, KNS pins, timney 3lb trigger, slidefire. I removed the iron sights, and added a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot with a medium riser mount.

make sure you lube the inside of the slidefire, i used a silicone spray lubricant.

it is also in the touch, I was using a folding vertical grip up front in its folded (horizontal) position, i would then let the grip slowly slide thru my fingers during recoil as i was gently pulling forward. Didn't take too long before I was consistently dumping 50 round drums.

This is by far the most fun gun I own, and it's a helluva lot cheaper and less hassle than a $10k machine gun.

I do not have a M&P 15-22, yet I have a couple of dedicated 22 uppers --- one using a Ciener bolt, and a Tactical Solutions bolt. I used 3 match grade Rock River notched hammers, and 1 CMG match hammer. Each of the hammers broke in half while using the Ciener bolt after firing about 3,000 rounds for each hammer.

I put in a mil-spec hammer, with an extra power hammer spring for my two dedicated uppers. Except for the hard trigger pull --- I've experienced no hammer breakages, with plenty of rounds downrange.

Rock River, replaced my hammers with no cost --- but I just gave-up using them because of so many hammer breakages, and Cheaper Than Dirt warnings about using notched match grade hammers in the 22 dedicated uppers it was selling.

Training camps...advise that you bring your AR's fitted with mil-spec hammers, no matter what the caliber; if not --- I'd bring along some extra hammers and springs, along with tools for the job.

Those kind of .22 conversion kits should use round top hammers.

those vids look like a blast stav! too bad i dont live anywhere that i can do that lol.

Update -
I got a timney trigger, lubricated the slidefire stock and my M&P 15-22 rocks!

Now I just need bigger magazines or a faster way to load..

The perils of full rock n'roll

There was a reason they took away the full auto option on the M-16 and made it semi or 3-round burst: we couldn't hit squat with the selector switch on full rock n'roll! We filled the hills of I-Corps with 5.56 ball and mostly just mowed the grass. The 15-22 is dead-nuts fast in semi; on "Impossible Shot" (Outdoor Channel), an old guy (like me) fires three rounds from a 15-22 at a steel 75-yards away and gets all three off before the sound of the bullets hitting the target get back to him! That is beaucoup fast with any firearm. I know full-auto is fun (been there, done that), but hitting anything significant downrange is pure luck. But y'all have fun with it and be careful!

Agree 100%

Now with my 15-22 i can actually HIT my target with Full mag Dumps:D.... and Bursts are easy.... heck no real KICK with the 15-22

NOW with my M&P Sport....LOL...... Ummm FULL dumps are FREAKING Fun.... but I would for sure get taken over by a HEARD of Gophers......... But a Human Size .... at 25yds... I'd put plenty in him....LOL

Now if my Life was on the Line....... SINGLE shot is the way ta Go...... then those STINKING Gophers wouldnt stand a CHANCE>>>>>:p:D

Still LOVE my Slide fire...

just Loaded 575 .22 and 180 .223 for tomorrow AM........

Those GOPHER better be ready:D

I put the JP yellow springs in and added the 50 cent set screw to remove slack in trigger, lubed hammer notches with moly grease and sprayed Rem lube on bolt assembly. Mine works great with friends slidefire. No problem and no expensive trigger.. I don't get lubing the slidefire. Mine works fine without that mess. I find skipping cans with bursts is great fun.

I just did this as well. First I tried JP Yellow springs and polished the sear. Using Federal ammo, I got some double-taps, but that's it. CCI Mini-mag and adjusting my technique (holding the stock tight and keeping a strong shoulder), I could get bursts of 3-4 shots.

Next I got a set screw to reduce the trigger slack, then lubed the buffer tube where I could see wear. I tried again with Federal and got 3-4 shot bursts. Then I switched to MiniMag and got a full magazine dump. I got this to work about 90% of the time.

Here's 100 shots at 25 feet my first time.

I might still go for a trigger upgrade though...

the trigger makes a WORLD of difference

I sent 500rds down range today... all Full mag dumps and 50rd drums...

So much Fun......

we get the Slide fire for the fun... not Cost effectiveness of it:D

get a Timney Trigger.... youll be glad ya did

I see a lot of people have also tried the JP Enterprises Competition Trigger EZ kit, which includes a hammer for about $247. Has anyone tried the one without the hammer for about $114?
JP Enterprises Competition Trigger AR-15 Small Pin .154 3 lb Single

That was my 1st Trigger i got... worked well but its adjustable and i couldnt get it to work Perfect.... so got the Timney and it was WAY Better...

May drop the JR in my M&P Sport.....

dont skimp like I did at 1st.. get the Timney and be done and Happy

I'm completely in agreeance with Stav. I was going to go with jp's and polishing and yada yada, but here's where it came down to for me. I work on a rotational schedule, 2 weeks on/2off, got the slidefire for the "FULL UNADULTERATED RETARDATION" (takin that one from ya Stav lol) and have the sport and 15-22 every time I tried with no avail to achieve a mag dump on the 22, I slapped it on the sport. Now this goes against the very reason I got the 15-22 in the first place. I was going through 1000 rds in two weeks pretty easily in the .223 w/slidefire. Let's do the math here, 385 bucks/1k of .223 at my lgs, every other two weeks lets just say monthly to make it easier. That adds up REALLY quick considering an initial investment of somewhere around 200 bucks, than 1k of .22 is a little over 40 bucks for cci tactical. Hmm... As for technique, it definitely comes into play unless you have the Timney. I'm noticing too that it's the people that have hunted all their life that have the hardest time learning to use it. The easiest way I've taught people is this- hold your trigger hand on the grip and pull the stock up tight. All this while not touching the gun with their other hand. Once they have it up and able to sight down it, have them put their thumb behind the mag and gently push forward til it fires the first time. This gives an idea of how lightly to push. Than it's practice while holding the foregrip and remembering how easily to push forward. I've noticed a lot of the problem is they get excited after the second shot and let up on pressure or wasn't expecting it and panics and pushes forward too hard as its natural reaction when scared to grab on to something. I practiced with only my thumb when I had a factory trigger and was able to get 7 rd bursts. But if you grab the Timney, just hang on and have fun!! Oh p.s. don't try the thumb technique with the .223, actually hang on to that puppy! This is the fastest I've been able to achieve. You can adjust speed once you get the hang of it by varying pressure.
