Default Fore grip

I would like to install a foregrip and would like to know what you guys prefer. Regular vertical foregrip like the Mako or Folding type or Magpul AVFG. Why? Pros & Cons pls. Tnx

I went with the Magpul AVFG after trying them both. I found that with a "standard" vertical foregrip, I was pulling everything low and left. The AVFG relieves just enough of the pressure on the wrist and puts my left hand in the perfect firing position.

That's just my personal experience. If there is any way you can possibly try both I would do it. What works for me or the dozens of other people who reply to this may not work for you.

The AFG is very good at what it does.

There is a very strong movement towards the thumb over grip, which doesn't work too well with the AFG unless you have GIANT hands. In this case a short VFG works very well as a hand stop.

I've run an AFG and a VFG as a hand stop. I've found on the shorter carbine length 7" rails the AFG works best. The rail real estate just doesn't exist to get lights, grips and hands all in the same place.

On the 10" rail of the 15/22 I find the VFG works best.

Your results may vary.

AFG2
Thumb over

This allows for very quick follow up shots as the thumb controls muzzle rise. I'm double tap happy.

I also like handstops.

Never been a fan of VFG's. I only use them as handstops on friends rifles, so I go with something that isn't so cumbersome to me.

I'm confused. Muzzle rise on a .22?

My son prefers a vfg on his 15-22 cause it helps him manipulate the gun easier i.e. switching from right handed to left handed. I prefer a handstop on my 5.56 guns with a thumb over grip because it provides a reference point as to where on the rail I grip. Thumb over grip helps me drive the muzzle of the gun when engaging multiple tgts. I also use the handstop as a stop when running a course of fire with a vtac barrier or shooting standing supported. As for muzzle rise on a 5.56 non-select fire gun, it can be easily controlled with your selection of muzzle brake and gas system.

I like my 15-22 to feel the same as my other EBR's.
