I only have one pile because unloaded mags are just like unloaded guns, a paper weight!

I only have 4 mags, but they are stored in the mag pockets of my case, whether all loaded or not. The 5th pocket holds my collapsible bipod.

I have a bunch of shoe boxes full of them and then there are a few in drawers here and there. Some turn up in gun bags. I think that a couple are in the trunk of my car.

Empty mags get filled when I get home. Never know when you need to go shooting at short notice :-) .

Each firearm has a shelf in the safe. The Pistols all rest on a layer of ~10 loaded mags. The rifle mags are stacked by type.

Unfortunately as I've gotten older I've gotten more "organized"...

I have an old Homak gun box that I've converted into an ammo storage box. In the top compartment I put in some cheap plastic modular storage sleeves that I picked up in the office supplies department at Wally World. I think they were like $5 for a package of 8 or 10 in various sizes.

Each sleeve is marked with the manufacturer and capacity of the magazines stored in it. Yea it's overkill but otherwise I'd likely end up tossing the Homak cabinet since it's no longer useful to me. So I guess, in a sense, I'm recycling...

I cut the tops off of empty 8# powder jugs. Single stack mags in AA #2, double stack mags in AA #5, match mags go in the empty Crown Royal bag in the gun boxes [his or hers].

Empty or full my mags are stored in mil surplus mag pouches. I happened to find a deal at my local Fleet Farm where they had Bulgarian web sets for $11. A couple of those and I have more than enough pouches for mags and loose ammo

I have 68 magazines, all loaded all the time.

10/22 and 77/22 mags fit into a tray on a shelf in my vault.
Pistol and Mini-14 mags are held to the inside of the vault door by magnets.
M&P 15-22 mags are on two of the vault shelves, on edge.

Dangit, that reminds me, I've got to go load the mags I emptied yesterday. Good thing I like loading mags too.

I like the magnet idea. I may steal that for my pistol mags. My rifle mags are all polymer.

Smile mag storage

Walmart sells a two sided fishing takle box that is great except for large mags.

I have a triple mag-pouch with a molle back that attaches to the inside of my soft rifle case (Blackhawk Sportster). That's where the three 25-rd mags go that I currently have. One 10-rd mag is in the rifle during storage in the case, and one 10-rd mag I keep loaded in the center console of my truck.

Newbie question. Does it negatively effect the magazine to be left loaded? All the tension left in the magazine spring. Same question with the trigger?

from what ive read, springs only go bad from repeated use and even then it takes forever. keeping them unloaded or loaded should not have a negative effect on them.

No and No. I have magazines that have not been unloaded (except for shooting) for over 20 years.

Yup, compression cycles...

However, sometimes the feed lips on pistol mags will bend out and cause problems when left fully loaded. This happened to one of my old XD45 mags.

Seriously, I've never understood the obsession that some people have for keeping hundreds of loaded mags on hand. If my home gets invaded by some gang, I'm pretty sure that the gun in my hand will be enough. If the FBI kicks in my door, 500 loaded mags won't do me any good.

That depends on how many agents there are.

Just kidding.

There is a not such a bad idea to have some mags loaded, just in case.

But like I said, all my mags are loaded so I can grab gear and go SHOOT. When I want to go SHOOTING I don't want to spend hours then loading mags before I can shoot.

Loading mags is an admin task to be done when packing gear away or cleaning.

Absolutely. Yesterday I took my son, son-in-law and two grandsons shooting. We put over 1,100 rounds through 24 magazines - and then came home and reloaded all of them so they would be ready for next week's range session.

Until someone makes a worthwhile speed loader ( His name escapes me at the moment, Tacticool i think) I load most if not all my magazines right after I get home from shooting, I figure it this way, still have burnt and unburnt powder on hands and skin, handling lead, got to clean weapons used, get the dirty stuff( lead ) done and out the way, handle cleaning solvents, wash my hands and ready for the next time
