Best Ammo Deals
I have seen a lot of posts on this forum regarding .22 ammo availability and price. I would like to start a thread where we can all share the best prices and availability on an ongoing basis. When one of us finds a great deal, especially online, or even locally, let's post it here and help each other out. As we all love shooting the 15-22, and other .22's, we all certainly need to keep them fed and this thread can help us do that.
I would like to keep this thread as much about price and availability as possible and try to steer clear of personal likes and dislikes of any particular brands or stores. We all know that not all rifles like the same diet, and we probably know our, and our rifles, favorite ammo so there should be little need for any discussion of preferences. Plus by focusing on price and availability we can keep this thread clean and informative.
So I'll start it off. I recently found Cabelas selling 2100 rounds of Federal bulk, in an ammo can, for $85 shipped to your local store free. You do have to go pick it up in person. This is only a great deal if you have a use for the can, which does increase the per round cost slightly.

I have not found anything cheaper online or in a store than WalMart Federal Bulk 550 runs a little under $20 for 550 rounds.

Mills Fleet Farm or Dunhams if you have them locally run good sales. Like $1.69 for 50 rounds of Blazer at Dunhams and $16.99 for 525 rounds of Federal at Mills Fleet Farm. Both Stores seem to have sales on 22 ammo quite often.

In my area (S. MN) Fleet Farm has recently and often been offering Federal Champion bulk packs of 525 rounds for $16.99 and no rebates to contend with to get the price!
My other local retailer (Gander Mountain) has fairly rare sales from their regular price of $22.99 for Federal Champion bulk packs of 525 rounds marked down to $19.99 and it involves sending in a rebate form to get the difference.
However, Gander Mountain does allow price matching so, whenever I have earned a $20 reward "Voucher" on my Gander card, I like to go there and get it for $16.99 by making them match fleet farm (and no rebate involved!) thereby getting the ammo "free" with enough spare change to pay the sales tax and then some!
(I love "working the system" wherever I can!!)

Dunham's has been running the Blazer Bulk 525 brick for $16.00 (2 for $32) every other week on the Sunday & Monday specials. Best price I have seen recently around here or online.

Here is my list of prices only. I'd have to go back through my receipts for where I got them. I keep the list only as a reference for prices I had paid recently, and recently being maybe as much as 24 months. These don't include shipping because some prices included shipping. As you will see I have too many choices and am working hard to narrow it down to 2 and no more than 3 brands/types. As mentioned some guns like one brand vs another, thats where the 2 or 3 comes into play. I do have stingers and mini-mags(bought them years ago when they were cheap) but I think they are a little pricey to shoot regularly for shooting paper, golf balls and tennis balls.
Fed. Champion Bulk 525 $17.99
Fed. Champion 510 box of 50 $1.66
Fed Bulk 375 $10.39
Blazer box of 50 $1.77
Blazer Bulk 525 $16.00
American Eagle box of 50 $1.67
Wolf Match Target box of 50 $2.50

My mistake, tricky paperwork. Got it from Discount Ammo Feb. this year for $9.99 per box. Got 10 boxes with a $50 discount that brought it to $49.90. Then $49.90/10 = $4.99. I'll correct my price list.

I must start looking at ammo deals because my inventory has dropped below 8,000 rounds. Hmm, what to buy? Maybe some more Blazers from Palmetto State Armory.

Not too long ago I picked up an ammo can containing 16 boxes of CCI Mini-mag's from Wally World for $98. That worked out to approximately $6.13 per box of Mini-mag's...

One Wal-Mart in my area was pretty much out of .22 bricks. The other one was selling CCI 40-grain copper-plated bulk for $98 a box (1,700 cartridges).

Just a bit of information ...
$169/case (5,250 rounds) is Federal's standard "retail" price for Champions.
The fact that one can get it mail-order with free shipping is probably the best deal on it going. A couple of times a year my LGS buys three or four million rounds of it as part of a bulk sale.

After visiting 6 stores can safely say SWFL is all out of Federal or Blazer. Ordered 8 boxes of the Blazer 525 from Palmetto State the other day. One of the few online vendors with Blazer in stock. With shipping still comes out to about $20 a box but hey it's better than not having anything to shoot

any one tested the "CCI Tactical" ammo?
its not the cheapest but i think it is reasonable if the ammo works as well as they say it does for the 15-22
(335rds for ~$25 i think)

Haven't tested it yet, but I got 3,750 rounds of it coming soon. Ordered it online, $16 per box (375 rds) x 10. Had to pay shipping, but still comes out to under $.05 per rd.

My rifle hates the tacticals, never feeds them right. That being said, others have great success with them. Each rifle is different

Sportsman's Wherehouse occasionally runs on-line 20% off all purchases with free delivery to one of their stores near you.
I usually get the CCI .22lr mini-mags, regularly $7.50, for $6.00 (per 100).

I've bought CCI Tactical in 375 round boxes for as low as $15, but would be willing to trade the 2 boxes I have left for Federal Classic. While many here have had great results with CCI Tactial, and it SHOULD be the best, having been designed specifically FOR the 15-22, I have more mis-feeds with it than anything else. My Federal Classics have been 100% reliable, but not so the Tacticals. Just my gun, probably, but I'm sticking with what works (for me).

its not the first time ive heard this (or similar problems)
and there are NO modifications to your rifle?
maybe the newer models have a slightly redisigned extractor? and cci's ammo was deisgned for one specific model?
im not sure, i think your right. the ammo was deisgned for the 15-22 so it should work flawlessly(or close to it)
does anyone know anything about the extractor/newer model theory?

No operational ones, just sights and bipod and quad-rail covers.

Mine is only about 6 months old.

I think you'll find that many here use CCI Tactical without a problem. But there are some, like me, who have more problems with it than other ammos. So I'm no bad-mouthing the ammo; I'm just not buying it.

There's at least three or four threads already on the subject. The SEARCH function is your friend.
