And all you guys with the super-duper add-ons and so forth expect the mag to be $29.95, right?

Exactly, you get what you pay for and if this product is going to be as good as I think it is, its going to cost. I'm sure if doomsday wanted to create something that is already available to us he could but "I think" he wants to make something better in quality and functionality than what is currently being offered.

As far as the current crop of over-25-round magazines go, I agree with you completely. That said, I have absolutely no problems with S&W's factory magazines. I have 11 25-rounders and 5 10-round (short). My youngest grandson has four of each, though he doesn't know it yet and the same deal for my oldest grandson - both are getting 15-22s for Christmas!
I was just getting ready to order 10 more 25s when this thread started. I am waiting to see what happens. If it turns out to be a working 50-round double-stack, I'll probably buy a fist full. I'd MUCH rather load magazines in the comfort of my own home that at the range.
Have a great weekend!

The design I have does not need a speed loader. It will set the bar on loading any .22lr Magazine out there. I will show you when the time is right. Please be patient

One thing at a time. I will tackle other areas of the rifle but right now I'm focused on getting this out to market.

I'm working on getting a reasonable price for the Mags. The injection molds are a pain in the rear on pricing right now. Still waiting on 3 quotes. Hopefully I hear something this week. Now I see why people go overseas to have their molds made.

Haha, I was being facetious, but if you do have ideas for down the road, that's really cool! I think a lot of people would be interested in that. I still get inquiries about the dust cover I made, even though I stopped making them a while back.

Hold fast, I don't think you'll have trouble finding people here who are willing to pay a little extra for something made in the US.

A guy I work with told me about the dust cover you made. He was telling me to design one. He told me you put a magnet on the inside of the upper to hold the latch closed. Does it cause any problems when shooting and the empty shells getting stuck because of the magnet?

None what so ever. It's funny you mention that because when I was developing it I did worry about that. Also if the magnet would affect the workings of the bolt at all, but no, it doesn't harm anything or get in the way. Placement of the magnet is key however. If it's mounted wrong it will cause problems with firing the rifle with it closed. That and spring tension. If those aren't right you'll end up with a stove pipe and a jam.
You should make one.

Lets not forget this gem folks!
This is one of the first .22 mag pistols out there. I had one almost 20 years ago ($230.00). Why did I let it go?
Grendle P30 .22 automag 30 round. Ugly but sweet!

Actually I misread what you wrote. The magnet wasn't on the inside of the upper, it was on the inside of the dust cover door. I think if you could make one, mass produce it and sell it at a low price, you'd have a lot of people interested. But yeah, definitely one thing at a time. If you end up designing one, don't hesitate to ask me any questions about my experience.

brett248vista's review of the prototype
M&P 15-22 Ejection Port Dust Cover by PainterlyShotGroup review.
My thread on the development of the Kydex version
Kydex Dust Cover
A thread by Brett. In this one you can see the new magnet mount in the last picture of his original post. Although, in the picture he has it mounted backwards. The extra plastic was meant to cover the end of the spring.
Two of my Favorite Things! :)
I while ago I had an accident with the kydex cover on my rifle. While closing the upper and lower, the door got sandwiched in between the two receivers and ended up bending the hinge plate. I have since modified an actual AR dust cover to fit the 15-22, using my magnet mount. I think it looks better anyway.

I like the look of it. It wouldnt take that long to design one but how many folks would be interested in buying one is the question.

I bought one shortly after I got my 15-22, but never installed it. I sold it to another forum member (Basic) three or four months ago. I don't know if he ever installed it. I decided it was more cosmetic than functional because it didn't really seal over the ejection port. Besides, I don't shoot in the rain and mud.
It was well made, though.

I do like the looks of it. I dont think anyone shoots their M&P15-22 in the mud or rain but I could be wrong.

It is a cosmetic add on. If it were necessary I'd like to think S&W would have put one on at the factory. It is a look people like and it's one of those things that people will buy if the price is right. I think finding a cheap way to manufacture them and then selling them for cheap, I'm talking $15 and under, you'd probably find a lot of people interested. If you can manage to find a way to have the cover really seal the ejection port then even better. But like you said, most people won't be dragging their 15-22's through the mud and rain.
For me, making them by hand, got to be too time consuming and expensive to be worth it for both me and the end user. Such is life.
Didn't mean to hijack your thread either, lol.

DT,
Might I suggest you contact XtremeBen1 about his loader. I'd like to know if his loader (w/ 50rd hopper) would work on your mag.

Low Profile 5 or 10-round magazine needed
I need a shortened magazine for bench shooting.
Ordered two 10-rounders from S&W and they are just as long as the standards.
Any suggestions?

There was someone on here who cut up the 25 rounders into shorter mags for 10 round mags.
I forget who.

These are the 10 round short magazines you want from Smith & Wesson:
Product: M&P15-.22 10 RD Magazine
SKU is 404950000.
Didn't see the short ones at Cheaper than Dirt, but Midway, 44Mag, and S&W all seem to have them in stock.

You ordered the wrong ones. The short ones are a separate item. Several places have them, including 44mag.com.
44MAG.com - Smith & Wesson - S&W .22lr 10rd Short M&P15-22 Magazine Smith and Wesson

My point exactly. Many gun store employees are no more conversant with their products than the teenagers at Radio Shack and with anything but a cell phone.

Here is one of the Ranger plate designs. I still need to give it a better appearance. What do you guys/gals think? Good the way it is or needs improvement?

I will add some more fillets to strengthen the design and more features for appearance. Thanks for your input.

It looks easy to break. If fillets are legs then yes it looks like it needs thicker legs.

I was planning on having it made of rubber instead of polymer which is why I went with the current design. I can make it thicker if I decide to go with polymer.

Makes sense. You decide on colors for the mag bodies yet? Not that it really matters, I'd take 'em regardless of color.
Hopefully you've got the springs, screws, etc. sourced. If you need help with that I'm sure there are a bunch of eager beavers here willing to do all kinds of research.
Best of luck, enjoy Thanksgiving - I will. Thankful my house didn't go up in the forest fire we're having.

While you've got a good deal on mold making design one that will hold a 50 round box of ammo. You really need to own the company that does the mold making, then the sky would be the limit on the accessories you could make for these things.

Yea. Not throwing stones, cause I really like your work, but what about the 'print-screen' button? Are you using some strange dedicated workstation or OS without screen capture capabilities? Don't work for the DoD, do you?

If your plan is to mold them from some sort of plastic, I would suggest incorporating some sort of cool looking logo into the design.
I also agree that web thicknesses and radii should be a little larger for strength and abuse. Also, radius the outside corners a bit more. That's my two cents. Take it or leave it.

They look like you're on the right track. If you do go thicker, maybe just on one side. Having them in rubber would be real nice as well.
Looks good. Chad

Colors are OD, FDE, and Black. I have sourced the springs and any other part I need for the mags. Hope all is Well and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
