I sold my 1st 15-22 that had the threaded barrel; I was not happy with the groupings it produced; bought a non threaded barrel version; so far I am pleased with the groups it has produced. Only have a couple hundred rounds down range so far. Need to put it on the bench with some sand bags and see what it will do.

Anyone have any input on threaded versus non threaded barrels.

I only have experience with my threaded barrel version. It shoots fine, as good as my 10/22 takedown rifle.

It most probably was a loose barrel nut more than the threaded/non threaded issue.

There maybe a case made for the non threaded having a target crown, if it does. But the one's I have seen don't. The threading and the flash hider might have not been concentric to the bore, but I doubt it.

Also, these aren't precision rifles.

Also, some just like some ammunition more than others..

The only difference between a threaded and a non-threaded barrel is one has threads and the other doesn't.

ZERO impact on accuracy!

I doubt it had anything to do with the threaded barrel, but some barrels of the same type rifle will be more or less accurate than others, and this is true in all rifles. Luck of the draw if you will.

Another thing I have noticed, my AK shoots tighter groups without the slant brake. What I make of it is that since the pressure is directed downward and unevenly as the gases escape, it affects the flight of the bullet. It's the same concept as having a big ding in your crown, but at a larger magnitude IYKWIM. But I have tested this repeatedly and get the same results. Not like an AK is known for accuracy anyway, but still....

IDK how the flash hider affects the accuracy of the 15-22 and that small of a round, if it does at all. It would be a good test shooting it with and without from the bench just for fun.

Myself,I think the biggest factor would be the ammo and what it likes to eat.

I just got a 15/22 with an unthreaded barrel. I think that I want to thread the barrel for installation of a flash hider and or suppressor. Is there anything special that I need to know as far as getting the barrel threaded for installation of accessories, or is the unthreaded barrel supposed to be left that way. And, the use of a barrel "shroud"...What exactly does that mean? I think that I know but am not sure and would like to be sure on this one. Thanks in advance.

You can pretty much thread any barrel you want. A barrel shroud is nothing more then a cosmetic piece that goes over the barrel and is threaded by the muzzle end of the shroud instead of at the other end as you would thread a silencer. It give you that silencer/canned/thicker barrel look.

Some say it also helps to allow you to handle the gun by the barrel since it won't get hot to the touch but don't really see you needing to grab the gun by the barrel much.

They're a few options out there for you to take a look at. You can send it off (or get it done local) to get threads cut or you can buy an adapter that fits over the end of the barrel which has threads on it. Here's just some old links to a few threads...
