Curious how folks store their rifles when not in use. I went with Santa Cruz gun locks for my AR & my 10-15. Until I get the electric hooked up & locate a switch in another room, I am using the handcuff key for entry. Not the fastest method & maybe not the most secure, but my main concern is to keep the guns out of the hands of kiddies. For fast reaction I keep my 9mm Sig loaded in a locked gun safe bolted to bedside table.

Now you see them...

Now you don't.

A Zanotti Armor ZAIII. Expensive, but huge. Called to order another today, but wait time is now almost 1 year!

What kind and where did you get the racks for your weapons ? Price would be nice too.

Reminded me of the "racks" we had in some of our equipment when I was in the Army. Easy grab and go.

I use the Santa Cruz SC-917-B and bought them from Strobes USA for $175. You can get cheaper models but I plan on running the wiring up into the attic & then put a switch on the wall in the bedroom, so that as I pass by, I can throw the switch & the locks will be open.

What happens if you have a power failure?

Never mind, I just re-read about the handcuff keys.

If I had any long guns, they would be in the vault with the pistols, if I had any pistols.

I assume you are making fun of my wording but since I am from Mississippi... if you are it went over my head.

Large safes or vaults were not an option for me. I you want to know why, ask the wife. :)

I took it as saying depending on who is watching and reading he doesn't have any guns. wink wink.

Like saying I took mine all out duck hunting and lost them when the boat flipped over. lol

Great storage Jim! I love that set up. I am going to start building my new house this spring and wanted to work something in near the bedroom but wasn't sure what. That just might be it. The remainder of guns will be in a gun safe.

No, I wasn't making fun of you. I just wasn't admitting to owning anything - long or short. With rare exceptions I don't advertise what I do or do not have on a public forum. :)

I knew you were from Mississippi, I could tell from the accent. :D

I think they know a whole lot more about us than what guns we own. :)

Those locks are designed for police cars & can open with 12 volt power. They are normally used with a push button & a timer, so that the lock resets if not opened. My plan is to put a rechargeable battery or step down transformer in the attic, then put a normal light switch on the wall in the bedroom. That way, turning on the switch will unlock both guns for fast access. In a stressful situation, such as a home break in, would probably be faster than attempting to open the handgun safe.

I have a full house natural gas generator for power outages & soon will transition to solar... I hope. But even then, I'm thinking a rechargeable battery might be my best solution to power it.

Ain't that funny from a guy with over 3000 posts on a forum for just one little gun? :D

Not much of a challenge to beat up on a dumb redneck from Mississippi. :)

My wife didn't like my gun safe either. When she asked me if robbers broke in and put a gun to her head and demanded I open the safe....would I open it? I said 'no way, they would just kill us with my own guns....and god know who else'.

Needless to say we are no longer married....and I still have my gun safe. :D

No kids here, so all of my firearms are loaded and "hidden" in strategic places throughout the house. If someone wants to get in when I am not home, they would have to get through the four big dogs first. :)

When people are over, the rifles go into their cases and get stashed behind the living room couches (which are against walls). One pistol will be on me, and the others locked in my bedroom.

It's easy to remember to "treat all guns as if they are loaded" when they always are. :)

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. I'm starting on my new Man Cave and those would work perfect for what I'm working on.

In the safe; 3 grand kids running around the house; they have to be secured.

That is if I had something to put in a safe; I would buy a Liberty Safe.

That's pretty cool. What hold them in? The front sight block?

And with all the gear on the side I'd toss that closet to see if there was anything in it. Just saying....
